What Pen Did You Get Today?

My credit card is still smoking from a Visconti Skeleton, black version, in a B nib. Love my demonstrator so much, I developed a senseless passion for the black background version to go with it. Should be here by next week.

Today while dropping off three of my vintage Sheaffers for repair (1928 Sheaffer Flat Top, 1950 Sheaffer Statesman TM, and 1950 Sheaffer TM) at Dromgoole's in Houston, I spied a very pretty Sheaffer Balance II pen from 1998 (new old-stock) in Amber Glow with the 18 karat gold Feather Touch nib in broad. After trying the nib, I decided to purchase it and a bottle of Noodler's Antietam Ink. Both pen and ink are a natural--the broad nib makes a perfect signature pen, and the Antietam's dark red/orange color make the signature really stand out. Now I have another new Sheaffer to go with my original 1998 Sheaffer Balance LE lever-fill in celadon green.

I headed to downtown Seattle today to just walk around and enjoy the sunshine. Of course everytime I'm downtown I have to stop by Worldlux. Nothing really caught my eye in the case (mostly because I had seen all the cool stuff before in one of the other dozen or so trips I took there) but when I inquired about a black Aurora Optima they said they had one in the warehouse and could have it there in 10 minutes for me to look at. Sure...why not :) So, about 10 minutes later a young kid comes in the front door, obviously out of breath...he must have sprinted from the warehouse to the store...holding an Aurora box. I take it out, dip test it and am quite pleased with the results. I tell them to keep it in the store for a little while so I can walk around some more, maybe grab lunch, and think about it. After a call to my brother and some words of encouragement I head back and buy it. I really like this pen. It combines the width of the M800 with the length of the M400. A perfect combo (and especially nice since those are the two pens I'm selling to pay for this one).

Just picked up a Visconti Opera Honey.. Its a very nice looking pen.. And so far, a very nice writing pen as well.

Got the fine nib.. doesn't really seem fine, closer to a medium. But that's ok.. I still like it. ;)

My Hero "51"...er, I mean, 100 arrived today. ;)

It writes well so far. Fairly light weight pen.

It's here, It's HERE!!!! At long last !! OK it's only been since Monday that I've been waiting but I am so excited. :cloud9: I've been searching for 2 months for a Sr. Conklin Endura Black and Bronze pen in decent condition and a reasonable price! :) Hey, anyone can find one in fair condition for $500-$600, I wanted a DEAL! ;) Found a Pen and Pencil set on the 'Bay' with an opening bid amount of $250 and no bids. I guess they hadn't described it such that it was really obvious what it was and it looked like I was one of very few that were watching it! About twelve hours before bid time someone finally threw in a bid for something over $250 and my heart sunk, we may have a bid off coming! Every one that I'd watched for the last month turned into a blood bath at the end and the price was off the charts! From the description on this set and the small pictures it looked pretty nice. Well at T-minus 24 seconds I threw in my max bid of $325 knowing full well the Snippers were already set with their $500 to $600 bids, or that the first bidder had a really high bid already in the system. To my great suprise it said that I had the high bid at $271. Well I held my breath for the next 23 seconds and to my great pleasure not another soul chimed in and the set was MINE!

The mail man knocked on the door this morning with packages that I had to sign for!! JOY! The first turned out to be my new Passport. Ok nice. The second was from Ink Pen with a couple of Pelikan ball pens that take fountain pen ink cartriges. Cool! The third was the new Conklin set!!! AAAAAAHHHH!

The pen and pencil are stunning, the finsh is shinny and smooth there are absolutely no visible defects! This probably the closest thing to a Mint set that I have ever seen! The huge Conlkin nib is beautiful and the pencil works flawlessly! The imprints are crisp and clear. Oh that I should look so good when I'm 78 years old!

My VP Fermo came in last night's mail and it's currently doing office duty. I had a Binder .5mm cursive italic waiting for it on arrival. It's a slow day at the office... but I'm taking a lot of notes!

Just a couple days ago I got a nice (although somewhat chewed upon) brown stripe Majestic with, of all things, a 14kt Flex nib! Polished up to remove the grunge and drawer wear it's a nice pen, if you overlook the missing ring on the cap and the rusty clip and lever. Fills nicely and writes pretty well as recieved -- next week it will go to work with me and get a full nib adjustment and be near perfect.

A previous owner must have been in the disgusting habit of holding the cap between their teeth to uscrew it, two nice rows of multiple bite marks I will have to live with. Barrel is fine, only a few dents and scratches I won't polish out.

All for less than $10!

Yesterday, a Virginia Woolf MB, fine nib, that I'd been anxiously awaiting for days...I write with it, yes, but sometimes I just stare at it. Then today a Sapporo mini (fine) that I'd ordered a while back arrived. I hadn't realized how much ink is in those cartridges--nice! I love the Sapporo nib, enjoying writing with it. But I don't sit and stare at it. I think I'm falling in love with the Woolf and dating the Sapporo.

I received a Delta We (red and black) and Waterman Edson (blue) from Pam. I also bought, but have not yet received, a large Delta Soiree on the Pentrace GB. I am so lucky - but if that was really true, why did I need the We  ?

Ah, that Waterman Edson is such a beauty. It's like a perfect mating of classic and high tech designs. Modern retro. It looks to me like it came off the set of Dune (the movie with Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stewart, and Max Von Sydow). I just wish it wasn't so damned expensive. I will own one of them someday... maybe on one swing of my collection shift. ;)

I got my first taste of a few other Chinese pen makers, namely Hero, Haolilai, and Fuliwen.

Well, I have to say quite sadly, that......... it was a good buy! (I didn't think the Chinese would do this so soon).

The Hero is a "calligraphy" pen. Nicely balanced, cool looks, and truly amazing (but weird) nib. Spring loaded clip, mind you!:

[That sleeve is a like a $0.25 item, as you can see by the thread debris attached]

The next was this full resin beauty, now sold out, with fine flex nib:

Next had to be this clever little Duke mini-torpedo, in its rose gold spendor (Phthalo posted a nice review of one):

http://www.isellpens.com/Images/duke/DUKE%20MINI%20RG%201B.JPG

Finally, for only $9.99, I had to try out this Fuliwen that turned out to be quite a deal (a nice clip for a change, too!):

http://www.isellpens.com/Images/Fuliwen/FULIWEN%202016%20SILVER%201.JPG

The Fuliwen was the sleeper deal. Nice medium weight pen, quality crafted, nice clip, and a good smooth nib. That pattern you see on the barrel is professionally finished--it does not feel like it would scratch off easy with use. One would easily spend 3 times as much for a pen like this made under a different brand name outside China.

I received a green Pilot 78G with a medium nib and a bottle of Private Reserve Sherwood Forest green ink. Pen is super smooth.
