What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

It was yesterday, but I'm still excited about having received four (4!) Parker 35 fountain pens and a Parker 35 ballpoint which matched one of the FPs. The seller put that one in as a gift since he didn't have any converters. Quite the gift!

I played soak and poke with all four of them yesterday and inked two today. I'm making myself wait until new ink arrives to ink the others. At least, I think I'm waiting. It depends on what shows up in tomorrow's mail.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

A French-made Souverain de Bayard ca. 1950s. A small pen, that writes well. My second French-made pen.

A Sheaffer Vac-fill, ca 1940s I believe, which was exactly as described. A nice firm nib, like Sheaffer does them well. Floats on paper, leaving a nice smooth trace. See this Review of the pen.

Finally, yesterday, a Pelikan set, sold here by Irish Monk.

Yesterday also, a nice Sheaffer Imperial Touchdown set of fp and bp, in a local antique mall. Canadian-made, with gold caps. Good writer, a Sheaffer. Wish I had a digital camera. If I end my spending on pens, I might have enough to buy a good camera. This url may serve as a reference for illustration purposes.

My collection is growing too quickly. Considering paring down a bit. Overall, I'm happy with what I have found.

Fernan,

Very nice Pelikan set indeed. Congratulations.

I'm happy to read you're merely considering paring down your acquisitions, for we both know that an endeavor such as that can only occur in our dreams (nightmares would be the more appropriate term :D ).

In all seriousness, however ... your fine collection, leastwise from what I've observed thus far, is nothing short of spectacular. I suppose a small (very small) decrease in fountain pen purchasing would be allowed ... for several hours, at the outset ... with the understanding that full-bore acquisitions would resume the very next day. :D

Cheers!

Just got a Matte Silver Rotring Initial F. Seems to be a wet writer, and the nib is wider than expected (comapred to my Rotring 600's)

I like the way it looks though; the arrowhead shaped nib is what sold me to the pen.

Going to ink it for prolonged use on my next rotation.

Two pens today, a pair of ivory colored Sheaffer Agio pens. But Tuesday brought me a Sheaffer Imperial Masterpiece. Quite a contrast, here they are:

(My scanner made this show up more yellow than it really is.)

My second Rotring 600 series 1 in black with a OM nib. My other is a normal fine. WOW I inked it with HOD and it glides across the paper. Even on Moleskine paper! I've never been disappointed by an old Rotring.

Hi, Bill.

One couldn't ask for a greater contrast! Two distinctly different FPs to be sure; but isn't it great how opposites attract?!??

Your Masterpiece's honeycombed torso is exceptional, a superb example of artistic craftsmanship at its zenith IMHO. "They don't make 'em like they used to" most certainly applies in this case.

I hope you enjoy your latest acquisitions for many years to come.

Cheers!

Yesterday, actually. A Lapis Blue Lucky Curve Lady Duofold (Fleabay). Posted ordinary surface mail in US on 23rd and arrived in UK on 27th; not bad hunh?

The pen's smaller than I thought it was going to be and the barrel is almost black, compared to the bright blue cap, but it was only my second REALLY old pen (the first a 1932 Jade Duofold Junior Streamline (which I'm sure is BIGGER than the Lucky Curve??) is at the Battersea Pen Home being serviced), but, heck, it was only cheap!

Anyway, it's been cleaned/flushed, so, after deciding which ink to use, the moment of truth will arrive.

I got a maroon Sheaffer touchdown filler with a #5 Feathertouch nib and a brown Sheaffer lever filler that looks like a Craftsman but also has a #5 nib instead of the #33 nib I would expect.

Ohmygosh! I am in love with my new pens from Richard Binder! And talk about service: I placed my order late Monday night, it shipped Wednesday (even with a custom grind!), and arrived this morning (Saturday).

I ordered a Pelikan M805 in black with an OB nib (I had been coveting this for a good long while). It is perfect. More so than I ever imagined. The perfect size, the perfect weight, the perfect combination of classic and modern with the black body and the silver trim. And the nib! Oh! It is smooth and juicy and broad! This is perfection.

But wait! That is not all! I must tell you about my impulse purchase: a Bexley Simplicity in teal with a 0.9mm cursive italic nib. Now, I wasn't expecting much from this pen. I liked the color and the clip and the size. I wanted needed a 0.9mm cursive italic nib. I wanted needed a new pen to put it on. Voila! When I opened the box: wow oh wow! I was (I still am) most definitely impressed. The depth of color, the shimmer of the pearlescent finish, is gorgeous. The clip is both pretty and pragmatic. It is light-weight and balanced. And then I wrote with it: nirvana. The 0.9mm cursive italic nib is unbelievably glassy, buttery. The line variation is extreme compared to my stub nibs. The flow is flawless (wet without being a gusher). Wow oh wow!

I am in love. This is fountain pen bliss. Bliss bliss bliss! Can I say it again? Bliss!

Stipula Ventidue in blueberry with an EF nib. It was a gift from my parents for the opening night of the show I'm in. It's a great pen and my fourth Stipula in just over three months. Needless to say I'm addicted to this brand.

The postman just delivered the parcel from Taizo (Engeika, ebay Japan) containing my prized Custom 743FA and two leather pen cases(Black single pen case and a brown two pen case). I have just opened the plastic sleeve that seals the pen to dry test the nib (I had to wrestle a bit with the plastic Pilot pen box to open it). I will be inking it up later tonight. Taizo had sent out the package on 24th feb 17:30hrs and it reached me on 2nd march 1315 hrs. That is just 4 working days! Kudos to the EMS network, Japan post and India post!

Best,

Hari
