Today this Sheaffer pen and pencil set arrived at the mailbox. The pen is a very lightly used gray pearl Craftsman or Balance 350 (I'm trying to determine exactly which it is). It has a fine No. 3 nib and writes very nicely. It came in the original gift box, probably from the late '30s.

You know, I was actually looking for the thread "What pen did your Mother give you today", but it seems that there isn't one...

Bexley Americana, Sierra Silver, stub nib. Oooh. Aaah.

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

Didn't get any pens today, but yesterday I received two replacement nibs for my Pilot Vanishing Point. One's a straight-ahead medium nib and the other is a Binder .8mm stub italic. :cloud9:

My Waterman Carene Deluxe in Prussian Blue with a medium nib finally arrived last night. I've been playing with it, and it's a great pen so far.

A sweet and tiny Astura (Italian) button-filler. I have filled it with Diamine Umber, which matches the celluloid very well.

One peculiarity: After I filled the pen and put the blind cap back on, the blind cap somehow depressed the button and I wound up wearing Umber...

Looking inside the blind cap I could see that it didn't seem to have been hollowed out enough on one side. I hunted around my office, found a set of Sandvik diamond-needle files, and soon I had the cap fitting correctly - with the added bonus of having the scent of camphor in the air from when I filed away at the cellulose nitrate!

A silver Esterbrook J with a 9556 nib that I bought off of Rick Krantz in the Marketplace.

This is my pen. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My pen is my best friend. It is my life as a writer. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my pen is useless. Without my pen, I am useless.

Most recent is a blue Pilot Decimo with a fine nib from Stan. It's the VP, only better (lighter aluminum body and slimmer clip)!

I just bought a Conway Stewart 388 listed as a "vintage pen" on EBay, beautiful green marble if I can tell anything from the picture. My first CS! Even though I don't officially have it yet, does that count?

Cheers,

Two Pilot 78G from Samovar in the MarketPlace. One Red and one Teal. Fast, personal service. The Teal got Noodlers Pecan. Had been in another pen, but the nib was toooo wide, so transfered to the Medium 78, which is more like many Fine. I've very happy.

These pens have traveled more of the world than I have... sigh

This gorgeous blue (carbonesque/kasuri) VP. I wish I could keep it, but I bought it as a gift!

...breathless...

Arrived at my mailbox today, One Waterman Edson Diamond Black with an F nib. SN 001234, which I take to be a fortuitous number.

I'm trembling with excitement and anticipation. It took a while to save up, even at Pam Braun's prices. I wouldn't have bought it, no matter how beautiful it is, except that I got a chance to write with one a few months ago at Flax Art's pen fair. I haven't inked this one yet... I'm going to have to start bringing ink with me when I leave the house! I'm tempted to pop a cartridge in it though. Two boxes of cartridges, one box of black and one box of blue, came in the pen case. For the price of this pen, not skimping on the ink is a good thing. But I can't imagine that too many people who are so passionate about pens as to pay some portion of the $1000 list price would really be cartridge users. I don't even think there's anything wrong with cartridges, but I don't generally prefer them and most people I've spoken with who are this into pens don't use cartridges.

Nothing wrong with it, and I appreciate that they packaged the cartridges. I was just a little surprised.

This is my last major pen purchase for a while. I have a particular research project I'm working on, so I'll be buying some lower-end pens for that. I'll also continue trying to find flexier nibs. So it's not like I'm abandoning getting new pens, but my 'acquisition' phase is over for the time being.

Wheeee!

(I guess one cartridge can't hurt) :)

I hope you are happy with it. I hold you partially responsible for the order I placed with Pam for a Medium point Blue one. JD

c1925 Waterman BHR Ideal 52. It will be interesting to get it into shape and see how it all works out. E-Bay purchase - and at $38 - I may have paid too much for it. But ....
