What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

After 3 weeks of thinking about it and testing it several times (thanks to a VERY patient local pen store), I finally brought home today a Dupont Neptune. It is my first major pen purchase in many, many years and I find it fascinating because it handles very different than the lacquer Olympios I am used to- yet still, it writes like a dream.

I got my green Esterbrook LJ back. The ink sac shriveled up about a month ago and it has taken me a while to get the sac replaced. Although it has been in my possession, I haven't been able to use it until NOW!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay. :bunny01:

The Sheaffer Sentinel regular, not the TM model, ensemble set arrived today. It was bought used of course, and came with a box and instructions originally intended for a PFM snorkel apparently. Other than that, the FP and MP are in excellent condition and I can't wait to try them out, probably when I write the family Christmas letter.

my best friend gave me a Parker Lady, which looks like a demi version of an Aero P51, and a button-filler UK duofold. great early christmas presents from a really great friend, especially since i had to sell most of my fp's in november to afford grad school apps. :D

Just in today! Bexley has made some of the most attractive modern Limited Editions of any manufacturer. At least that is my biased viewpoint. Styled ala the Waterman 518, this Bexley Grand Finale LE from 1999, has an 18K filigree overlay on a gorgeous wood grain ebonite. I wasn't sure I'd ever add one of these to the collection but this one popped up on eBay at a price I could handle. Hope you enjoy seeing this rare pen (only 18 made).

A Pelikan 800 Blue O' Blue (F). This is a very good looking pen. Just the right amount of demonstrator-esque transparency.

Yesterday I got a (Fine) Scheaffer Viewpoint (Calligraphy) and converter. Using Pelikan 4001 Blue Black it works great with hardly any show through. Has a bit of a classy look and only $15 with the converter.

I received a Conklin Endura in patriot red with a F nib the other day. It's the perfect size for my hands, although it seem quite light. It writes well with the Noodler's Lexington Grey. Still getting used to it, but I think it's going to be one of my favorites. I'm thinking about a TWBSI next......or maybe a Parker or Monteverde of some kind...

Another eBay deal arrived today, my Stipula Etruria Granita with a titanium nib. (I think other buyers were scared off by reflected glare from the flash used to photograph it. The photos made it look like it had a big red blotch - perhaps some contagious skin condition - on the barrel!)

On opening the package what struck me, though, is the cracked ice celluloid (acetate). It looks identical to the rod stock of my Danitrio Tosca.

On Monday I will receive the Nakaya Bamboo Woods Tami Sukashi via UPS from Nibs.com and today I ordered the Sailor Susutake, which I saw for the first time at the Nib.com site last night and ordered directly from John today (due to a windfall infusion of money that I should be using to pay down my mortgage...) it's made of 150+ year old bamboo wood cured by the inground ovens of traditional thatched-roof Japanese houses.....I'll try to attach the photos. Talk about grail pens!!!

I've received my Twsbi now, in the first batch from the Writing Desk.

I'm really pleased with it, great pen and writes well out of the box- currently loaded with Noodlers Bad Blue Heron. I went for the Fine nib, it's about the same line width as my Medium Bamboo, so something between Eastern and Western Fine. It will certainly be a regular part of my rotation.

Now, should I succumb to temptation and order another........ :hmm1:

My Noodler's December 25 Flex nib pen came today, along with my first Preppy. Nothing too crazy, but the flex pen should be fun. I've only written a couple of lines with it, but it seems to be a nice smooth, wet writer.

Music, verily, is the mediator between intellectual and sensuous life, the one incorporeal entrance into the high world of knowledge which comprehends mankind but which mankind cannot comprehend. -Ludwig van Beethoven
