What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

My last impulsive pen purchase was buying two Parker 51 new generation pens. Burgundy plain and Plum Deluxe.  So far loving them both!

Glad you too are having a good experience with your 51NG pens.

Mine are great. Thoroughly enjoying using them.

Yesterday, I purchased a Kaweco Sport V16 - from the 1960s, I believe. I don't see these piston-filler vintage Sport models turn up often, unless ordering from Germany or eastern Europe. So I was thrilled to see one for a good price on r/pen_swap and had to jump on it before someone else did.

Looking forward to receiving it.

I have the 1972 V16 and it's a lovely little pen. Congratulations!

I do find that it is very eyedropper-ish in its behavior toward the end of a fill, and that it's quite difficult to clean well, so I just keep refilling with a black of some sort.

Good to know! Maybe I will just dedicate one of my Blues to it, or something. (or is this an excuse to finally buy that bottle of Kaweco Pearl Black? LOL)

Is it a dry writer? Would 4001 Royal Blue be too dry for it?

NPD!  Pelikan m205 marbled petrol.

Yes it was kind of impulsive and, well, I couldn’t resist. (Apologies I’ve duplicate posted this in the relevant Pelikan thread too.)

The marbled petrol is quite difficult to photograph, it’s darkish and radiates a quite subtle luminescence of aquamarine swirls.

I’ve switched out the steel nib to a rhodium plated ‘585’ 14k gold nib,  which is a perfect fit.

and there it is in the middle of my flock... you can see it’s quite dark to the eye.. quite a bit smaller than the m600 (or indeed the m800), and slightly bigger than the M101N or the vintage 100, but very comfortable for my hand.

It’s a keeper! 🙂

Apparently I will have a bit of a wait for my latest impulse acquisition.  I received this in an email from Conway Stewart yesterday:

'All our pens are made to order, and currently the estimated dispatch is up to 28 working days from your order date. However, if there is a specific date (ie a birthday ) then please let me know and I will do everything possible to get it to you by that date.

Peter at our workshop will email you with details of the shipment as soon as it has been dispatched, including tracking details.'

This also answers any questions one might have (see British made pens thread) about where the current C&S pens are made.

I don't mind having to wait when something's being made especially for me. They've also done an excellent job of keeping you informed, and are clearly keen to help if it's for an occasion. Kudos to them.

It's when sellers are offering stock they don't actually have, with lead times they cannot possibly fulfil, that I get just a teeny bit cross.

I fully agree.  I learned that good things are worth waiting for quite a long time ago.

What's the purply looking one to the right of it?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

hi Ruth

L-R: M800 tortoise, M600 GOG, M205 petrol marble, M101N blue-grey, 100 (I think it is a 1937, judging by the excellent thread about dating vintage)

Thanks!  And well, not....  Because now I want a vintage 100 even more and they're just too expensive for me....

Today's impulsive acquisition is much more in my price point.  No pix yet (I meant to take photos of it and several other recent acquisitions but have spent to much of today catching up on various threads), but I got some (apparently) no-name lever filler at an estate sale this morning.  Very pretty black and green flake (? marble) celluloid with an ink window between the section and barrel.  The steel nib says "DO-WRITE PENS" and then below, in smaller letters "MADE in U.S.A."  The nib and tipping seemed to be in decent shape at a cursory glance, and for a dollar I was willing to take a chance.   Small engraved initials on the cap: "D.C." (which I just now noticed -- guessing the former owner's initials).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

ETA: Even with the inevitable repairs, it will still set me back way less than a vintage 100 would (sigh...).

the 100 was given me several years ago by a friend who is a pen connoisseur. I didn’t know anything much about vintage Pelikan and am ashamed to admit I thought ‘why is he giving me an old pen with a discolored cap that is brown and doesn’t match the pen?’ I even thought the cap was transplanted from another pen!  I put it away and then rediscovered it a few years later when tidying stuff, and, curiosity piqued, I decided to see how it writes. Well, the nib was a revelation! I thought ‘wow, this nib is incredible’.  😲

It is now the pen I actually use the most as I carry it around with me, it is not ostentatious and doesn’t attract attention, quite the opposite rather dowdy and if anyone noticed they probably think it’s a worthless old pen. In fact even I thought it probably is not particularly valuable, and have never checked to see what they go for, so I was somewhat surprised that you alluded to it being remotely expensive. Now I feel even more ashamed for all that time I’d neglected it. 😔

ps. Please share pictures of your new acquisitions 🙂

I just impulse bought a sparkly vintage Peter Pan pen... I knew I shouldn't have looked into the sparkles. Sigh... one in one out rule I guess.

Definitely had no plans to do that…

A beautiful Sailor Pro Gear Slim Purple Cosmos.

What nib did you get on it?  I balked at the price on one for the longest time, but then when the red ones came out I wondered if there were any still out there (even as used pens) and got lucky -- Cult Pens in the UK had most of the nib sizes available.  Didn't realize there were still some to be had anywhere at this point, so congrats!

A Stipula Etruria Prism by Magma, ordered just now from stiloestile (stylus and style - so, fancy pens?) in Italy.

My second Pelikan after the petrol marbled M205. I couldn't decide which color I liked more, so now I have them both.
