What Pen Did You Get Today?

Left for work yesterday at 6PM and checked the mail box on the way out the door, I had a package. Took it with me to work and once there got it open and pulled out a really nice Pelikan 400NN. Loaded it up and tried it out. Nice!

Picked up an Esterbrook desk set with 9550 nib and clear taper at the flea market for $5. I'm pretty sure the base is not correct (it's a marble-like rectangle with a silver-colored "trumpet"), but the pen fits well. A quick run through the ultrasonic and a re-sac and it's as good as new!

I have a new pen but I didn't buy it. It was given to me by a new friend. It's the Taccia Ta-Ke in bamboo stripe. (He preferred the cobalt blue one. His wife already has the one in cotton candy pink.)

I got my Parker "51" pen and pencil today!!!! Its a dove grey Vacumatic with Lustraloy caps. The pen is missing the jewel, but I've already got that situated. The blind cap had a nasty hairline, BUT...the seller included another blind cap in perfect condition!! Man, this will be a great pen when I clean it all up! I'll post pics in a little while.

Just picked up a black Sheaffer 500 (or Dolphin) pen and I just ordered a Stainless Targa. I'm enjoying the low end of the Sheaffer line a lot!

Picked up my birthday package (delayed by customs) from the post office and it had a Blue Decimo and Bone White Prera in it! So happy! Can't wait to ink them. :D

Jon! :) Woohoo, a Pelikan M800! :) Which nib did you get?

Hi, Leigh! Fine nib. Butter smooth. I should be able to take nonstop pages of notes with this one.

I'm spending a few weeks in Paris, so I went pen shopping...

I bought a Sailor Sapporo in rhodium with an EF nib at Le Palais du Stylo on rue Auber http://www.palais-du-stylo.com

The service was great, a nice little store near the Opera and Galleries Lafayettes.

I wrote with the pen a good part of the afternoon and it's a real delight, what a smooth nib!

Won't actually find out if I got either of them until I get home from work today, but I have a Sheaffer Fineline lever fill coming from VT, and a Pilot clear with gold trim demonstrator coming from Thailand. Both will assuredly be tasty.

Can I use this thread to talk about a pen I just bought but haven't yet received? Or do I need to wait for the pen to actually show up before I post in this thread?

You can post it after you've ordered it. But you have to promise to post a photo after you receive the pen. ;)

Cool, 'cause I scored an Athens on the GB! :cloud9: :bunny01:

I'll definitely post pictures when I receive it, but I think this is one of those difficult to photograph pens.

I went to my parents' and could eventually lay my hands on my long-awaited Architectus Westminster.

I thought the grey resin would be rather stern - which I didn't mind - but it's actually sparkling with gold flecks.

What a beauty...

I did some nib work last night on 4 of my pens, including my new Pelikan 400NN, now it writes smoothly even on not so great paper.

post-7045-1183666903_thumb.jpg

It was pretty smooth when I got it, but there was some annoying roughness on upstrokes, all I used was a very hard, smooth Arkansas stone and very light pressure, in a few minutes I have a pen that writes smoothly on just about anything, newsprint, copier paper, or good writing paper.

I also worked on my Waterman Charleston that had a problem with starting a line, especially vertical ones. Now it is much better behaved and even smoother than it had been. In fact it felt so good I had to give it a real test, real silly that is, I wrote my signature on a very soft paper napkin, no tearing, no catching, no skipping. It took longer than the Pelikan, but only about 12 minutes or so of light work. On good bond paper it has just a touch of “bite” that lets you know it is touching the paper, to my mind it feels as close to perfect as I am likely to ever want, any smoother and it would skate wildly.

On paper napkin for Pete’s sake!

I also did a little bit of a touch-up on the Parker double-jewel Vacumatic I bought from David I, it also tended to dig in on up strokes and being a fine nib was more annoying. A couple of minutes and it also fits my style of writing nicely. Lastly I took a too sharp corner on my Pelikan 120 down just a touch, now it still bites a bit more than my other pens but does not dig into the paper. It is, after all, a fine italic and such nibs are supposed to have sharp corners.

So in a way I have 4 new pens I am writing with today.

Got the Sailor Sapporo EF and Pelikan M205 F.

The Sailor writes like a dream but the M205 F is too broad. It is going right back out for nib customization.

I also got my Orange Waterman Phileas that I bought from the Marketplace.

I doubled the size of my pen collection!

I think six is enough for sure.

Yipee!! I got my Sheaffer's Balance Junior size pen and pencil set today. The color is...Red Veined Grey!!!! Has to be one of my favorite colors. The pen is missing its lever...BUT I have a replacement I'm fixing to install! Tiny chip in the cap, but hey, its going to be a user in my collection so I really don't care. It's awesome! BTW, I usually don't deal much with old Sheaffer's, but this one is definitely the Junior size, but has no "Sheaffer's Jr." (or is it just Sheaffer Jr.?) on the clip. The trim is gold and is also a White Dot model. The nib is stamped with Lifetime and also a serial number. I have a camera here and will take photos of this set in a little bit.
