I only picked up this "DC Supershow" ink because it's the only one I have ever seen with my two eyes.

Many of the Monteverde inks have impressed me, but it isn't a slam dunk. When at the LA Pen Show in Feb/20 (probably the last live show in the US pre-pandemic), I wanted to ink up a pen that I had purchased on the first day. One of the vendors had specials on the Pen Show inks (maybe $5?) and I picked up both Detman's LE Burgundy, as well as the previous year's DCSS Blue. I wanted to try the blue and it really is a very good blue, especially if you like super-saturation and a fair bit of sheen. The burgundy was not a good player for me, with hesitant flow and a meh appearance. Then again, I have a few burgundy inks that already do a good job.

And we've gone way off of impulse purchasing, haven't we?

Looks like that’s it!  I think mine might have a different nib, but that’s the first photo of “my” pen I’ve seen, thanks for the assist!!

If the pen has 244g on it then it is a 244g

You guys had me worried. It isn't actually that big, in terms of either length or girth, at least from what my eyeballs and my writing hand tell me.

It's lovely. I particularly like it that it's dark at the front (where the clip is when the pen is capped), almost as dark at the back, but almost luminescent on both sides.

With such high quality body material, excellent fit and finish, and a steel EF nib that suits my tastes* and exceed my expectations, I think the Collier surpasses the Leonardo Momento Zero and Furore in every way at around the same price point, and hope Edison Pen Co. eats Leonardo Officina Italiana's lunch, and deals the latter some body blows in the market so that Leonardo has to pick up its act to have a hope of competing after it finished reeling from the hits it took.

* The EF nib on my Edison Collier is finer than some of my Japanese EF nibs, very precise, and has more feedback — akin to writing with a 4H pencil — than most of my Sailor and Platinum nibs, so I take it not everyone else will enjoy using it as much as I do.

 I didn't actually say huge! it is among larger pens. As I mentioned however it's well designed and falls well in the hand despite size.

The big plus with FC as you have discovered is that they finetune their nibs so they do come out remarkably better than average, even stock nibs.

Their grinds are also really good. I have one of their medium stubs (0,7 mm ) ground by Masuyama that is really smooth and very pleasant to use.

Faber-Castell, or Franklin-Christoph? I don't have any pens of the latter brand, and am not inclined to buy any when they're not readily sold through online retailers domiciled outside of the US, as far as I'm aware. I thought we were talking about the Edison Collier; or at least I was.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Got it mixed up sorry ASD, the Collier is Edison, you're right.
I was thinking of Franklin-Christoph...

no, of course Franklin-Christoph,

OK … but then I don't see how it would be “as [ I ] have discovered”. My Fine Writing International Planet series: Mercury pen also sports a JoWo-manufactured steel EF nib bearing FWI's custom scrollwork, and it also writes very finely and precisely.

I don't know anything about stock JoWo nibs (or Goulet nibs, for that matter), and have no intention of finding out for the sake of discussion, or even just in the name of curiosity and geekery since there isn't a good reason for me to buy them as standalone retail items.

no, since I got it mixed up... the whole thought is astray...

That said still I think also Edison test their nibs... my Edisons also are very nice writers (I own the Collier too)

Both Edison and Frankiln Christoph use Jowo.

I own several stock Jowo nibs, for example on Ranga pens.

My impression is that the performance out of the box of both Edison and Frankiln Christoph nibs is better. I believe they are tested/tuned.

I think there is also reference about this in some earlier threads about these two brands.

I had forgotten that the Monteverde inks are in the Dry category...thank you for the reminder.
Before today, I only owned Monteverde - Malachite...and for about 5 seconds, Jade Noir....ugh...that was a horrid experience.

Well, I kinda think they are a bit like Noodlers: yes, it is a brand of ink, but there are different behaviors. I can say that the blue one, DCSS, is very much NOT dry, and is a very nice flowing ink. It also might have been the pen I tried? If an ink doesn't really work well, I put it away and come back to it some day in another pen or two. if it doesn't delight me after a few tries, it's toast. You've got a nice selection, have fun!

It's funny, I have quite a few of the 'special' 9 series nibs, but I think my favourite remains a 2668 that came with a dubonnet SJ and has stayed there.

My favorite is the 2442 (fine stub), which is on my Copper SJ. The green one has a 9788 (flexible medium), nice nib. I probably will use the 9314F (relief fine stub) with the black one. But yes, the 2668 is quite nice. I have a fine nib, 2556, which writes like a rusted needle. Terrible. I guess I should adjust it a bit and see what happens.

I have 2556s that write like a dream.  Perhaps the tines are misaligned.  If you use an abrasive, keep in mind that the untipped 2XXX nibs wear down much faster than the 9XXX series nibs.

I looked at the nib with a magnifying glass and the tines are too far apart, but very tight at the tip. No wonder there are inflow issues. I don't think I will have to do any "grinding".

Franklin-Christoph had an online pen show and a model 19 went into the basket. The pen show was all special editions of models with only 15 available of each at 11am EST and another 15 at I think 11PM EST. Most pen models sold out in a about 10min.

Ok no more pens this month! This is the one I got coming.

And I was going to be so strong. I got the email and was determined to ignore it. And I did. Then you went and posted this, and I had to go and just have a little peep for the second round. Where I snagged a 20 Marietta, which I have been coveting for ages. And I went all spring-like too!

Interesting... sounds like it's bowed a little bit, perhaps?  Flow issues could also be the feed.  If you're able to slip a piece of paper between the nib and the feed, it might be too far apart and in need of heat-setting.

Congrats. I love the model 20 both in the Marietta and pocket version and yours will be very unique.

Good tip. I’ll check it out tomorrow.

This one is gorgeous, and I was very tempted - but the “show” process doesn’t leave one with much time to think, does it?  Most of the pens were sold out in the first minute or two, some in seconds.  I feel lucky to have gotten anything at all!

Yeah, i unintentionally used the 11 am release as the looking period--as I identified the two i wanted (both sold out when I decided I wanted them).  And then used the 10 pm release as the acquisition period--getting one of the two.  I got the model 46 blue-gold.  First clip-less pen for me.

That was my backup choice if I hadn't got the marietta - and only because it's so similar in colour to another recent acquisition - I thought the blue-gold was stunning, as was the Brooks southwestern. Congrats on getting one.

I love clipless pens, and tend to choose not to have a clip if I can.
