What Pen Did You Get Today?

I received a Sheaffer Imperial 440 fountain pen in Blue colour. This pen comes from an actual user who has used it for more than 20 years. The pen is in very good shape and writes very smoothly. The inlaid nib is amazing and yet shines when shown to light even after like 40 years...

Got a Noodler's piston filler, non flex. Figured I should try one out. It writes a bit wet, sorta scratchy, smells funny (I hope it won't start smelling like vomit, I know this can happen, it's a chemical reaction I've seen with other tools, like the plastic handle of a screw driver I had).

I like the size and look of it, the nib isn't my thing though. Looking to see what vintage nibs I can get for it.

I sure hope the new flex nibs coming on the Ahab are nicer to use than this one.

Visconti Divina Desert Springs 1131/1618, EF. It's gorgeous! I need to clean it up a bit: it was dipped at least (and may have been filled) with blue-black, and I want to fill it with J. Herbin Lie de thé. I'll report back once I've got it writing.

I'm gonna have to upgrade my opinion of this pen now. Took it apart, cleaned it, now it writes much, much better, smoother and no starting problems anymore.

A Waterman W5 with nice stub nib. Bought on ebay in unrestored condition. Don't know what age this pen is, perhaps someone can supply some details. I do have some newer model Waterman pens, but I am looking forward to having this pen sack replaced as it writes well when dipped.

I bought a Pilot vanishing Point Stealth. Unknown what nib size it is, as the pen was the last stealth in stock and I didn't catch what he said. I think its a medium. honestly, with how well it writes, it could be a broad or a EF, and I wouldn't care. :P

Current Rotation:

Pilot Vanishing Point Gun Metal Fine

Stipula Passaporto Medium

Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Midi Medium

Got in the mood for the San Francisco pen show by ordering the Schrade tactical pen from Amazon then went to the show and snagged a great Rosetta Magellan with a Pendleton Brown .7mm nib from the man himself just before closing.

My brother-in-law asked me last night about a couple of pens he found at an estate sale. I took a look at them, told him a little about them, and then he surprised me by putting them in my shirt pocket.

I've cleaned them both up and put a new sac in the Moore L-94. The Sheaffer ring-top/flat-top will have one, too, as soon as I get a silicone sac to put in it.

Waterman Expert Italic Fine Point from Susan Wirth at the San Francisco Pen Show.

What a great day! Susan gave a 45 minute talk, followed by a two hour calligraphy class by Deb Basel. I visited quite a few tables, bought a leather pen case, talked to some people about repairs, then spent over an hour at Susan's tables. Susan "analyzed" my handwriting, had me try out a variety of pens, and recommended the Expert.

I got a 10 pack of 3 different colors Hero 266 pens. Considering my son has taken a liking to fountain pens, the 10 packs are a good idea for me!

Foo! So many pens and inks, so little money....

Not technically today but......

I received a Visconti Van Gogh Maxi with a 14K medium nib on Friday. I had a minor issue with it but after inking it is a smooth and wet medium that writes nicely.

Today I picked up a retro 1951 brand Tornado in black with chrome trim. it fits my hand well has a smooth nib but the ink in it is atrocious, At least with most of the papers I use. Any suggestions that may help?

Oh yes it has a Medium Schmidt(?) nib. My bifocals aren't strong enough and My magnifier is missing.

I got a Noodler's flex, an eye dropper model. It does not flex as much as I would have thought. It's my first flex pen though and I did not know what to expect. I can't really get any line variation with this, but on the positive side it writes really well, the line is really fine, it writes smoothly and most of all its really reliable. So I think I like it.

It will be interesting to see how the new flex pens compare, got one coming from Goulet.

A nice copper Esterbrook Transitional with a NOS 2314F nib. Great combination, writes and looks really nice.

Pilot Custom 823 came yesterday and it's every bit as great as everyone has commented on FPN!

Glad to hear you're enjoying yours. Using and loving mine "lots."
