What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

Today I received two pens, custom turned, with a personal design inlaid in the wood. They are both in the Little Havana style and are cartridge fillers. They write very smoothly and the wood just feels really good in my hand.

Two identical packages of:

2 Reform P120 and 3 Dollar Student Pens

Why two? I accidentally had one sent to my old address and was convinced it was lost. When I asked smeden to confirm I had made this error, he offered me a discount on a reorder. I didn't think forwarding worked with USPS (that they had just delivered to the new occupants or something), so I took him up on the reorder. I got the second order at my work and finally got the first order today. I don't know why the forwarding appears to have taken like 2 and a half weeks, but I'm happy at the result.

P120 is fantastic if you ask me.

Student Pen is a lot like the piston fill version of the Hero 616 in my book. Nice pen to be sure, but it is cheap feeling and overall cheap enough for me to be reckless with. I'll risk one of these instead of a nicer pen to test ink mixes and the like.

Smeden is a great seller and an asset to our community. Buy from him if you like Dollar or Reform. :)

I just got a Lamy 2000 with a fine nib. What a great pen. Perfect size, perfect weight and writes really well. I loaded it with some Private Reserve Tanzanite and it writes like a medium. I need to try something dryer next.

Pelikan M215 Black Cap/ Blue Lined Barrel with full flex M400 EF nib from Richard Binder

The liberty of the press is indeed essential to the nature of a free state; but this consists in laying no previous restraints upon publications, and not in freedom from censure for criminal matter when published. Every freeman has an undoubted right to lay what sentiments he pleases before the public; to forbid this, is to destroy the freedom of the press; but if he publishes what is improper, mischievous or illegal, he must take the consequence of his own temerity. From Cultpens:

Orange Lamy nexx, broad nib

2x Purple Pelikano, medium nib (right hand), one of which I will eventually photo and offer for sale -- I figure somebody may want one, and I'm okay with having two if I turn out to be wrong

Tat-tung demonstrator, Parker "21", Waterman 32, and... oh yea, an odd Parker lever fill, in BHR with "Penman" on a steel clip, at least I think it's a parker, the nib states "Parker Lucky curve" and the number 2.

I just bought 3 of the Noodlers pens from Swishers. I bought a black one (for X Feather), blue (for legal lapis) and turquoise (for big bad heron). I like to color code my pens. I'll be anxious to see how they work. I've always loved Noodlers ink and I imagine Nathan will make sure each pen is fine tuned for maximum smoothness.

I picked up a Parker IM and a converter at the UW Bookstore, and promptly loaded it with J. Herbin Vert Olive.

Grabbed a Preppy too, did an eyedropper conversion with Waterman Havana.

I really like the Parker IM's nib. I don't have a lot of experience, but my primary pen thus far has been a Waterman Harmonie with a fine nib, so using a wider one is a real treat.

The Preppy isn't half bad either.
