Platinum Pigment Rose Red Ink

Platinum Pigment Ink is odd in that it looks opaque in the bottle, but not on paper. The colors are somewhat muted and not as brilliant as highly saturated dye-based inks. On some brands of paper, it can be slow to dry so lefties will have to compensate.

 

This is a page written a couple of months ago with my initial notes. Since then the pen has had only very intermittent use, but it has started without hesitation and suffered no clogs. Anyone else had similar good success with this brand of ink?

For some reason the image is loading *extremely* slowly.... (as in, "I took a ten minute break to deal with laundry and it's only gotten as far as the date on the page" slow).

Anyway, thanks for the review. How water resistant is the ink?

Ruth, that's a great question. I drew a squiggle on the back of an envelope, let it dry for 30 seconds and held it under running water. It didn't budge. Not even a little. I really didn't expect that level of water resistance, but it beats any other pink ink in my collection.

The color is quite nice, though I wish it was a tad bit brighter. The ink definitely seems a lot more saturated in the pen. I sadly don't see much shading, but I guess that's to be expected since it is pigmented. If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick it up and for how much?

My bottle was a gift, but I checked a couple of retailers and found it at Jet Pens and Pen Chalet. Others should have it as well. Prices vary.

I doubt the think is available in my country, but I really like the color.

Thank-you for the review. I agree ... it's not a colour that shades, but then it was not designed to. I had to add a lot of water to it in order to achieve the below affects on Stillman & Birn, Zeta paper. I drew the below in May and the colour has not shifted. A good ink for sketching.

Ah, pretty. Alas, I never seem to find good uses for pink or red inks except for mixes, and I presume these are an absolute no-no for mixing even with each other...?

I like my ink straight-up, so haven't looked into mixing them. Research today turned up nothing on the subject though I did find admonitions about good pen hygiene with pigment inks which is good advice for all inks. Without planning, I've only used Pigment Inks in Platinum pens. No reason to think they won't perform well in other brands of pens, but in the Preppy and the #3776 Century the inks have been very well-behaved.

Yeah, after posting I did a search on the matter and found several queries about it, but no pictorial evidence of any results. But on the other hand there didn't seem to be any dire warnings not to do it, so maybe one day my curiosity will get the better of me. It often does.

Pira, I love your trees. I think you should sell the trunks printed on tomoe river paper and then the rest of us could play. Oh, come to think of it, how about a tree trunk stamp? Or maybe a resizable gif?
