What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

Not received today, however I have today gone a bit mad and ordered a Parker 51 (from Fountain Pen Hospital) a Pelikan M1000 (from The Writing Desk) and MK 149 (from Fountain Pen Hospital). I am waiting for a vintage MB to be identified and fully restored (Battersea Pen Hospital) and waiting, with great anticipation, for the arrival of my Nakayam portable writer kuro-tamenuri )from nibs.com). What with a MB Thomas Mann for my 50th earlier in the year, that is me done for 2011 and my hard-earned Christmas bonus spent.

A pair of Parker 51's, navy grey, aeromatic, One fp with a broad nib, one pencil to match. Mark I, original condition, a soak, clean and ink up, writting wet and lovely. Made in England both of them, , pencil has second quarter 1951 date stamp, pen undated but has barrel vent at end not side so early to mid 1950?

Won on local auction site .... A surprisingly good price,

Amazing to write with, lovely weight, my first working 51 :) a lovely fat med/broad nib with nice flow, I am using diamine damson.

Not bad for my last week of leave.

Husband got Sheaffer imperial 440, and an early stirling sonnet - so I hope he will stop coveting my 75.

I got my Noodler's Flex in the mail yesterday, but since I work nights and have been up since yesterday evening, that's still sort of today for me.

I'm quite impressed. It's much nicer than I expected for the price, and a flex nib is always nice!

Got my Noodler's Flex from Maison Goulet today - nice little thing the size of a Reform 1745, bends under pressure like a politician in a pork-scented breeze. Generous when pressed, stingy when pressure is relieved; requires several applications of the blotter, even with a quickish ink. Inclined to scratchiness when spread, probably due to angular interslit faces of point biting into the paper, but I'm loth to show it the micromesh for fear of creating a baby's bottom and having the pols from miles around flocking to kiss it. Described in the accompanying leaflet as having a point made of an "alloy in the platinum group", which is somewhat disingenuous since alloys are not elements and the platinum group encompasses ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum (further technical data

) so we're not much the wiser.

All in all an endearing exhibition of character, a character that will take getting used to; but fun.

Oh, and Noodler's need to learn how to spell creeper.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

Today I received a gray Parker "51" Special in the mail, along with a letter, from a pen pal. We'd been discussing fountain pens, but I didn't know he was going to send me one!

The pen seems to have hardly been used -- not many scuffs or signs of wear, and the sac is mostly clear. The nib tines were slightly out of alignment, and there was black debris, sort of like paint flakes, swirling around in the sac when I filled it with water. I couldn't get them to dissolve and finally had to disassemble the filler to clean them out.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say somebody bought this pen, gave it a fill of calligraphy ink and found that didn't really work, then gave up and stored it away. Now I've got it writing very nicely with Violet Vote. :bunny01:

I must send my friend something nice in return.

Such a good day! I just received in the mail an Esterbrook J (gray) and Estie LJ (red) and an Estie Transitional (blue).

Still waiting to receive my two Waterman Phileas' and a "vintage Engliah-made Platignum" with an italic nib (I have no idea about this pen, but I went for it anyway)... I'll keep you posted.

Now, I'm gonna go flush out my new pens and ink them up to play. :clap1:

A day before it was anticipated to arrive, my Visconti HS arrived. It's already been inked and I've begun playing...just a wonderful pen and I'm SOOOOOO psyched. I'm sure there are others who have grail pens that are far more dear (as do I, btw), but this is the first really dear FP. Until now, the most expensive FP I've owned is my Visconti Van Gough with a 14k nib I got from a member here... I'm SOOOOO all teenage girl ATM!

Apologies, it was yesterday actually but I hadn't spotted this thread!

I went to my local pen shop almost convinced I'd buy a Parker Duofold but came out instead with a blue Montegrappa Espressione. I immediately fell for the colour, style, use of silver, detailing, pretty much everything really (and the fact it was reduced  ).

I've now got it inked with Diamine red dragon and I'm completely blown away :cloud9: . Just got to decide if I need the fine nib rather than the current very juicy medium.

This is my first handling, and purchase, of a Montegrappa and I'm very impressed albeit I admit I'm pretty new to this game.

Yesterday: A lovely little Midnight Blue Parker "51" Special Demi with a nice wet medium octanium nib. I tried it with vintage Skrip Blue/Black and it was too washed out, so I switched to a sample of Diamine Blue/Black and it is a winner!

A very, very good looking black Pelikan M1000, with a wonderfully worked M nib, to join my green and black M1000, courtesy of Makar. Great pen Makar. Thank you.
