What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

Today, a vintage Aurora 88P from the boards here. It's a model I've been wanting for a year or so, and it definitely doesn't disappoint.

Yesterday, in a mad fit, I went down to Fahrney's pens and bought the only modern pen I've wanted in a long time: A blue striated Pelikan M800 with an EF nib. A ridiculous expense that I'll never regret. Thing's beautiful and comfortable and perfectly balanced and writes like a dream. I definitely see more M8xx's in my future.

Does it count if I didn't buy but returned to working order some old pens? :)

In the last month, I gathered a bunch of retired pens from my folks and replaced parts (mainly old cracked sacks) and soaked away stubborn ink residue. Managed to get the following working again:

1. 80's Osmiroid with fine italic

2. 80's Pilot Birdie

3. A italic nibs & pen set from (the defunct?) Platignum

4. Two Chinese pens - fine nibbed Hero and Youth pens

A Shaeffer has yet to respond to my efforts :( No matter, the Platignum, Birdie & Hero have joined my humble stable of Faber Castell & Lamys :)

Burgandy P21 Super. Just inked it, after a thorough flushing, and it is a sweet F writer! Patiently waiting to see if there will be any leakage.

Received another Parker 45 which is well used but writes very well indeed. My plan was to swap out the nib unit with the one in my 45 Flighter, but I'm not so sure now, I kinda like the 'patina' on my new acquisition and may just leave well alone and use it as is.

It actually came yesterday, but it's still today's pen. It's an Olive Mottled Bexley Ranger. It's got fabulous color, lots of streaks and variations all the way from dead black to almost yellow. I swapped out the current-issue 18K fine Bexley nib and replaced it with a 14K Bexley medium. I've got the pen gassed up with Binder Burgundy, and I love it! This is one of Bexley's best designs ever.

Got a couple I'd mail ordered in the post today. A rather nice Cross ballpoint I'd ordered for my dad (who hates fountain pens): no idea what model it is, but it has a very skinny body, a black finish and was made as a promotional thing for some company called Hercules, and a green pearl Vacumatic. No idea how old that one is, but it has the blue diamond on the clip, and unlike the other three the seller on ebay was selling, it still seems to be in working order. The nib's more or less intact, and the pen has traces of the pale grey inky water an old fashioned pen can lay down if it hasn't been flushed out quite thoroughly enough.

My Rotring Esprit Telescopic came in the mail today. Looks great and it's a good writer with the mystery ink cartridge that came with it. A little toothy out of the box, but it responded well to a little tweaking and the paper bag treatment.
