What Pen Did You Get Today?

George

Recommended Posts

I received first thing this morning, a Visconti Metropolis in Sterling Silver (F) and a Graf von Faber-Castell Classic Ebony with a Deb Kinney stub - both from a fellow FPN member.

The Metropolis is delightful enough to send me prancing across the office but the Faber-Castell has been disappointing so far. The stub is scratchy and the tines misaligned, I don't know if this is from the work done on it or from use. In any case, I will first speak to the fellow FPN member before (most likely) sending the nib off to have some work done on it. The pen itself is otherwise wonderful.

In rotation:

Pelikan M400 with Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji

Nakaya Kuro-tame Desk Pen with Platinum Blue

Visconti Van Gogh Maxi with Aurora Black

Got a Bexley Fun Time. I thought I would like it, but it really is too "girlish" for me. The "lipstick" color is really hot pink. I haven't even inked or dipped it. It will be on Marketplace soon.

About a week and a half ago, after a particularly frustrating round of work on my latest project, I decided to order some cheap Japanese pens from JetPens (from whom I'd never ordered before) to cheer myself up. The envelope just came today. :clap1:

I am now the proud owner of two Pilot Petit1s - cobalt and brown, a Blue-black Platinum Preppy, and an Ohto Tasche in the silvery pink. They're all terrific! I think the brown one may take up permanent residence in my dayplanner until I find a suitable "nice" replacement.

I'm a bit perplexed by the cartridge that came with the Preppy, however. (All the other Preppies I own are converted eyedroppers from Pendemonium.) There's a ball bearing or something in one end. Do I remove it? Do I use the other end of the cartridge (which is very skinny, so I would tend to doubt it)?

So, finally I got my Aurora Optima burgundy broad nib in the mail.

I started to lose the faith...

Then: except any comment on the pen (that I'll post elsewere), please just accept one advice from me: if you live in the EU, don't buy online from Switzerland!

I did more than 30 online purchases so far but I never get:

- 15 days stop at the border (20 days total from ship to receiving)

- 20% taxes + 3% custom duty

Unfortunately this made my purchase a bad deal.

Time for the swiss to join the Euro if they want some more money from me...

Cheers,

Andrea

I got my $9.99 Pilot, medium point, FPN Van Gogh blue starry night ink and 4 ink samples from Pear Tree today.

This is my second fp. My first is the Waterman Phileas. I love writing with my Waterman... love love love.... The pilot is OK.... is guess pretty OK for a 10 dollar pen. I'm having trouble filling it up though with Pear Trees samples. My Pilot has that squeeze filler thingy and I don't think I can get enough of the nib down in the ink to fill completely. I should be receiving my Reform from Lexaf in a day or two! I'll let you all know how I like it compared to the Waterman and the Pilot.

I love my ink samples from PT. I'll be ordering a set every month for awhile. Love the FPN Blue Starry Night as well. Boy that thing is filled up to the tippy top! The color is almost green.

I'm saving up for the Pelikan 215 I think.

Yesterday: a black Platinum 3776 ribbed, fine nib. I haven't had the opportunity to test it yet, as I arrived home from a vacation, helped the wife unpack, then had to head off to the airport for a trip to the Rockville, MD area for work :crybaby:

At least the pen will be waiting for me when I get home!

Yesterday I picked up a Red Lamy Safari and a Blue Lamy Safari. I also picked up a Bold nib for the Red Safari.

ETA: Yay! I received my gray 51 Special today! It is excellent condition. Hardly any wear on it at all. I flushed it out (as best I could) and it had some awesome purple ink in it.

Picked up an orange Safari today with a bold nib....very juicy!

Also picked up a fake Montblanc pen with an IPG nib....surprisingly good writer although the construction is a little dodgy.

A yellow Bexley Flat Top commissioned by Dennis Bowden of Parkville Pens. Mine is #2 of the 25 made for Dennis. It's a real stunner and everything I've been looking for in a yellow pen. And of course it has a wonderful Bexley 18k gold medium nib; none nicer.

A MB 146 (Le Grand) which I had been waiting to buy for some months now. "My" store (where I don't work) had a dozen of them, I just didn't have the dough). Writes/feels nice, if I were to be un-nice I'd say it writes/feels okay. Still nowhere near my Crest or 51. But, yes, it is near my Charleston which costed about 1/4 as much.

Actually got it yesterday, but couldn't find this thread. Got a Pearl finish Levenger Metalist, thanks to the post here on Marketwatch. Only $25.95, including shipping. Have not yet flushed and inked it, but will later today.
