Yesterday I decided to buy my first fountain pen, so I went to a local shop to get one. They had several brands with several price tags. I started looking at all the models they had and soon I narrowed the choices down to two.

First there was this Parker pen for 25€ (sorry but I don't know which model) and the second and my final choice was the Tombow Object in Turquoise (or at least I think it is) for 32€.

I went for the Tombow because it had the better look n' feel and when I took the cap of the Parker it revealed a really poor construction quality with some injection marks on the plastic and some cuts on the edge of the rubber grip. The only choice then was to buy the Tombow. I chose the Fine point but I don't know if I'm really going to get used to it, I still apply too much pressure. Hope I don't ruin it before I get to do some serious writing. :D

I have been raiding the treasure chest of vintagepenster and snagged the following vintage pens:

Wahl #72 - jade green with an F Signature Pen nib;

A Red and a Silver-grey Esterbrook J Double Jewel - the former with a 9550 nib; the latter a 2314-M stub;

and a Parker Vacumatic - golden pearl with a fine nib ca. 1942

All are in good working condition although the Vac and Red Estie are a bit wonky in filling.

From eBay (Teri Morris), I got a blue Sheaffer PFM Imperial with a fine nib. She was so gracious as to send me a bonus of a Sheaffer Netbook (an address book really).

Finally from DocNib, a lovely Colibri LeGrand in burgundy.

My credit card is in intensive care right now. :embarrassed_smile:

Couple of pens I've been waiting on (mail order) have just arrived:

A Parker 51 (no idea of the vintage) from ebay. Black body, very good nick if it is thirty odd years old. (I have no idea of the pen's provenance or how old it is. Have any reissue editions of thse things been produced since '72?)

A Cross ATX in basalt black. This one's new.

Just received a Pelikan M205 (clear demonstrator with chrome accents) with a medium nib from Pear Tree Pens. This is my first Pelikan and also my first piston filler. The rest have been cartridge/converter pens except for a Hero with the air bladder which got me started in fountain pens. I've used it for all of about two minutes and so far I'm very impressed with the quality and feel of Pelikan as well as how much ink it holds.

Didn't get it today but it's my most recent purchase.

Sorry for the horrible pics. The color is pretty hard to pick up with flash or incandescent lighting.

It's an Omas Bologna in Pearl Blue with a Fine nib.

A few Hero's for work people with a bunch of ink from I Sell Pens and a lovely Rajan green and black eyedropper from Steve Braun. This is really a beautiful pen and it writes like a dream! Earlier this week I received a Kaweco Sport and a 51 Vac that is a gift for my son. I'll add a pic of the Rajan if I can, it's worth looking at.

I got a Rotring Rivette in the mail today. Amazing smooth, wet writer for an entry-level pen ($20.00 from a fellow FPN member).

My Pilot VP showed up today.... wow this is one slick pen! I love the design, the clip doesn't get in my way, and the nib is so small. On top of all that, it writes fantastically! I can't wait to show it off to the people who think I'm crazy for using fountain pens. :D

An NOS Omas Celluloid Collection in Scarlet Red with a medium nib (old style - 1994). Beautiful pen, but plan to get it modified to a cursive italic by one of the nib-meisters.

Got home from vacation to find my Lamy 2000 waiting, tried it with Sheaffer Skrip and it was okay, then tried it with PR American Blue and WOW. I'm psyched!

This is my sumgai deal. I got this Parket Sonnet for under $30. I have seen others like it elsewhere on the net for >$150. Glee!

Pilot Elite, extra fine.

Oddly enough, I also have the medium and fine point versions, and this one is smoother than either of them.

Flea-market pickings...

Black flattop Duragold, made in England. Looks to be a third-tier lever-filler of solid construction. Nib (14kt gold) has no tipping, instead it's just folded over upon itself. Writes fine and smooth with a small amount of toothiness. A bit of a hard starter, but a bit of a poke and it gets going. Was pleasantly surprised to find that it had its original sac inside it, which was still in very good condition. Filled it with Waterman blue/black & wrote like a charm. Not bad for $10.
