What Pen Did You Get Today?

Three. All Japanese. All used.

Two are 'short pens' from the 1970s:

  • Sailor Pocket (21kt fine nib)
  • Pilot (18kt fine nib)

And a more conventional-looking Sailor with a 14kt fine nib marked 'Gold from The Swiss Bank'!

Hey, I've worked out how to set up an avatar! Next week I'll move onto tying my own shoelaces...

A new Huashili has just arrived from Hong Kong. No idea what model it is, but it looks pretty good for a pen that cost less than a quid, and includes a converter.

Gone for the quantity today.

Bought 5 Pilot tank eyedropper pens today.

2 in red, two in green and one teal.

Now I have many pens with a real thin line to play with

Hi Bro, do you find these eyedropper version's ink don't flow so well? Or was it the Pelikan blue-black that I am using? It seems to write with different shades of the blue with every stroke of the pen?? My other pens writes well with the Pelikan Brilliant Black though....

Sheaffer Prelude

LAMY Safari Charcoal

Vintage Parker Vacuumatic Gold Pearl Celluloid

Hero 336 (Black, Burgundy, Green)

Pilot Tank (Teal eyedropper)

Pilot Superior (Teal Squeezer)

Pilot Birdie (White/Red)

Picked up a nice green Esterbrook with a 2048 (fine flex) nib at Saturday's Bay Area "Pen Posse" gathering. A little scratchy, but alot of fun.

I got a very colourful Stypen student pen today.

It might be the shading of the ink; its what you call the different shades with every stroke. Its a trait that's usually favoured. My Pelikano with a blue-black Pelikan cartridge exhibits shading too. Also, Pelikan blue-black tends to change colour when dry, even though its not a real iron-gall. I also fine Pelikan ink tends to be a bit on the dry side.

I received a gift from my father today. I know he had to order it, wait for it and then send it to me here in Iraq so I know he has kept it a secret for some time.

He sent me a Charles-Hubert Classic in Black with an iridium nib that looks like a Medium. I love the clip on it because it pivots on a internal hinge. I threw a cartridge of Parker black in it and so far so good, penned dad a thank you note on some G Lalo and it glided ever so smooth with no bleeding.

Thanks Dad!!

Mmmm! Jimmie! This is some serious gourmet s**t! Usually, me and Vince would be happy with some freeze-dried Taster's Choice right, but he springs this serious GOURMET s**t on us! What flavor is this?

I don't need you to tell me how freaking good my coffee is, okay? I'm the one who buys it. I know how good it is. When Bonnie goes shopping she buys S**T. I buy the gourmet expensive stuff because when I drink it I want to taste it.

Today I got a brand new Regal Elizabeth FP for US $17.99 + shipping on eBay($24.00 total)

The pen arrived in outstanding condition and writes a treat. Best pen I've purchased for the money, lays down a nice wet medium line on plain printer paper using Noodler's brown ink.

The pen has a nice heft to it and good balance while writing. It is a bit too heavy with the cap posted for my taste, but writes wonderfully without it.

Shown below with my humidor, they make quite a pair :-)

(excuse the crappy camera phone pics)

My Conway Stewart Consort set was waiting for me today when I got home;

Apologies for the poor photo.

The pencil is a bit of a non-event, but the FP is interesting enough to warrant my attention. Smooth, slightly dry and with a rather italic-like tip, which does produce some reasonable line variation.

Not daily writers by any measure, but interesting starting point for my CS collection.

Well, it isn't anything spectacular, but it is my first Hero pen. It is a black Hero Cayman with an F nib. Haven't inked it yet, but hope to in the next couple of days. Cost a whopping $0.99, including shipping, on Ebay. Only problem is that my wife likes it so much I have to get another one! Seems my wife is starting to enjoy FPs as much as I do! BTW, this is the Ebay photograph, and not mine. Don't know that I could do that well!

Not a full pen, but the final part that made it functional. This one is coming together in stages.

My last entry in this thread was back on March 23 about three Lamy Safraris that arrived. I posted a trade message seeking a fine nib in exchange for the medium that came in the charcoal pen I am keeping for myself. On Saturday, the fine nib arrived.

Today's mail brought a package from Lamy USA which included a converter for this pen. It is now filled with Private Reserve Tanzanite, and as expected, writing quite nicely!

According to UPS tracking data, the medium nib for my Aurora 88 is to be delivered this afternoon, so it is shaping up to be a good pen day.

I picked this up on Saturday, but my first-ever bottle of ink didn't arrive until today. So today was the first time I could ink it up and get going. The Pilot Varsity writes like a felt-tip compared to the line the 21 puts down.

Today I got a(n ab)used Lamy Al-Star that is completely covered in scratches, chewed up, beat up, with the clip half working A N D it came with half a converter of red ink still in the pen!*

On a happier note, I also got a pocket Moleskine cover from the FPN marketplace and it is GOOOOD--an unrelated transaction from the pen, mind you

*Of course, I lost said pen last week and had written it off as a goner, so imagine my surprise when it jumped out of a seldom-used pocket in my laptop bag this morning as I was about to teach! Who says April Fool's Day is all tricks and no treats?!

I got a Herbin Glass dip pen. The fancy deep blue with a twist in the body. It is actually pretty fun to write with.

Need money for pens, must make good notebooks. :)

Today I bought a new modern Sheaffer Legacy Heritage, a black lacquered one with silver trim. It was fitted with a medium 18K in-laid nib. I like the heft of it. I like the fat section and barrel. I like the blackness of the lacquer. I like the smoothness and the wetness of the nib. Ahhhhh I am happy. Just if they produced a black lacquer with gold trim. Oh man. This is the next fulfilment after the Parker Duofold last year.
