I've heard it's beautiful--hope you'll post pictures when it gets there!

I will. In the meantime there was already a post from another member who received this pen...

I think I will likely be adding a Narwhal Schuylkill to this thread, but I'm thinking about colors and nib-sizes.  Anyone want to talk me into or out of it?  The Rockfish Red could replace my long lost Burgundy MB.  ;)

Hi all,

I've decided to stop buying pens for Lent this season; so, last night, I purchased a NOS Sheaffer Triumph Imperial set in gold... and a matching mechanical pencil.

I got a notice that a pen I'd been watching on the Bay of Evil had been relisted.  So I logged into my account, put it back on the watch list, and then cleared out some things that had sold.  But then I looked at a few other things and discovered that someone had listed a French Blue Lamy Safari for way less than I'd seen them going for.  This one is used, not NOS, and apparently has some bite marks on the barrel.  But it was a GREAT price -- and better yet, the seller said "Make me an offer".  So I did, and the seller made a counteroffer and I decided it wasn't worth my time to try and haggle further.  And I think it already has a converter installed.  So a rare color for less than the standard price of the LX, including tax and shipping!

Did I need another "Safari family" pen with an F nib?  Probably not.  But I can always swap the nib out for not a huge amount of money.  And I've wanted a French Blue ever since I first saw one -- I just kept balking at prices higher than that of most of the Parker 51s I have.  So, I'll put up with the bite marks. B)

Ordered late Monday afternoon and delivered from Spain to the UK by FedEx at 10.00 yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

I feel as though I should apologise for the overload of pics, especially as they were only taken with the iPhone, but this pen is so much more beautiful than I expected from the stock photos that I wanted to try to show it off a bit.  The nib is a broad, the ink is Iroshizuku fuyu-gaki, and the whole writing experience is as close to perfect as it could get.  This was something of a grail for me - even with a reasonable discount I paid more for it than any other pen I own - and it was honestly worth every penny.

An attractive material--probably smells just as bad as the others when it is new, though... 😛

no, I can confirm it does not smell at all, not even when new

Hi, Ruth! Thank you for the advice about the Decimo. I have looked at the Decimo so many times, and I have an open offfer from my husband to buy me one but I have not yet found the color for me.  We do have a VP, the stormtrooper one which is inexpicably not available in Asia.

As for today's impulsive purchase, this MB 224 I'd been eyeing went on sale a few days ago from a local seller. I was floored by its similarities to the Lamy 2000.

Have you looked at the Pilot Decimo?  Those are smaller and lighter (and also less expensive) than the full size Vanishing Points (I had the same problem with VPs as you) -- I have small hands and the Decimos are a much better size for me, and take the same nib assembly as the VPs [well, in theory anyway -- I had bought a used VP, gave it to my husband, and then ordered a Decimo with an EF nib to swap out for the F nib which he didn't like; I did have some problems with the pen drying out, took it back to the guy I ordered it through and he had someone grind the shoulders down a little for me...  then promptly lost it and had to get a replacement].  I have two of them now -- one with an F nib and one with a stub nib.  The only real complaint I have with them is that they don't come in nearly as many colors and finishes (except for the occasional super-expensive limited edition ones) -- and for some reason, they don't sell all the colors in the US (when I first looked into them, I had to order from a 3rd party vendor in Japan to get the Light Grey after losing the first one -- my first choice (they now do sell the Dark Blue/Navy here).  I even contacted Pilot USA about it and got told that it was "a marketing decision".  So it was their loss: I saved money (even with economy airmail shipping), got exactly what I wanted, and it came in 11 days.

So many pretty modern pens:thumbup:.............to bad, one needs a nib meister or someone who knows themselves how to put a better vintage nib on them.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The cheapest lessons are from those who learned expensive lessons. Ignorance is best for learning expensive lessons.

This Ranga Abhimanyu was not in my plans at all. When I saw the resin I was struck by it's beauty and had to get it.

I just saw a video on this brand, and it linked to the website....wow!  Really beautiful pens!!

yes, I'm very fond of Ranga and consider it worthwhile to own at least one of their pens. They are still made with traditional methods and since there are so many options in materials, colours, finishes, most of the time you end up with a pen that is unique. Mid range pens, which perform well, at reasonable prices too. You can also check the pay it forward section here, they've run a number of group buys, you can still see many of their pens in the threads.

About 20 minutes ago, I made the mistake of being on the forums and had Goulet Pen Co. open in another tab and...it happened. I swear it wasn't me, not consciously, anyway. Like automatic writing, but in this case, it was automatic clicking (and putting in payment info--could happen to anyone!).

Anyway, a Pelikan M600 Tortiseshell Red will be on its way to me. I apparently have a weakness for red Pelikans!
