My last impulse buy is Bo Bo Olsons' fault. I found two pens very similar to his Rusewe Spezial and couldn't resist.

In fact, they probably are Austrian Rusewe pens from the 1950s, too. The inscription on the cap says "Jez" and they probably belong to a batch produced by Rusewe to someone's special order. They even share the striped ink window and the golden Bock nibs with the "Rusewe" marked pens.

Those are very attractive pens!

What color is that ink on your hand?

A tiny green Merlina. I have such a soft spot for these lovely little pens, and it will make Mr Merlin look big and hunky so he'll be happy too :)

Fountain Pen Revolution just got some Airmail 71 JT pens back in stock. I clicked the button on a green-capped one.

It's currently sloshing full of Noodler's Ink Purple Heart, and it is fun.

Well, I'm going to get up at 0 dark 30 tomorrow morning for an estate sale....  Pens weren't actually listed, but there were some photos (this is the same company that ran the sale a few years ago where I got that Forest Green 51 Aerometric for two bucks...).

Stay tuned....

Oh Goodness! Those are beautiful - there's nothing better to put a murky green ink into than a murky green pen!!

Thank you. I have yet to decide which green it will be. I inked up the slim one (with the broader flexy nib) with Herbin Vert Olive and the broader one (with the fine to medium more rigid nib) with Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün. Both inks match the colour of the pen nicely. I also have a bottle of Sailor Manyo Ukikusa waiting on my desk to be tested and in some drawer there is a bottle of Diamine British Racing Green, so the decision is still pending.

I´ll keep the slim one for myself and give the other one to my best friend, who enjoys fine nibs a lot, as a birthday present. Both pens write nicely and I am really happy to have stumbled upon them. Love the colour and yayyy... stripes! 😁

My hand is the one in the second picture. The ink stained hand belongs to my pen repair guy and knowing him I would bet those stains are the remnants of Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue... although I have to admit the colour looks somewhat turquoise. But every time I´ve seen him in person, he had his hands abundantly stained with Royal Blue. 🤷‍♀️

Over a span of a week it was a Lamy Al-Star Turmaline with ink, a Narwhal Peter Draws pen from Goldspot and finally a Pilot Custom 823 Amber with the broad nib. Next month it is inks but for the bottles this time.

thank you(*・ω・)ノ I generally like the montblanc skeleton series especially the 75th anniversary yellow gold and the 90th anniversary ruthenium skeleton since they share similar design. However, the 75th is now so out of reach a collector trying to sell it for 88000usd in eBay.

Thank you, this is a pen with the potential to put a stop on my pen search for many reasons. But since I am a fountain pen collector from heart, sooner or later may be in a few years time I might find myself another excuse to buy another fountain pen which I guess many might experience the same in this forum.
Hobby is giving me a reason to work even harder.

Well, I'm back from the estate sale.  And from breakfast at the closest location of a local chain of diners, and from stopping at the grocery store pharmacy to see if the called in prescription for my husband is ready (it isn't :( -- it's on the truck and I'll have to go back out sometime in the mid to late afternoon...).

And um, it's been an interesting morning.  Woke up way earlier than planned, so ended up getting on the road around 4 AM.  Got to where the sale was around 4:30 or so....  First time in my life I actually got to one before the estate sale people did :o -- and the scary part was that I *wasn't* the first person in line, even then!

The main thing I went to look at was a blue Wahl Eversharp Skyline.  Which a sumgai about six or eight people in line BEHIND me found first , but he did let me see it (he said it was a lady's pen and that there was something missing from off the cap or finial).  Now, I'll admit that I don't really like the Art Deco styling on Skylines, but it was a pretty color.  The guy did leave a couple of Sheaffer school pens (I got a green one with a stainless steel F nib for a buck).  And I found something in a box in the basement that he didn't get to....

The second pen is something of an oddity.  I thought it was a Parker 45 (it has the style of one, and a dead Quink "Tap it Tank" cartridge installed).  But when I got home and looked a bit more carefully, it *doesn't* have a Parker imprint anywhere on the barrel -- and the cap says "Eversharp" (with a clip with the "E" up at the top, rather than a Parker arrow clip) but also, above the "MADE IN USA" imprint, has the Parker logo....  So what do I actually have?  An Eversharp, or a Parker 45?  Sorry, no pix yet.  I have to figure out how to port photos from my phone to the new laptop -- which is going to like involve Yet Another™ Apple Support call... (this will be I think the fourth one already, and I've only had the stupid thing for 3 weeks :wallbash:).  It also has some business imprint on it: "CONSOLIDATION COAL CO."  The nib is marked on the nib assembly as being a medium; can't tell until I get it apart (which I suspect will involve some soaking) to see if it's 14K or gold plated.

So, the Sheaffer was "well, it's only a buck -- so not a completely wasted 2-1/2 hours standing freezing my butt".  The 45/Eversharp/frankenpen didn't cost me a dime -- I told the cashier that I'd found it the the box in the basement and she told me that it was a dollar *total*! :bunny01: (You could also say the pens were 50¢ US apiece, but I prefer to think of it as $1 for the Sheaffer (the dresser top where the Sheaffers, some BPs, and I think where the Skyline had been had a piece of masking tape on it saying the pens were $1 and $3, IIRC) and "FREE" for the other pen....  Or, 1/15th what I then paid for breakfast, including the substantial tip for the as usual awesome food and coffee -- and usual great service -- at the closest location of that diner chain to where the estate sale was....

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

ETA: And now I'm off to the usual suspects' websites (Richard Binder's and Tony Fischier's) to see if I can get more info on the wacky Parker/Eversharp....

I was at an estate sale today also, but not the first in line at 10am opening. All junk and no pens of any consequence. I’m really striking out lately at these sales.

Is there a website in your area that lists weekly estate sales?  There is around here and nearly all the companies that post listings will have photos at least on Facebook, if not on their website.  The site I go to also has a link that takes you directly to each listings' photos.  It saves me a lot of wear and tear by scoping out the listings (and photos) ahead of time, so I know what sales there's no point in me going to.  Pens aren't necessarily listed but there are often photos -- at least of what MIGHT be a pen worth looking at (in today's case one turned out to be some sort of inkograph style pen), and the various companies will say something like "and much much more!" or "still unboxing!" in their listing for that particular sale.

For today/tomorrow I think there were nearly a dozen listings (some companies will run multiple sales the same weekend).  And only the one I went to even showed any pens in the photos (and didn't particularly mention them, even though sometimes that company is better about it than others).

Yep. My wife and I look at both of the sites that advertise estate  sales. Problem is, very few sales these days are advertising fountain pens. Normally I just hope for the best when I see an office or desk. What makes me sad is that I am betting either the family or these companies probably toss out more than one 51, thinking it is a junk pen. God only knows what else they toss out.

That's why looking at the photos whenever possible is so important.  There's one company around here who never posts photos, and they tend to do estate sales in higher end neighborhoods, and I've pretty much given up on even bothering to read the text list of items -- I don't think I've ever found anything I wanted to buy (pen wise or otherwise).  And that place tends to make you take your shoes off because they invariably are at houses with white wall-to-wall carpeting besides.... :o

If I was trying to buy high-end jewelry or art, there might be a reason to go to that company's sales.  But odds are good that even if I wanted to buy used clothing I wouldn't find anything that fit me (and of course at the moment I can't even try on NEW clothing in stores, unless it's something like a cardigan sweater...).
