What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Not working, though this is more a visual piece than anything (the great era of crazy celluloids!). The nib is in rough shape, which is in complete contrast to the rest of the exterior. Pencil works. I'll likely put in a nicer-looking nib and leave the sac out to preserve the white in the celluloid. I have plenty of pens to write with. ;)

Oh, and this was a basic eBay BIN purchase. I actually asked for a small accommodation from the seller and ended up only paying $20.00 for the set. I'm slowing way down on my pen purchases and have recently decided to do a small display of the colorful, lower-tier pens. I think that will be fun.

Thank you for the updated information. Again, it really looks quite nice.

As for me, I am waiting to hear about this year's Commonwealth Pen Show (go or no go) as a major influence in my immediate pen acquisition activity. I have had a booth there and usually spend much of any profits (as well as the replacement cost) from my sales on buying stuff at the show. I love the interaction with people and even the negotiating for pen purchases and sales. I expect to know soon.

Carola, I want to come back to this - I think you are correct. I originally - silly - thought it was simply a secondary eraser for use (and possible extra erasers. I replace the old one (for the moment, as it was worn out) with a piece of new eraser. I realized that the tube that holds it also had enough room for spare pencil leads, so I think you are right!

Very cool!

Probably paid too much for this beauty, but I really wanted a blue one 😜

these are the eBay photos, just got it in the mail and looks as good in person....the nib is really that long.  It’s a sheaffer TM (thin model) touchdown, just a bit shorter than a snorkel.  Open nib, no white dot (sovereign?), and no imprint on clip

Exactly how many inches long is that pen?
It looks more like a wand from Harry Potter lol....

I have no idea yet, planning to make a quick review once it arrives.

Total impulse this morning, especially as I was looking at something completely different, and somehow ended up buying a Karas Vertex (white delrin version) with a broad Ti nib that I'll doubtless end up italicising. Better still, it will be with me the day after tomorrow, which will be sooner than the inks I ordered today from about 50 miles away.

I can't remember why I haven't bought one sooner, because I've looked at them a number of times and always thought they looked great - and I hear such good things about their caps.  I just have to decide what silly colour it's going to get for its first fill :)

I received my first Leonardo MZG and my first Arco Bronze. Brand new, direct from Leonardo. A splurge but I felt I couldn't pass this up. I'm stunned. Absolutely beautiful and check out that big Broad nib! Now the question is what do I ink it with? I've narrowed it down to  Akkerman SBRE Brown or Diamine Ancient Copper.

Congratulations!  I have had good luck in my Copper MZG/stub with Ancient Copper, with no nib creep.  Enjoy.

Congratulations. It's a beautiful pen.

As for your ink choice, several years ago I had the Diamine Ancient Copper ink in several modern pens sequentially. It did creep and I also found that it seemed to leave some kind of "gunk/residue" on the feed. I stopped using it and gave the bottle away. Never heard back from the receiver.

Loved the color; hated the gunk! Please let us know YOUR results/experience. I might want to test it again.

Good writing with you new pen.

Thanks all. @GloucestermanI have also read of AC leaving gunky residue on some pens. I've only used in a cheap TWSBI. Haven't seen any issues but haven't had it in there for long. I did receive  a bottle of Leonardo Noce Moscato ink with  the pen so may consider that. I've also been tempted by the Stipula Sepia.

The "gunk" is not harmful, it's just annoying.  Apparently oranges and browns are more likely to get that sort of buildup -- something to do with the dye components, IIRC.  I had the same problem with a sample of Ancient Copper (that ink is sort of notorious for that).  I don't recall having that issue with Diamine Anniversary Terracotta, though, so you might want to look at that as a substitute.

My son is planning on sending a friend who writes a lot (but not with FPs) a Pilot Varsity.  He said it was a good fountain pen to start with.

I told him yes, the Varsity is a great gateway drug.

His response, "Only fountain pen people would think of a pen like a gateway drug," and implied I was mad.

I think this thread proves otherwise. ;)  Cheers!

My impulse purchases from before Christmas 2019 finally arrived! Two Franklin Christoph Pocket 66, in Antique Glass (SIG M steel nib) and Solid Ice (Masuyama Stub M steel nib). I had them shipped to a friend in the US who was planning to visit Switzerland in 2020. The Covid made it impossible. I didn't want to bother my friend with pen shipping among life's challenges in a pandemic. Finally everyone was ok and got a break, and my pens are here! Cool little guys and the nibs are very nice too.

Stock photo, but a Platinum 3776 Kaga Maki-e Sakura M nib, due to arrive sometime next week. Lots of firsts with this one -- first pen I spent more than $40 on, first Platinum, first gold nib, and first maki-e.

I had planned to wait until I could get to a pen show to perhaps try one in person to see if I liked the 3776 and figure out if I'd prefer an M nib or a B (my current favorite nib is the Pilot CM) but too much window shopping led to me breaking down and just buying it (after all, it's only money, right?)

And my other impulse pen from earlier in the week (so it too hasn't yet arrived) is a Lamy Safari in Neon Lime (F nib). I can't say I *LOVE* the Safari (I have a charcoal one with an F nib; it's ok but nothing to write home about - I like my Metropolitans MUCH more), but something about the color spoke to me and made it a "must have".

What a lovely pen!  Too bad urushi and I don't get along....  Of course, early on I found some website chockfull of absolutely drop-dead gorgeous maki-e pens, and told my husband "Look dear!  I just saved you twenty THOUSAND dollars...." (the Philistine did NOT truly appreciate my self-sacrifice... :glare:; oh, and BTW, that was 20K per PEN.... :yikes:
