What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I received 3 pens...all Vacumatics.

A silver double jewel with a lovely stub nib, unfortunately it doesn't fill and so it's in with John at Pencity for repairs.

A black 1945 that needs plenty of TLC, depending on price of restoration.

An Azure Blue 1945 vac with a medium nib, which needs to be worn in, it's had hardly any use apparently.

I should write to Michael McNeil first, to let him know the Sheaffer Imperial arrived today, but I'm reading this... and the Sheaffer Imperial arrived today! It is FABULOUS! What a bargain, too! Thank you, Michael! (P.S. That was WICKED FAST!)

In the last two days I've gotten three pens: an Esterbrook J in a beautiful gray swirl pattern, with four different nibs; a Noblest "Black Golden Cayman" with a fine point nib; and a Goldmichel Model 810 that was in mint, un-inked condition, but now has ink in it. The Noblest is an inexpensive Chinese pen and I picked up off eBay for $4.95 plus shipping. It writes quite nicely and I'll probably buy more Noblest pens based on this one. The Goldmichel 810 is a vintage pen from Italy, made in the late 1940s. It has a nib that is simply a wonder to write with, very smooth and light. The Estie is my second of that brand, and I'll be getting more as time and money allow.

Just my $.02,

Ron

Today I received a Duke D10 Silver Rings and a Duke Mako Shark, Both heavy, F/M steel nibs, smooth and wet writers. I put Pelikan Blue in the Silver Rings, and Pelikan Green in the Shark, since it has a green portion to it. I got them from ebay seller goldquills, formerly known as akideal (not affiliated). They had the best price on the pair which I have wanted for over a year.

I acquired this:

No idea what it is. The clip has "Hachette" (who I thought were a French publisher) engraved on it, but according to the nib, it's a German pen. Anybody have any ideas about this one?

I received a Sailor Sapporo with rhodium trim and EF nib. Unfortunately, the nib is misaligned and I'm awaiting to hear back from Pam of Oscar Braun to see if I can get an exchange.

See:

Other thoughts: It's unfortunate that I have yet another plastic-y pen. Sure the Sailor Sapporo's nib is great but the barrel of the pen isn't that nice. I also have the Pilot 78G and the Sapporo's barrel reminds me of that—plastic-y. Then, I have the Pelikano Jr, another plastic-y fountain pen. Then I have the Décimo which I believe is aluminium, and then a Birdie which is stainless steel.

Even though I don't want another plastic-y pen, it seems like I'm interested in the Namiki Falcon because of the nice soft F nib. For those prices, can't the Japanese manufacturers move away from plastic (or resin; feels the same to me) to something nicer? :)

Received 2 pens today that I purchased from Robert and he kindly sent by international express - arrived in 5 business days instead of 8. These are:

1. Carbonesque blue

2. Carbonesque black

Plus Richard Binder nibs (medium stub & cursive italic) and a surprise leather sleeve. The RB medium stub is a dream to write with.

Absolutely gorgeous pens that round off my VP purchases for a long long time ;-))

Back to writing... anything...
