Yeah, let's see it!

The show was smaller than I expected but still there were some interesting displays.

Ask and ye shall recieve....

Here's a couple of pics of the Bexley Sheherazade I picked up at the LI Pen Show on Saturday.

It's even better looking in person. :)

Hrm...piccies weren't showing up from Picasa. Here's a direct link to them.

Having just got back from a field trip, on my doorstep were:

Yellow VP FP, broad nib (Gifted)

Yellow VP BP (traded - matching the above)

Pilot Ageless Future BP in gold (bonus pen sent with VP BP)

I was ecstatic. I've yearned for the yellow VP for so long and now I have a set, thanks to a very generous trade (you know who you are!)

I also bought back with me:

Cross Century II, Blush, xf nib. A steal from an outlet store selling last year's models (under £20!)

A tiny Inoxcrom FP, in silver and white, under £5, and a great little writer.

I got a killer Bexley 56 in woodgrain at the LI pen show. It has a Waverly nib by Richard Binder. One of my favorites!

Also, I got a 51 back from Ron Zorn. I will speak about it later in a couple of days, but lets just say the work he did was amazing. :)

Great looking pen. Thought really hard about getting one, but I couldn't pass up the Bexley Sheherazade in blue cracked ice that one of the other vendors had. I'll be getting a 56 someday....

Three Lamy Safaris with medium nibs arrived today from Tennessee.

The red one has already sold, and will be on its way up the east coast in tomorrow's mail.

One of the charcoal pens is for my son's friend, and he will pick it up this evening or tomorrow.

The other charcoal is for me, and I hope to find someone who wants to swap me their F nib for my M.

A vintage Aurora 88, from a FPN member. Filled it with water first, then proceeded to fill it with Waterman South Sea Blue. Writes so beautifully.

A Waterman Taperite, on ebay. Filled it with water. It's working.

Interestingly enough, I bought three items on two consecutive days about 10 days ago. The first one to arrive was from an ebay from France, in less than a week, last Thursday. The two other items, one from Italy (the Aurora) and the Taperite (from the USA) arrived today.

In 1999, I visited Joon pen store in New York for the first time. One of the reasons I went there was because I was considering buying either a Waterman Man 100 or a Parker Duofold. When the Waterman first hit the paper, I knew that was the one for me.

But for some reason or another, every time over the past ten years when I was about to get one, something always came up that prevented me from buying it. I tried a Liaison at Joon in 2005, and even though it's a nice pen, it just wasn't the same as the Man 100 to me.

Even as recently as a few weeks ago, I missed out on an NOS Man 100 on the bay by just a few minutes. But after putting up a WTB post here at FPN, I got a reply from Frits B saying he had one he would be willing to sell me. And I quickly took him up on it. Even though I've been a member here for a few years, this was my first purchase through FPN, and it was great. The Man 100 arrived today in the mail. I gently opened the package to find a beautiful black and gold piece of art, as beautiful as the one I remembered from Joon.

Once I ran some water through the nib and dried it, I popped in a Waterman cartridge and headed for some paper. Up until now, my Sheaffer Connaisseur and Targa have been my smoothest, best writers. But the Man 100 surpasses them. It's buttery smooth, with a medium wet flow and great feel of the paper, with just the right amount of flex.

I'll write an official review with photos soon. But for now, I'm basking in the glow of my new toy. It has been worth the wait.

If you're reading this Frits, thanks again.

The newest is an unbranded Regal Windsor that I got yesterday. I found it in the French Market in the French Quarter. There's a guy there who has a booth selling nothing but Chinese pens. I picked it up and just had a good feeling about it, so I bought it. It was pretty inexpensive. I loaded it up with a Burgundy cartridge from Papier Plume (shop in New Orleans) and it fired up and wrote a good medium line right away, much to my surprise.

I didn't know what it was till I got home. Out of curiosity, I started going through the I Sell Pens website to see if I could identify it. Then I noticed that the free cartridges the guy threw in were marked Regal (duh! on me). That narrowed things down to the Regal Windsor. The website mentioned that Regal makes pens for other manufacturers, and that was that. It's identical to the Windsor except that it doesn't say "Regal" on it. Tortoiseshell body with the black cap. I got the pen for $17, goes on ISP for $25, so, not bad! Came with a converter, box of cartridges, and two extra nibs (which do not fit, but who's complaining).

After writing with it a lot yesterday and today to break it in, I really like this pen. It has a nice medium line. (The ink probably doesn't hurt, it's good stuff). On the right paper it writes pretty smoothly. It took me some time to get used to the weight of the pen. Most of my other pens are pretty light and the Windsor is made out of solid stuff, but it didn't take long to adjust. I just took it everywhere with me today and wrote everything with it. Overall, a definite keeper.

But, if anybody wants a couple of Regal-ish medium iridium nibs, let me know.

I got two in the mail today.

The first is a Taccia Momenta with a fine nib in Chocolate Espresso and a Conklin Crescent Mark Twain. My first two fountain pens and I have barely set them down today. Practice Practice Practice.

Mmmm! Jimmie! This is some serious gourmet s**t! Usually, me and Vince would be happy with some freeze-dried Taster's Choice right, but he springs this serious GOURMET s**t on us! What flavor is this?

I don't need you to tell me how freaking good my coffee is, okay? I'm the one who buys it. I know how good it is. When Bonnie goes shopping she buys S**T. I buy the gourmet expensive stuff because when I drink it I want to taste it.

I actually bought four today. Two are inexpensive Pilot Plumix pens that I got from Target (the only two they had XD), one black and one purple, both with blue ink that I plan on changing out for the inks I'm waiting to order.

Another is a Waterman Paris Phileas, blue marble body with a medium nib, and blue ink. Gorgeous pen, roughly $40 at Staples.

The last purchase was unexpected, but exciting. My mom and I were at Goodwill, and I happened to look down to see a Sheaffer calligraphy set sitting in one of the baskets. The box was taped shut so I asked one of the people working there if I could open it up and take a look. The set is from the early 80s, and most of the pieces were still there. Only one ink cartridge was missing, and the nibs were all in really good shape. Whoever the previous owner was had left one of the empty cartridges attached to the pen, but it was nothing that a good soak in cold water didn't fix. The pen is similar to the Viewpoint, without the window in the body. The whole set was only 5 bucks, so I pounced on it. Cheap pens, but a good find nonetheless.

Hey guys. I'm new here, but have been reading up for quite a while. A coworker of mine recently got me into fountain pens by graciously giving me a Watermen Harley Davidson Pen, and a Monteverde Invicta Black Tie. I found a Office Depot special Foray Focus, which i've been using as my daily writer for about a month now, and today, I got a new Rotring Initial Silver.

I'm very excited about the new pen, which i managed to pick up for just $20, and it writes beautifully. I get a little annoyed as there appears to be a small streak of ink that shows on the back part of the nib every time i cap the pen to store it, but that's probably just part of using the pen. I can't help but be a bit anal about certain things.

This is a great site, and i'm happy to be a part of it.

Yaaay!!!! It finally arrived!! My full sized 1911 Sailor with F nib. It writes as smoothly as is frequently discussed on this board, and a perfect size for me, even with my large hands.
