What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

The following came last evening...

Esterbrook 431-M Desk Pen Well with the early style Dip-less pens. It came with several nibs. Unique in that the nibs are replaced in a manner similar to a dip pen but on top of a typical feed. This "assembly" is then inserted back into the section.

The whole enchilada is NOT MIB but I have the box, instructions, just shy of a dozen nibs and a weekend to play. There WILL be a review in the Review forum and a write-up in the Estie forum for sure...

hi folks,

I just can't resist even though I know gloating isn't a god thing, today I got 23 pens ranging from a Parker 100, med nib in gunmetal and brushed gold fill trim through 4 1960's UK Duofold Maximas and a bunch of other Parkers to a red lucky curve Duofold Junior & 1 lapis Duo special of e-bay for a real Ol' Griz deal, the only downside is that most of them had already been serviced and restored so I don't get to play, and by the way there was a NOS Monte Rosa thrown in as well.

Enough gloating, cheers, J :D ohn

A Mont Blanc Noir et Noir with retractable nib !! I LOVE it -- cleaned it up and filled it with PR Tanzanite -- SWEET !!

(I must confess that when I first took the cap off, I was shocked that it had no nib !! I was sure I'd broken it, and I kept looking in the cap for the crushed nib -- then the words "retractable nib" came to mind and I found it !! )

I received in the mail a Black & Gold Schaeffer Touchdown and a Black & Gold Eversharp Skyline that I purchased from Julikko. I also picked up a converter for my Safari and a bottle of PR Sherwood Forest ink. Hmmmm, FP goodness!

I bought a Sheaffer Prelude on sale. It's the brushed chrome model with a fine nib. I've been taking note in my Apica note book and the nib is really smooth, a nice and solid looking pen. It has this nice flighter look I really love.

The pen was on my radar, I'm really happy I got it.

Out of character for me lately: a Conway Stewart 27 Cracked Ice (the true original colors) with a very sweet medium stub nib. A sweet pen from Vakpens. Thanks Bob

Conway Stewart make some beautiful pens imo (cracked ice! WOW!)

Today I received my FIRST EVER vintage pen (still awaiting my purchases from ebay) as a graduation present. It's a Conway Stewart 759 in Marbled blue/black veins. I think it's gorgeous. Writes wonderfully!

EDIT: Though most probably know what the pen looks like, here's a photo. This has made me realise how hard it is to take a decent photo of a pen...

Not quite today, but just a few days ago I received my first ever fountain pen (which I am still trying to get working, as discussed in another thread).

It's a Parker Sonnet. I'm not sure about the exact model. It is black in colour. The nib is silver covered, but is some sort of coating (platinum?) over gold. It has 18K-750 written on it. I have no idea if the nib in fine, medium or what. It's filled with black Parker Quink. To me, the design seems clean & simple. Not too over the top, but classy looking.

I also got a matching ball point, which is a rather nice pen in itself, for someone who is used to using cheap, disposable roller-balls.

I'm amazed at how much online activity there is about fountain pens and can see myself really getting into this, except for the fact that collecting pens costs money.

I don;t know what it cost (it was a gift) but I get the impression it's not particularly cheap. If I fall in love with using it as much as I expect to, I think I'll have to look at getting at least one or two more fountain pens - cheaper ones for the office and to carry around with me.

I never knew Parker put any metal over its 18K nibs on there Sonnet. You should check if the pen isnt a fake (many Sonnet's are copies and not the real deal).

No no don't worry about that, there are silver coloured gold nibs (the plating would usually be rhodium). There are a few fake Sonnets floating around, but this is no reason to suspect that this one is a fake.

Didn't actuallly GET a pen today, but I won one on eBay. A chrome Waterman, $5.99 from worldofpensandmore. Thursday (day before yesterday) I received two (2) Sonnets I won on eBay from them. I have yet to ink them, as I have not had the time they deserve to devote to them. I hope to ink them tomorrow after church. Should get the Waterman by Thursday, if their shipping of the Sonnets in typical.

pelikan 200 dark green

I am just mad about this colour

The nib is F and for me much to thin :( - thinking of replacing it with OM nib)

I filled it with pelikan 4001 black blue ink, that I like it very much.

Actually, I got them at the Northern Pen Show last weekend but just tried them yesterday.

I got a leather stationery travelling desk that came with two dip pens (a type of writing instrument I've never used before).

Well, I tried them both yesterday and what fun!

Joyous Day!! The waiting is over, my Binderized nibs arrived in the mail today and I have installed them into my favorite Pelikans and have been scribbling all evening! The crisp italic 1.1mm is fantastic! I'll take them both to work tomorrow to really give them the test. (Hope I get any work done!) The ItaliFine is going to be really fun to write with!

Thanks Richard!!!!

Got to quit and go to bed! My hand is cramping up really bad from all the scribbling! Fie on this Carpal Tunnel!
