What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

I really wasn't supposed to do it, but I got a Montegrappa Extra in Turtle Brown today. Gorgeous looking pen, and the nib has a bit more flex, and is smoother than my Miya.

I have one of those too and it is one of my favorites. The way the light plays on the celluloid and the different colours come to the fore it reminds me of the Blake poem, "Tiger tiger burning bright in the forests of the night, what immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry...." and the rest is pretty good too! The whole pen just lights up in your hand as you turn it in the light. Enjoy!

I had a rare Sumgai experience today. Parker 51 aero set with gold filled caps for $24. The case has seen better days but the pen and pencil seem to be in great shape. Yesterday I picked up a never inked Snorkel for $35.00. It's been a good week.

Envious. Where did you happen to pick up such a great deal, if you don't mind my asking?

My wife was at the local auction house today and picked up four fp's for me (amongst a lot of junk!) A Parker 21 with a broken barrel, a Sheaffer cartridge pen with a semi-hooded nib - I don't know the model on this one; an Estie J in copper with a 2558 nib - the pen is in great shape with a pliable sac; and the best, a Parker Vacumatic - azure standard size w/1946 date code and fine nib. The pen is in very good to excellent condition and should restore very nicely. All this for $11.00 - not a bad day at the auction.

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

This is the kind of thing that always happens to "someone else" in my book; and today that someone is obviously you! Congratulations. The only time my wife bought me a pen was when she was away. She rang me from the airport when she was coming home to tell me she was standing in a Pen Shp and would I like either a Dunhill Sidecar or a Montblanc. I asked the number of the Montblanc and she said "You know the big one you're always saying you must get." I said OK if its a 149 go for it.... she brought home a 146 :headsmack: - which was the biggest they stock IN THE SHOP! Not her fault and I didn't want to spoil a beautiful thought and gesture but she saw the disappointment on my face.. I haven't even inked the 146 except to dip the nib! Listen if your wife is at an auction and sees a .... noo its not going to happen.... Congratulations on a good hunt at auction to you and your wife. K

My favorite little antique shop in Chicago. That's all I'm saying! I've been picking up good deals on pens at this place for about 10 years.

Just received a Nettuno Nautilus with my first ever fat B nib this afternoon :P

Serial no. 093/500

This pen is actually a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Absolutely dwarfs my Stipula Novecento Cromo. Not a bad thing actually :puddle:

Came all the way from Italy from Giardino Italiano

Loaded it up with Quink Blue-Black. Writes rather dry for a B nib. Could it be the ink? And if it is, any other suggestions?

Never mind.... this Wednesday Manjit is going to have a look at it, and I'll ask him to adjust the flow to suit me :)

I just received a NOS Pilot Murex from Russ Stutler. A beautiful, simple pen if ever there was one. Now I have to wait for my anniversary to open the box and ink it (I have a loving wife who bought it for me). Can't wait.

A mid '20s Sheaffer Flat-top in the jade green color with an EF nib. Snagged it off EBay. Needs a little work like replacing the sac and a little barrel/nib/cap polishing but I love the pen. I had one and my wife loves it, too. Now we'll each have one.

Cheers,

Well, they don't compare with some of the beauties posted in this thread, but I got my first two fountain pens in the past week (and have another on the way).

The first one I bought was a bit of a whim since I have only owned one FP in the past . . . it was selected to fit into a 'under $100' budget. After reading up on this site for several days, I ended up getting a Shaeffer Legacy in the brushed copper finish with an F nib. It came in the mail late last week, and I absolutely loved it! It's such a joy to set down that beautiful, wet, line as I write. I attached a pic of this one as I'm not sure how common this pen is in this finish.

Well, I loved my 'compromise' pen so much I realized that it would be worth it to spend a little more and get the the one that I really wanted. So . . . over the weekend I ordered a Pelikan M600 with the green striped barrel and an M nib. This was always the pen I pictured when I thought of 'high-end fountain pen'. I found one for a good price . . . hopefully it will show up on my doorstep early this week. Since this is such a beatiful pen, my wife graciously offered to buy this for me as an anniversary present.

I realized that the bug had bit me hard. I dug into my personal stash of cash, and made one final (?) purchase. I figured I needed a sturdy, dependable workhorse for day-to-day writing at work, so I got the third pen that had caught my eye while doing my initial research. As it turns out, I live very close to Oscar Braun pens, who was having a super-special on Lamy 2000 pens. I stopped by today at lunch and picked up a EF nib, and it is simply awesome. This baby writes like a dream . . . smoother than the F Sheaffer.

Oh . . . I also had to ink them, so I've got Noodler's Nile Ebony eternal for the Lamy 2000, Swisher Pens (i.e., Noodler's) Dark Purple for the Sheaffer, and a bottle of Swisher Pens Emerald Green waiting for my Peli.

I never thought these things would hook me like they have, but somehow they just connect with me.

I just wish my writing was better!

Pakmanpony, happy birthday and congratulations on a wonderful pen!

Today in the mail I received a Columbus Scriba, red, that is a beauty to look at. Filled it with Monaco Red. The width of the line is perfect for me (medium on the fine side), and I love the comfortable, light weight of the pen. Nib could use some smoothing, so it'll be taking a vacation soon at Mr. Binder's.

Happy Birthday Perry! That is a great looking pen.

Today I received a a very good condition vintage blue "herringbone" pattern Conway Stewart 77 from Dr Rose at Writetime. The original medium Duro 58 nib just glides.

If anyone interested in vintage pens has not experienced the delight of dealing with Dr Barry Rose and sampling his delightful pens they should do themselves a big favour and do so with haste.

After a bit of a flat patch (ie possibly great ebay find lost in the mail etc) my dealing with Dr Rose has rekindled my enthusiasm. A true gentleman.

Hello, ArPharazon

Join the club. Oops! Pardon me -- it's been confirmed -- you've already joined and have become a certified, card-carrying fountain pen-o-holic . . . destined to acquire many fine writing instruments while summarily parting with untold boatloads of cash.

It's highly likely your handwriting will improve, once you've spent the necessary/appropriate time utilizing your growing collection of fountain pens. Based squarely upon said collection, I can tell you with a fair degree of certainty, that the precise moment your handwriting will be most noticeably improved shall occur in the not-too-distant future, specifically, on the very day your bank account reflects a zero balance. :roflmho:
