What Pen Did You Get Today?

Received an Eversharp Skyliner and a Parker Televisor -- both wonderful black and gold vintage pens.

I'm curious, though -- the Televisor is often described as made in Canada and marketed for the U.K. -- this one is imprinted as being made in the U.S. Were there different types of Televisors? This is a great small pen.

Waterman Kultar and a 70's era Sheaffer cartridge pen. The Sheaffer was given to my wife years ago but she didn't want to be bothered with a fountain pen and stored it away. It was a nice surprise when she ran across it in a junk box. The Kultar is a surprising good writer for for about $10. Maybe the best $10 I have spent on ebay. I can see it getting a lot of use.

The mail carrier was kind to me today (don't know if the carrier is male or female -- I'm never home when the mail comes) - I received my Sheaffer FP MP set today, a green set, with lead in the pencil, and an empty cartridge in the FP. I think I'll take one of the cartridges from the 2 Sheaffer school pens I received yesterday, and ink it at work tomorrow. In addition, I received my Tac Carry III Black checked pen today. Probably won't ink it for a day or three, because I don't have time tonight to flush it first, like I always do any pen I get, new or used, before I go to bed, and I have men's care group tomorrow almost as soon as I get home from work. I will just have time for dinner before the meeting.

And I still have 2 pens from FPN's own neotiger, as well as a clear demo from speerbob in Thailand, in the wind (or postal system, which has/generates a lot of wind).

I didn't actually get these today; I bought them at the Raleigh show. But hey, what's a day or two between friends.

First, there's the Waterman No. 7 I got from Susan Wirth and wrote about here.

http://www.richardspens.com/images/collection/zoomed/idealno7_white.jpg

I bought that pen on Sunday. Earlier in the show, on Saturday morning, I ran into Dan Reppert, and he had in his case an Evans with a barrel crack. I didn't (and still don't) need an Evans, but the cap and the WARRANTED nib from the Evans enabled me to complete this Welty that I've had lying around capless for a coon's age. (Welty changed its name to Evans in 1915.)

And then, at the auction Saturday night, I managed to snag my desideratum ultimum eo tempore. by which I mean the pen I most wanted at that time. It's the pen I went to the show hoping to find, and there was only one -- this one -- there.

http://www.richardspens.com/images/collection/zoomed/hundred_year_40_red.jpg

I did acquire a few other pens at the show, but these are the biggies, and most of the others are intended for resale. But there is a point to be made here, and that is that shows are where you're likely to find the best stuff. And you get to shmooze with all the coolest people. Or at least many of them -- others will be at the next show, though, so it all evens out.

I want to thank David Isaacson, the evil VacQuack, for his kind decision not to bid on the Hundred Year Pen because he knew I wanted it for my collection. And thanks also go to Al Mayman, who stopped bidding when he realized I was in the chase for the pen. The second point to be made here is that it's only by going to shows and becoming involved that you can develop the kind of friendship that results in acts of personal generosity like these.

Oh, waitaminnit, I have to show this one. I don't yet know what its fate will be, but for the time being I am the owner of a Montblanc 32.

It was part of a lot that another dealer had bought, and it wasn't working. I offered a couple of bucks more than the other person had in it, and voilà! I had it working by the end of the show.

I always love reading what everyone's received--especially enjoyed Richard's goodie-take and their photos from the Raleigh Pen Show. I'm inspired now to go to my first pen show (One near Denver? Need to look).

Meanwhile, today I received a Montegrappa Micra (purple) that I bid on and was (delightfully) surprised to have won! Fine point. Filled with a J Herbin opera rouge cartridge (I believe that's the ink name...lovely, dusky red), and it's a sweet writer.

Technically not today, but this past Saturday at the Raleigh show, a Sailor 1911 demonstrator at a very kind price from Pan Braun.

Two things make this pen special. One, I want all the 1911 colors before they're all gone and didn't have a demonstrator. And two, I'd read so many truly positive comments about Pam's dealings on FPN that I was thrilled to meet her in person. I don't usually get caught up in the celebrity thing but really, I wanted to ask her for an autograph! She is a lovely person, and the legacy of her family's business is inspiring.

Very happily,

Lyne

Came back from New Jersey to find my parker21 waiting. Inked it with some noodlers I bought at the Fountain Pen Hospital. I also found the Fountainpen Hospital a neat place to visit, I have ordered online from them and was nice to go in meet the people I have delt with remotely.

I just wanted to start a poll showing the new pens people get every day!

Have Fun!

Today I got two pens, a Stipula Euturia in Amber and a Sailor 1911 full-size. I'm having a hard time figuring out which one I like more -- very different pens, yet each is satisfying in its own way. Its my first Stipula, and I'm enormously impressed by the attention to detail -- it is far and away the most beautiful pen I've owned. The Sailor feels more like a pen I'd carry daily. Solid, smooth-writing, and attractive. All in all, a good day.

Well, this ol Vac Quack sort of picked up 90 pens this week past.

Here are some of them... in this pic all Sheaffer Snorkels in rather difficult to find color: Periwinkle, Peacock, Fiesta, Vermilion, Mandarin and Fern.

More pics another day.

regards

Got two today!! Both came in the same package, from FPN's neotiger (I pm'd, thanked him, and begged him to not sell any more pens as my family is threatening to cancel my paypal and internet privileges) First is a Hero 100 Flighter F. The other is a fake Mont Blanc. Both inked up nicely, and both write beautifully. I am sure thay are not quite as nice as the real thing; however, I could not purchase a replacement cap for either real pen for what I paid for both pens in their entirety, and the price included shipping from Australia!! There were no deceptions in the for sale -- they were clelrly marked as a Hero 100 and a fake Mont Blank, not a real 51 flighter and real Mont Blanc, neither of which I can afford. So, I get a good replica at a bargain price, and a great writing experience.

I received a beautiful OMAS Millord with a Binderized cursive italic nib in the mail yesterday.

This is actually the second time I've purchased the pen. I traded this pen for a Pilot 823 on the GreenBoard because the OMAS' nib was a bit too broad for me. I had advertised it as an OMAS Paragon because that's what I originally thought it was when I purchased it. As it turned out, the pen is actually the smaller Millord size, which didn't suit the person I traded it to for the Pilot. But I was so enamored with the 823 that I offered just to purchase the pen and have him ship the Millord back to me. In passing, I'd also mentioned that I might just have the OMAS customized by Richard Binder since the nib was too broad. I heard back from the trader, and he explained that he was going to the Raleigh Pen Show and ever so kindly offered to take my pen to Raleigh and have Richard customize the nib for me before returning it. A decidedly nice man.

So, the pen is here - with a beautiful Binderized cursive italic nib that I'm thoroughly enjoying.

photo is pre-custom nib:
