What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

LOL, I know it's a hollow sounding phrase for the likes of us around here, but I only have 15 (well, now 16) pens to my name after all these years in the "hobby".

The only other pens on my wish list are a Leonardo Momento Zero Grande custom made in the old Omas Arco Brown material (which was going to cost 1,500.00 when I last inquired) and a Pelikan M800 green stripe with an IB nib.

I have decided the custom Momento Zero is just too much money and I can easily just buy a Pelikan IB nib for one of my current three Pelikans. So maybe it really WILL be my last pen...

Congrats on your new purchase. Looks nice -- no nib pics??!

Sounds like you’re very disciplined in your pen hobby!  If you added up all the pens you DIDN’T buy over the years, you’re probably way over the cost of the Leonardo 😜.... (living vicariously through your pen purchases here 👍)

here’s another pic of my new acquisition from the seller, can’t wait

Looks nice! Hope you enjoy it!

And I've thought it through and decided to go ahead and try to find a used Pelikan M800 Brown Black. I think I'd rather have that instead of a green M800. So I guess I'm not as DONE as I thought...but we'll see. Only a few sellers have them in stock for reasonable prices. I put a WTB ad in the classifieds...trying to avoid paying full price plus taxes, etc from a vendor.

I’d love a Pelikan m800... one of these days!   With all the awesome colors, would it be sacrilege to get one in basic black?  😉

Can never go wrong with classic black!

+1.

I suspect there is a reason why Pelikan makes gold-trimmed black versions of almost model they offer

Classic Black is what made me buy a black Pelikan M605.

Usually my pricier pens are vintage finds, but after six months of timid peering at Stresemanns, I stumbled across this one. 1997 is on it’s way towards Vintage… someday. That’s the only year they did a black 605. I think I sprained a finger buying it, I was so hurried. The Italic Broad made way for an Extra Fine for the picture.

Beautiful pen - enjoy it in good health.  My 805 is one of my favourites too.

I was wondering how you coaxed that line variation from an EF nib! :D

Pelikan did a black M605 (with a bi-coloured nib) as their LE in 2012.
I really wanted it, but couldn't afford it at the time 😢

To make things worse, the 2013 Pelikan LE pen was the M800 in Brown Tortoiseshell - for about £400 - which I also couldn't afford at the time. 😢 And now those go for well north of £1000 😢

Last year, as the pandemic was about to Take Hold here, I finally got the coin together to buy myself an M805 in boring basic black, and the vendor agreed to put a bi-colour nib on it for me 😊

I live in hope of getting a black M605, an M620 'Chicago', and the M800 Brown Tortoise. And I'm 'only' a Lottery win away! ;)😁

If it weren't for the section trim ring color, you could "build" a black M605 by purchasing two pens with the right trims and then swapping the pieces out. A black M600 and pretty much any other basic color M605. Swap the black caps, the black piston knobs and you'd have a black M605...except for that pesky section trim ring -- it would still be gold.

Although, with a bi-color nib, maybe that trim ring wouldn't look so out of place. A question of personal taste...

In concert with my brother, we impulsively ordered the Monteverde MVP pocket fountain pens. He got the green version, and I got the blue. Both of us chose the 1.1mm stub nibs. I chose blue because it reminded me of the Levenger True Writer Water Lilies pen I tried to buy on eBay that was out of stock.

Impulsive in the sense that I wasn't expecting to be able to buy it for a while .......

I received an email from Cult Pens this morning to say the Pelikan M1000 black/green was back in stock.  And of course, the 15% sale is still running ........ I don't think I've ever pressed the Buy button so quickly 😊

The one I ordered is now on its way to me, although sadly delivery is more likely to be Monday than tomorrow (Saturday).

Had to jump on it as soon as I got the email notice before they were sold out again...

Naughty me agreed to buy a used Platinum Chartres Blue 3776 B nib from a blogger I follow on Flickr. She offered a good price, in 3 payments, so I couldn’t resist.

P51- glad to have it, and it's been here for awhile. No pen purchases since.

My last impulse purchase was... a Pilot Capless Decimo! Just put in the order for it three days ago. It will be joining a Vanishing Point, Grance and a Metal Falcon to complete a quartet of Pilot gold-nibbed, brass-bodied, black lacquer and silver trim pens.

I'm two pens away from rounding off a 12-pen rotation and I'm trying to decide between sticking to Pilot or taking a dive into Sailor...

Life is but a dream.

I have only one Sailor in my entire collection (a red Realo), but somehow the collection would not be complete without it, and I do very much enjoy the pen. I do like Sailor nibs. So I guess that's one voice for Sailor... :)

You folks are such enablers.

I just ordered a Franklin-Christoph Model 45 XLV in Diamondcast Green with a HPS Broad Stub nib.

Guilty as charged.

To the thread topic, I just got a new Sarari in Umbra that I picked up on a whim, with an EF that writes almost like an XEF, and is amazingly smooth.

If I had to judge the quality of Lamy nibs on this one example, I would say you all out there who are complaining about Z52 nibs are totally nuts--however I also have a few others, and I note not all are buttery smooth (on the other hand I don't have any that I would call "bad" either).

This is my first matte-finished Safari, and I must say, I like it!
