Good heavens, it just gets better!!!

As to qualifications, well you have hands with fingers and you write with your fountain pens, and unquestionably you have discernment, I would thing those are all the qualifications you need!

Being in the Philippines are you familiar with the wonderful Leigh who posts here, I admire her penmanship and writing immensly.

Well done again..Now get on with the reviews!!! :notworthy1:  :roflmho:

All the best.

I just snagged my 6th Parker 51 off of eBay. It's a black aerometric in seemingly good condition. Total price was less than $35! :bunny01:

Wish me luck in getting a good nib.

I just scored a Sheaffer Balance for $5 off ebay! Got two other vintage pens too, both under $20. I figure I'm ahead even if they need a little work, but the nibs looked good in the pictures. Time will tell.

This happens every time I have to sit in front of the computer & do school work. Procrastination sets in, and then the ebay demon starts whispering to me, and then my bank account shrinks....

Got the last pair of Agios I ordered thanks to a post on FPN, along with a bottle of Peacock Blue ink.

I got, in the mail today, a Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen...woo hoooo. It has a beautiful extra fine nib.

I received my last two VP's from Japan, in the "cross" finish, in green and black and in gray and black. I think this is where I will stop. I have, what, nine VP's now? I think? let me count... yep, nine. I thought at one time I wanted at least one of each with gold trim, but as time went on, I found I didn't need to have them all - especially since having so many pens inked is a downright pain when it comes to flushing and refilling weekly. (Yet, the final count will still be about 12 pens inked at any given time.) These two VP's, though, were the last that I really wanted. I had the "cross" finish and red and black and in blue and black already, and they are really my favourite "go to" pens. I wanted the green/gray and blacks to finish them out.

I thought at one point that Pilot had changed the diameter of their VPs this year, as I'd noticed a difference (albeit slight) in diameter of the deep yellow and LE purple 2008 pens from the "cross" finish pens. Then I read up on the models as seen on the website from Siv's signature, and realized that my "cross" finish pens are actually dating back to 1999, and there actually was an increase in the size of the VP shortly thereafter. And here I thought I was on the cutting edge of modern with my "cross" finish pens... I'm actually quite behind the times! It does make me curious about the Decimo, now, though, and just how much slimmer it is in comparison to the two VP sizes I have. I might pick up one Decimo for the heck of it, but maybe next year.

Today I received from John Mottishaw a Pelikan M 420.

Its the one with the black barrel and sterling silver cap.

He made a hard-shoulder italic for it and adjusted the ink flow to the sort of high gush I prefer.

It's as smooth as silk; a truly beautiful - yet restrained - pen.

I have filled it with Pelikan 4001 Violet ink.

Did I say it was as smooth as silk? Well it is.

+1!

Brain, hands, WALLET (very instrumental nowadays) and discernment are all the qualifications one needs to write a compelling review.

Leigh does possess immmaculate handwriting skills and is one of the most creative poeple out here IMHO.

So have at it JPR ... And don't give it a second thought. What is "it" you may be asking? Why shipping your fine collection straight away to Yours Truly for a thorough review. Why, what were you thinking?!??

Cheers!

Solitaire,

When you get a moment, would you please elaborate just a wee bit further on your M420's performance? I am especially interested in what you have to say about the hard-shoulder italic nib that Mr. Mottishaw created for you.

Very Best Regards,

Kiavonne,

You won't be disappointed with a Décimo. I've owned one for approximately two years and can tell you that it does feel much better in the hand than a traditional VP. Furthermore, it's sleeker overall and just "looks better" IMHO.

My $0.02.

Cheers!

And here I was, just about to start my headlong descent into VP madness... and I started with the Decimo. Am thinking of working my way backwards to the standard VP.

On my recent trip to Florida to visit Family, my father's brother in law gave me a nice little fountain pen. It was a

promotional pen presented by Bracco pharmaceuticals on behalf of Diana de Silva cosmetics. In the good old US, we get throw away plastic ballpoints, but those classy Italians, they go all out, wooden presentation case included.

The pen itself is all metal, painted green (they were available in blue too) and sports a thick cigar shape. The nib is a stainless extrafine with just a slit and no heart hole. The barrel is actually three seperable threaded pieces with the center section chromed and adorned with 4 black "o" rings. The nib also breaks down completetly. The cap does not post, unfortunately, but the pen is heavy enough to not need it.

After a good flushing, I threw a no-name calligraphy cartridge filled with green ink and I must say it writes smoother than my Aurora EF nib! I don't have a picture to share, sorry.

I appreciate the gift and the pen's Italian roots.

Since you have VPs, I have a question. The pen that I received today was flushed before shipping. I filled it with my trusty black Private Reserve ink and can't really get an ink flow to save my life. I'm wondering if they did a thorough job of flushing or if it's a trait of the VP? Any suggestions?

Today in the mailbox I found the Waterman 52 Red Ripple that I purchased here at FPN last week. It's not my first Waterman 52, but it's my first Red Ripple. Beautiful!

About an hour later the mail carrier knocked on my door to deliver a package. A Double Package Day - yoo-hoo! In the package I found the

Criollo Cigar Box Turned Pen Case that I also bought here at FPN. Pictures are HERE.

Two new toys and now I'm supposed to go to bed? We'll see about that...

Parker Jotter FP, with a medium nib.

It's rather wet, a little scratchy, not a hint of flexibility, very light (ridiculously so) and a little too small for my hands.

Ah well, friend/leave on desk pen.

Not a pen, exactly, but the new nib for my stainless Targa finally showed up today. As evidenced by my avatar. I ordered it... two weeks ago. Sheaffer's service department is very helpful, but also very slow.
