What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

A lovely soft-nibbed Swan self-filler, in dark green celluloid with brass barrel threads, and the most edibly cute tiny little vest-pocket ringtop Waterman 52 1/2 V in woodgrain mottled hard rubber with a deliciously smooth semiflex nib. Both now loaded with Diamine WES Imperial Blue, and both in beautiful newly restored condition from Andy's Pens.

:) As my birthday is coming up very soon, they're my present to me. I haven't had either a Swan or a Waterman in my collection until now, so I had to make up the lack... That's my excuse, and I'm sticking with it!

interestingly this is the umpteenth time that I have had good results from budget buys - yet when i put of the dosh on something more expensive I have been disappointed more times than awed

i will leave final judgement til after the london pen show but me thinks i am gonna be a cheep and cheerful chick from now on

So I'm opinionated - get over it!!.......No, really - get over it!!

Hmmmm I was going to put up a WANTS list - but that's too long as well ......

Well I've been reading the forum for a few days and I went and picked up my first fountain pen, a Lamy Safari with a medium nib. I love the way it writes it's hard to describe it's sort of effortless, it seems the less pressure and the faster the stroke the better it writes. Ok I'm hooked, I love it can't wait for the brand new pen store that's opening up near me. I think my next ones are a Lamy 2000 fine and a Pilot Vanishing point. He's also going to be selling Noodlers ink.

Technically I got this delivery yesterday, but most of the pens are still soaking their (presumed) factory gunk off.

I got 2 Parker Vectors with medium nibs. And unlike the Vectors I've tended to get from folks around here, which although advertised as "mediums" have a big "F" stamped on the underside of the feed, these Vectors are real mediums with an "M" stamped on the feed.

I got one each of: Waterman's "Graduate," which is a metal barreled fountain pen. I don't usually go for metal pens, but this one has a plastic section. It's a medium.

A Pilot 78G in broad/stub. I now have a bunch of Pilot 78Gs. Even without tipping material I'm sure that this fountain pen will still be functional after I croak.

A Hero calligraphy fountain pen. I want to see if that upturned nib will allow me to write a broad line with the pen held at my usual angle. Speaking of angles I'm wondering now if that nib is upturned at too steep an angle. Guess I'll find out. I wonder if I could angle it down a bit if necessary?

So I have some new toys to play with serious writing instruments to do very responsible, conservative things with that will in no way result in an experience of pleasure on my part. And, no I couldn't really afford it, but yes I bought this bunch of fountain pens anyway. I think my will power must be trapped in a bottle of ink somewhere, I don't seem to be exercising it anymore.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Not today, but yesterday, I received a Dani Trio Tac Carry I, with a Hero 616 thrown in for good measure, from FPN's Paul Butterfield. A wonderful pen, and a wonderful transaction with a fellow FP afficionado.

Last night I received a lovely blue Conway Stewart 36 off the dreaded. It dates from the 50's and is in very nice shape. It's about the size of an Esterbrook LJ, has a CS #5 semi-flex medium nib and writes with a full wet line. It's the smaller version of the CS58, I'm told.

Pilot 78G. I dropped and broke my first 78G about one month ago. It started skipping, so I just causually tossed it in the trash, since it was so inexpensive. Well, I missed that writer! So, I finally replaced with with a turquoise one from Todd at isellpens.com. WOW.. what a great writer for $12!!!! and it writes better than my first 78G. What a great pen... I just wish it felt more substantial... but maybe that's part of its appeal....

I came home last night to find in my mailbox a beautiful, luminous azure Parker Debutante Vacuumatic that Sean (SMG) gave me. Wow! She is GORGEOUS! And she writes an extra-fine, delicate line.

Many, many thanks to Sean!

Photos later... hooray!

Well, stretching it a bit but 3 days ago I received a Sheaffer Snorkel Clipper with a fine F4 nib in gorgeous Mandarin Orange. Great condition. An eBay bargain, imho at $30 (incl. shipping). I think it has become my favorite, but time will tell.

A bargain! That's what I got. Went into my university campus student shop and spotted a pen set engraved with the name of the uni on each barrel. One FP and one BP. Asked the price. £1.50 ($3 ish) Couldn't believe it. Old stock apparently. Just had to have it at that price.

The FP is plain chrome with three small black circles where the barrel meets the section. Understated and elegant design. The nib is two toned, gold and chrome and quite fine. Its very slim barrelled and quite short, but I've got tiny hands so I don't mind that. IT writes fantastically smoothly. (Had an int. cart in the barrel, and started straight away).

Havent even tried the BP. Will probably give that away, as I try not to use them much these days. Have two Parker Jotters for necessary times, tho.

Anyway, off to play with my bargain, some more...

Another True Writer from the Levenger Outlet on Ebay, a Kyoto. I had thought the Fiery Amber one I'd received earlier might have actually been a Kyoto, but I was wrong. Side-by-side, they are close but clearly different pens. The Fiery Amber is gorgeous, but not, er, Fiery Amber, imo. The Kyoto is a bit more appearling to me because of the surprise of tiny bits of turquoise in amongst the carmel and black. Beautiful pen!

Just got a Blue Carbonesque Vanishing Point (aka Pilot Capless) from Oscar Braun Pens. I had checked out many posts & pictures on the internet and didn't know if I'd like them or not. Got to try one at the local Paradise Pen Company. I loved the way the Blue looked & felt. It writes quite well too. And it seemed like the way the clip is positioned, it gives my finger and thumb a place to rest the way I normally hold the pen. Paradise Pens wanted around $140 for it (if I remember right). I had heard they can be found online for under $120.

I did a little digging found a GREAT price from Oscar Braun and ordered on Monday. Shipping from Michigan to Ohio is super-fast and it is here today! Hooray! I got the fine nib. Good thing I like EF nibs. Pilot being a Japanese pen apparently makes the nibs smaller and it seems to be less wet than my EF Lamy pens. Not sure if that's because of the pen or using the ink cartridge that came with it.

The only minor complaint I have: it doesn't seem like the converter it came with will hold much ink. I'd guess about half the Waterman converter I have in one of my other pens.

I bought three pens today. I found some amazing (more than 75% off MSRP) for three Visontis: A green Ragtime I, blue Ragtime II, and an Opera SE in Pacific Blue. They will arrive via FedEx sometime tomorrow. I am anxious to see how they compare to my Divinia Proporzione.
