As Jon W reported the other day, the best shop selling pens in Philadelphia (Holt's) is selling most of its pens 50% off (= at cost, I think). As if that weren't enough, they still have in stock various discontinued but desirable pens. So, yesterday I bought an Omas Ogiva Celluloid Autunno and, evidently unable to contain myself, returned today for an old-style Omas Paragon (both fountain pens). I bought the last of their Autunno fps (they still have a rollerball), but they still have some black Ogiva rollerballs and bps, and I'm pretty sure they still have some old-style Paragon fps (they have a few other discontinued Omas too, as well as current models). Worth a visit (or, presumably, a phone call).

A Lamy Al-Star Raspberry, a bundle of Preppys and Petit1s, and 3 Hero 330s are in hand while a Reform 1745 is on its way. Got to love FPN for all the deals and nuggets of info.

I would have more pens if I did not buy two mechanical pocket watches and more ink. I have an ink addiction/obsession I think. It is terrible.

Kaigelu 316 in gray and amber swirl. Whoa, for being a $30 pen, this one is something else. Beautiful styling, looks almost as rich as my Bexley America the Beautiful in mahogany, and writes very smoothly right out of the box without complaints. Solid weight, but not heavy. If I can somehow get decent pictures, this one deserves a real review.

My wife and kids just returned from an European vacation whilst I stayed home and worked. In addition to the pictures of pen stores that I might have visited if I was with them (how very thoughtful), they surprised me with a Deep Blue/Turquoise Montegrappa with a broad nib. I just need to determine the right blue to put in it. Right now, I am leaning towards Herbin Eclat de Saphir or Visconti Blue

I have two new Rotring 600s (that are selling at heavily discounted prices here in the Philippines, maybe due to the phasing out of these line of pens) - a Black with an F, and a Lava with an OM nib. From a fellow FPNer (vintagepenster), a lovely and well-maintained Esterbrook LJ Double Jewel in silver and grey with a 9550 nib. These pens are in my daily rotation now and will be so until some new ones come along. Just three days before, a couple of very nice Reform 1745s (from JJBlanche) arrived but were promptly sidelined when the Rotrings and Esterbrook came into my possession.

Today I got myself a Rotring Newton. Its black resin with a mediun nib. Whats realy cool is the way you open it to insert ink cartriges. You have to twist the end of the pen ant it will come apart at the seam. Kind a neat. And it writes like a Rotring. Ahhhhh.

A slightly less impressive haul in my case: just won an ebay auction for a Rotring 600 Newton. (Presumably the last model done as a Rotring before the plug was pulled and Parker started manufacturer them instead, as the retailer claims its a new piece.) I hope this post isn't considered counting chickens.

From the amount of people buying Newtons (3/4s of the thread's posters), am I to take it that the old stock is being (or has been) dumped? (I apologise to Stani if this is an older model he's tracked down.)

(I'm also waiting on a Pilot Birdie, but I didn't order that one today...)

In fact it was yesterday, and it was an Binderized Pelikan M215 with medium nib.

The pen is working very well on every paper I tried, it's very smooth, a great pleasure.

Montegrappa Miya in midnight blue celluloid, M nib. I'd gone to the store intending on getting a Visconti, but became totally seduced by the Miya's lines. So here I sit just turning the pen over and over mesmerized by the colors of the celluloid.

Oh, yeah, it writes pretty good too!

Looking for an Omas Arco Verde...the one that got away.

Last week a friend got back from visiting family and friends of his in India, met up with him today and he had brought back 3 pens for me, a very nice gift: 2 Hero 616 (I think), the Parker 51 sort of copy. 1 was black, the other was burgundy. Pretty nice pens, actually, good smooth nibs, fairly fine, writes very well indeed.

Also I got a Parker steel-nibbed fountain pen with a slide filler, never seen one like it before, the pen looks like an under-fed Parker Big Red, nib is quite nice, I haven't inked this one yet, but did flush it out with water and tried writing with that, seems like another nice, fine nib, smooth as well. The only thing written on it is "Parker" and "P.1"

I gave Diane the black 616, the other two I will be using myself. I would place all 3 in the "school pen" category, I always have a use for those, plus they tend to be a lot of fun to use.

All in all a very nice gift from a very nice friend.

An unrestored Wearever in Jade color with a fine stiff Durium 14k nib. Going to polish it up this week and get my bud Danny to put in a sac and see how it writes!
