Today I got 2 beautiful Omas-es-es-es-es?? in the post; one a Black Paragon with Gold trim; its especially beautiful with nib revealed. and the second an Omas 360 "Wild" marbled effect. Both have had nibs reground by John Mottishaw and are an absolute delight to play with!!! (Maturity always comes through at moments like this, doesn't it?)!!!!!

My first Esterbrook, wondering what the fuss was all about, one of the usual LJ models in gray with a 9128 nib. Was a bit tattier than I expected, several tools marks around the section and a slightly mismatched cap. Still fills and empties OK and now have thenib section soaking as it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years.

Also waiting for an Olive green one with 2556 nib to come from the USA which looks more promising as it has been restored and cleaned, seller even threw in an extra nib when he realised he was selling to a fellow Greek (although likely the only Greek thing about both of us is our name), which I thought was a nice gesture.

Am I a sumgai? Today I received my first Maki-e pen and now I know what all the fuss is about.

It is a NOS Platinum 3776 Kodaichiyu, circa 1990, with a fine nib. Andreas Lambrou calls it one of, "An important range of six Maki-e designs...offered in 1990-1992..." (He spells the model name Kodaichyu. The photo is in FPOW, p.381)

They are still available in Japan at a list price of about $550, street about $400 - 450. The liquidator on e-Bay thoughtfully opened the price at $69.99, which turned out to be the ultimate sale price. I suppose I owe the seller a debt of gratitude for the uninfomative written description that failed to attract any additional bidders and some clear photos that allowed me to ID the pen.

Yesssss!

Got a Blue Esterbrook Model J, in working condition, and looking almost like new. It came with a 9668 nib installed, plus an extra 1551 nib. For free, the seller included a half bottle of Diamine Sapphire Blue. I'm a happy guy!

Regards,

Ray

Hello, girlieg33k

In the past two weeks you've managed to accrue more fountain pens faster than anyone I know. And what incredibly generous friends you have. Lucky? Yes. Blessed? Definitely.

Color me green with envy.

Have a great weekend.

Duke Esteem fine from iSellpens. Nice, heavy (brass) pen in black lacquer that writes remarkably well for a $10 pen. It even manages a little shading. Came with two cartridges and the eyedropper filler. Now if the clip was just a tad looser...

None. But I hit an all time low tonight. I fixed up a Sheafer Nononsence pen from a calligraphy set that my brother got from his friend. It is the worst fountain pen that I've ever handled!!

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

I received three pens in the post yesterday:

Namiki/Pilot Sesenta LE with a wonderful and perfect fine nib from Richard & Barbara Binder

Bexley Simplicity also from The Binders

(Another) Conklin Mark Twain Signature -- but this time in the tortoise color

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

Thanks, Clive! Yes, I consider myself blessed with good friends. I just added three more new pens (see my previous post) but I intend to stop buying for awhile -- except I do have my eye on one on eBay.....whistling....oh and penseller.com has the Stipula Bellini! Wee! ;)

I intend to have a great weekend -- and hope you have the same.

I bought this last week from Berliner Pen, but just received it in the mail today - a nice Parker Duofold True Blue Demi Streamline Depression Era Vintage Fountain Pen, ca. 1932.

Take a look!

I received a Stipula Etruria Volterra in the mail. A beautiful pen. And it writes beautifully too; very smooth. This is my fifth Stipula fountain pen. I've had nothing but great experiences with them. A true pleasure to write with.

Headed into town this morning to buy my wife her birthday present - a Montblanc Marlene Dietrich.

Such a nice looking pen :)

But the wife surprised me by suggesting that I try the Alexander von Humboldt that I've longed after for a while, she then shocked me by buying it for me also *grin*.

Gosh, it clearly is love!!!! ...You buying her a pen, ...she buying you a pen... I'm going all misty eyed!... I wonder.... will the golden age of the fountain pen ever return so that a parent will advise their child, " ... and don't take a fountain pen as a gift from a stranger, even if it is a Mont Blanc that you have always wanted!!"

Just being silly.. Congratulations it was clearly a good day!!! K

Congratulations, both on the Marlene Dietrich for your wife, and much more so on the Alexander von Humboldt! I've been lusting after that one myself for a while.

I really wasn't supposed to do it, but I got a Montegrappa Extra in Turtle Brown today. Gorgeous looking pen, and the nib has a bit more flex, and is smoother than my Miya.
