I got a Aurora Ipsilon B10-F today from a online retailer and I was astonished by the poor quality when I opened the shipping box. Outer paper box crack at one edge, inner box belt detached. I know these are trivial defects. But when I opened the cap, I found the nid and the ink feeder are greatly mismatched, I suppose the nib should be center on the ink feeder. Am I right? I have contacted the retailer immediately for a return and they accepted it.

I also order two aurora 88 chrome cap pens from the same retailer which are supposed to get me tomorrow and I am quite worried about the result of tomorrow. Of course the Ipsilon Satin is much lower than the 88 series. But as I can understand, the price of this Ipsilon is quite close to my Lamy 2000 which is of decent quality.

Anyway, I am waiting for my two 88 and will check the result. Hopefully they should be better.

I am a green horn in the fountain pen fan family with almost no knowledge. Anyone of you big shots can tell me is this Aurora Ipsilon nib mismatching normal or rare, or I just expected too much for such a low price pen?

Thank you very much!

The Aquamarine Safari, with italic nib. Filled it with Lamy turquoise. Looks perfect together.

Aquamarine Safari with steel EF nib. Filled it and a red Al-Star with Noodlers Socrates, because I'm taking notes of successive (three HOUR) meetings and want each meeting's notes in a different color of ink.

Since my previous post disappeared in the server crash...the day before the server crash I found this lovely Parker Vacumatic in the wild for 30 bucks US. It's a wartime 1945 model with the plastic button, blue diamond and a nice "chevron" band. It may be my first Vacumatic repair..

Not today, but yesterday, a hand turned pine penholder with a hand turned ebony grip. I bought the pen holder in Birmingham (UK) and it came fitted with my choice of a John Heath Aviator pen. All for the princely sum of £5.50.

I also bought a gross of Esterbrook No 14 Bank pens and a bottle of Caran d'Ache sunset at a serious bargain price (£6.75 would you believe! The empty bottle's worth more than that!).

All together these should keep my fingers inky for a few years to come.

A Chinese pen arrived yesterday. It is a Huashilai but I do not know the model number. This pen is big but it is not your typical heavy chinese pen. It is much lighter than the other Hushalai I have.

Worther Profil grey, medium nib. :puddle:

Rotring Initial, blue, fine nib. (too bad I discovered Rotrings when they were already out of production)

Rotring Skynn, yellow, XS nib. (I am a scientist by nature and this is an experiment...)

(Technically, it came in the mail yesterday...) Just got my very first Tucky! I've been working this for a couple months, and finally found one that was meant to be mine: an excellent condition, green-striated vacuum-fill Sheaffer Tuckaway, with a superb nib. Either their "fine" was finer back then, or it is an XF, but it writes really well. Flushed and cleaned it without any problems, and was even able to fill it. I think I may still send it in for restoration, just so I know all the seals are new and good, but I really couldn't be happier.

a complete surprise! i went to lunch with my friend today, and he gave me his grandfather's French-made sterling grid Parker 75 cap-actuated BP. i'm truly humbled. i will use it ALL the time. he got me started with fountain pens, and we've gotten each other pens / ink quite a few times over the last two years. he's a great guy, a truly nice individual who is going through a rough time but remaining focused :)

in return, since his Parker "51" broke (i mean, really broken beyond repair), i am going to give him a Parker Vac Major :)

Antique store finds:

Esterbrook 444 lever fill desk pen set. My first Estie! I can see why people fall in love with these things. It's got an IB nib which has me swooning.

Sheaffer Balance Model 350 (AFAIK, this is the Junior, yes?) lever fill in marine green striated. Needs a new sac and some polish, but otherwise in good shape.

Wearever lever filler. Don't know anything about the model, but it was only $5.00 and had an intact sac, so how much of a bummer could it be? Nib might need replacing.

edited to fix model number on Sheaffer

A poor abused green Esterbrook J that someone broke the clip off and a strange Sheaffer cartridge pen with a nib like a Sheaffer Triumph- never seen anything like it before.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

Today the postman brought me some real bliss!

My pens from Pendleton Brown had arrived. One is an English Parker Duofold NS with a Pendleton Point CI, I purchased from Pendleton along with a Duofold NS Mechanical Pencil. The second pen is my Black English Parker 45 with a Rolled Gold cap, and it got serviced with a freshly ground Pendleton Point CI as well! Both pens have some nice "Medium Flex" to them, and both are great additions to my newly forming Italic collection.

Here is a writing sample and picture of them all!
