Big box from Fountain Pen Hospital:

  • Conway Stewart Cromwell
  • Krone Architectus 'Celtic'
  • Acme 'Homer's Scream'

Plus a box from J Rake with a special-ordered Visconti Van Gogh in yellow.

Big day overall.

Just arrived in the mail, my PhD present to myself: a blue and chrome Aurora Optima Auroloid from Pam Braun (I didn't even know these were available with chrome trim until a couple of weeks ago). I'd sold a black Optima a while back and have regretted it ever since, so I jumped on the chance to replace it with one whose color I prefer. Best,

David

PS Count me amongst Pam's many satisfied customers (no affiliation, blah, blah, blah).

Back in 2003 I was trying to buy a Mont Blanc Generations in Bordeaux for my wife. I ended up with a fake that I sent back, then I found a stationary store in Ohio that was getting rid of it's fountain pens that listed the pen I wanted for $144. Not the best price on a Generations but it was new old stock. After ordering the pen and waiting a while I contacted them back to see what was going on. They were very apologetic but someone had sold the pen to an instore customer so they offered to give me a substitute pen. Not too happy at that point I asked what they had, they said they only had one fountain pen left but it was a Black Mont Blanc and I could have it for the same price. <_<

Well the pen showed up and it was a new in box M-145 Meisterstück Hommage a’ Frederic Chopin with CD. It was marked $300 on the box. I was thrilled! My wife liked it but it was scrachy and skipped some and she was afraid to put it in her purse and use it because MB's tend to be prone to breakage. Soooo it has quietly rested in the box on a shelf for 4 years. I mentioned it the other day and she said I was welcome to use it if I wished!!! On close inspection with a 10x loupe I found the tines to be out of alignment. I tried to straighten them but the feed seemed to be part of the problem. I pulled the nib and feed and worked on both for a few minutes and reinstalled and the pen writes wonderfully. I let her try it out and she almost took it back!

So it looks like a have a M-145 Chopin to write with as long as I stay in good graces! ;) For now it's filled with PR Chocolat and riding in my pocket and going in my pen case! :D

Arrived today: Not one but TWO Rotring 700s in EF. This was the pen I fell in love with and abused for almost a decade before I destroyed most of it trying to transplant its nib onto another pen body. They came all the way from Germany where they were found as NOS, both with stickers.

Since I have two EFs here, I may try to perform that nib transplant to have an F and an EF, or I may try to find an F separately and hermetically seal the other and lock it away, you know "just in case."

I'm super-excited about this! But I don't have a converter with me that fits. I may in fact only have one converter that fits, as the converters for my 600s do not seem to fit. I hope there still are converters for the ol' 700 available.

Whee!

a slim and stainless steel parker fountain pen that I got for free from a friend. Don't know which model is it but it writes very well.

Today at my favorite pen store, Dromgoole's in Rice Village, Houston, I bought two pens: a Sheaffer Legacy 2 in smooth palladium and gold finish with an 18k gold nib in fine and the Touchdown filling system, and a Bexley Poseidon Tortoise with an 18k gold medium nib. I can't wait to try them out!

Waterman Liaison, just back from Deb Kinney. It was an E-Bay purchase that never worked. I sent it 2x to Janesville, but they didn't fix it. It now works! So... I got it today - in terms of a working pen. Wrote 30 journal pages on my recollections of being a cab driver. What fun!

Attended the Arkansas Pen Club Meeting tonight and picked up a sweet Black and Pearl 1929 Wahl Gold Seal Pen with a Gold Seal Manifold Fine nib. The color is perfect and I already filled it with PR Black Magic Blue and have been writing in my Journal with it tonight. Great day!!

Hero 100 stainless steel flighter.

Now, how to ink it up? Aurora Black? Quink B-B? PR American Blue?

(Yes, conservative tastes in style).
