What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

My Lamys just arrived- a red Safari and a Vista, plus a spare converter. They've been flushed and will be going into rotation next.

Interestingly, it took PenGallery longer to process the order (1 week) than to ship it (overnight).

(the converter seems to be a good fit for the Hero 56A I have, so it'll be put back into rotation also)

After swearing off new pens I found a Pilot Plumix in blue at Target. Six dollars. Well, it IS a pretty color. ;)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Waiting on tenterhooks; just now sent off payment for a Dollar 717i from His Nibs. Nope, didn't get the transparent one, but it looks like a nice pen for the money and should hold more ink than a converter in a cartridge pen. Got a big bottle of PR Ebony Blue coming along with it...

Technically not today - they both arrived via USPS yesterday.

First is a re-get rather than a get: The Redhead's (that's the wife, Janet) vintage Pelikan 200, saved from emitting ink from the wrong end by the esteemed Mr. Binder.

Next, a Lamy 2000, medium nib, from Mark B via the green board (looks like new). Neither have been tried yet; too much going on today!

Something's in the mail from the kind Mr Swisher down south - more on that later.

D.C. in PA - Always bitin' off more than I can chew.

An Esterbrook dipless pen with chain for bank/post office use. An XT I believe. The 9668 nib looks like it's never seen a drop of ink.

I have just added to my collection of 4 pens (currently all Waterman pens). :)

Today, I have purchased three Lamys for myself (waiting for them to arrive now)..... Lamy Safari Matt Charcoal Black, Lamy Al-Star Silver & Lamy Safari Orange. I just couldn't decide which one to get, my bad.

Then one for each of my daughters. I got them a Lamy abc red each.

Plus, I got some Saguaro Wine (pink) ink for them....and converters all around.

Alright, now I need to stop...help me. I need to stop looking. ;)

Went to Paradise Pens, drooled over most of their inventory, and bought a Lamy Al-Star in green, medium nib. Of the eleven pens I've bought in the past two weeks, this is tied for the most expensive. My first (and the one the Al-Star ties) is a Jim Mauldin tulipwood hand-crafted original. It's the one that hooked me. The rest are:

  • Lamy Al-Star
  • Waterman Phileas (x2)
  • Pilot Plumix (x2)
  • Pilot Varsity (x3)
  • Haolilai #601F
  • Kaweko Sport

I've got converters for the Watermans, a converter for the Haolilai #601F (a nice pen for less than $20, in my limited experience), a bottle of Private Reserve Ebony Green, a bottle of Waterman Black, a set of Lamy Red carts (and a converter on order), a set of Private Reserve Spearmint carts, and a set of PR Velvet Black carts. I run the PR carts through the Sport, and the Mauldin. Oh, I've got some black Waterman carts (plus the assortment that came with a well-priced kit, which included a Phileas, a bottle of black, a converter, an assortment of carts, two blotter cards, a cleaning cloth, and an instruction book).

Haven't figured out what will go in the Pilot Plumixes other than the carts that come with them. I'd also like to find carts that will go in the Haolilai #601F, but I've not done much research yet (I'm happy running the bottled inks I have through it).

Not bad for two weeks. I've found a vintage FP store in my town, and paid a visit. I got a good book about FPs and the Ebony Green while there. He's got a really good trade-up policy - full credit on any prior used pen purchase price toward a pen of higher value. I just didn't know enough to commit to a pen purchase that day, but I know I'll go back. He had several hundred vintage pens, and a large assortment of Private Reserve and Noodler's inks.

Well, that probably more than answers the question, "What Pen Did You Get Today?".

I received two pens in the mail. One is a marble green Esterbrook, which looks nice and the nib looks good (2556), but the lever felt gritty and as I shook it it sounded like a maraca :( . I have some work ahead of me there. The other is a Reform 1745 from JJ, with nib tuning. It is now inked with a polar blue-black and passed the initial writing sample. It will write tonight's journal entry to begin the break in process. So far I like this pen.
