Just received three EF-nibbed Faber-Castell Essentio pens in different colours, which I added to my order of the Aurora 8"88" Giove to pad it and make it eligible for 'free' shipping to Australia. It looks like my order of two Moonman M800 pens will arrive tomorrow as well at long last. Then there's my third Kaigelu 316 that I received last week but haven't flushed and cleaned yet. (There was no box supplied, so 'unboxing' is not applicable.)

Hmmm, which one to ink first?

I am disappointed with my Decimo. _...‹snip›... The metal is so slippery that I can't even write one sentence without my fingers slipping down the body towards the nib, no matter how I hold the pen.

I don't enjoy using the Pilot Capless Décimo pens myself, and so my wife ended up with both of ours (picked up waaay cheap on clearance in a bricks-and-mortar store unexpectedly). I also don't really like using the Pilot Capless Vanishing Point pens that have the slick lacquered finish, either; and while I'm prepared to tolerate it on the Raden models (which I rarely write with these days anyway), such models as the 2012 Limited Edition just don't get used, and I had to refrain from buying the 2019 L.E. which is essentially the same thing in a different colour, no matter how pretty. However, if you like — or can at least deal with — the thicker body of the Vanishing Point, at least they come in a variety of textured finishes, such as the matte black and matte blue models, the (resin-impregnated) wooden ones, the 'carbonesque' ones, and the 2020 L.E. that sports a guilloche pattern (just as the 2016 L.E. did).

I've read the zoom is smoother and juicier and much broader, so here's to hoping so.

I only have a Sailor Proske (which is a Profit Standard demonstrator, by any other name) with a medium-sized 14K gold Zoom nib, and no pen with a large-sized 21K gold Zoom nib, so I can't say for sure, but the line width on the page really depends on the incident angle between pen and paper, and with how I usually hold my pen to write, (thankfully) I get the equivalent of a Fine line out of it in normal nib orientation.

So after the disappointment of the Decimo, I have purchased the Sailor 1911L Simply Black with a zoom nib. I owned a Sailor Pro Gear Slim with a broad nib at one point and the nib was not at all what I was expecting. Thin and scratchy if not held at the exactly correct angle. I've read the zoom is smoother and juicier and much broader, so here's to hoping so. Ordered from Cult Pens with an additional 10% off for being in the USA.

The Zoom nib is broad IF the pen is held fairly flat! The higher the angle of the pen, the narrower the line put down. That's the whole "point" of the Zoom nib.

A Lamy 2000 is enroute. Sort of a semi impulse purchase though it is supposed to be part of my Christmas.... I couldn't figure out what that might be. Then saw the Endless Pens Black Friday sale......

I just bought my very first Ranga and it is so lovely to use. Smooth as butter and I do so love Ebonite.

Hi all,

This new format is going to take some getting used to. Over the past few weeks, I have bought several new pens, but just this evening, I purchased two Watermans from Amazon - a black and gold Expert with a medium nib for $50 and a Carene with a fine nib in Shimmer Amber (or is it Marine Amber) for $114.

I couldn't resist at those prices.  😁

Hi Runnin Ute,

Yes, that was a great sale; for $99, I was very tempted to get another 2000 - I just got my first one a few weeks ago, but when I came across a palladium Dialog 3 for only $169, I couldn't resist.  🥳

@ DrDebG -- That is one sharp looking pen.

Hmm.  I don't actually have a lot of RED pens, other than a couple of vintage Esterbrook J pens.  Burgundy, yes, a fair number; plus a couple of pink ones. But actual red?  Not so many....

I lost a Nakaya Piccolo Cigar, kuro-tamenuri (UEF -- gleaned from a Platinum 3776) nearly two years ago. At the time, I had no intention of replacing it. Nope! It was a careless loss -- my favorite pen -- too bad. "Accept loss forever," I said, quoting Kerouac (as I often do -- quote that particular nugget).

But... I missed that pen. It was an "EDC." For whatever reason, I insisted on having a kuro Piccolo at hand for always. The unpolished shu tried to fit that role, but nope. KURO-TAMENURI, my inner Veruca Salt bellowed. I'd had it for about two years, kept dropping it to the pavement in ridiculous ways. Should have known it was a runner.

So, nearly mid-way into September, I ordered another one, this one with my name in kanji on it. If I lose it again, at least if it ever surfaced, I'd be able to say, "Hey, that's my pen that I lost." But, actually, I'd regretted not personalizing the one that got away.

I prepared to wait forever (cos 1) Nakaya manufacture and personalization time and 2) shipping during pandemic time) -- but I was able to pick it up from the post office on Thursday.

Big sigh of relief. Yeeeees. Okay. Done. Closure. Hahaha.

An Orange-marble M320 and an M400 Brown Tortoise (the 2016 LE), first new pens since the end of last year. I'd say the M320 is probably the more impulsive of the two; they don't appear very often (and this was listed as NOS) and as the price wasn't really outrageous (more than the Tortoise, of course), I went for it. The Tortoise was new in the box and such a bargain (I usually see them for around what I paid for the M320), I couldn't resist. I suppose that's Christmas sorted.

I received this during the downtime:

In proper green.

I don't know if it counts as an 'impulse' buy - I was hmming and hawing on ebay for a while before it showed up - but even after transatlantic shipping, import duties, and a generous offer from another buyer, it was still about half the cost of similar sets. It got snapped up quick.

In excellent condition as far as I'm able to tell. The pen writes very nicely after just a flush and a fill, but for some reason, I'm more taken with the pencil.

Wancher sent out a discount code due to the Seven Treasures shipping date being pushed to next year.  So I used the code for my first Urushi, a Blue True Urushi.

I wasn't quite quick enough and missed out on a BB. Settled for a fine.

So sad to report that the Karas Kustom pen did not work out.  The nib and I just didn't get along.  But the Karas Kustom people gave great customer service.

So, I ended up doing the one thing I generally don't do . . . I bought a pen on an auction site that I generally choose not to frequent.  I was purchasing Christmas ornaments and thought I might check out fountain pen offerings.  I found a lovely Visconti Michaelangelo.  It should be here in a few days, so I will let you know my thoughts then.
