I had to look the Estie up, but that is a lovely pen! Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to it and hoping most heartily that it isn't India ink (shudder).

ETA: I just saw your picture in the other thread--absolutely lovely.

Yeah, vintage Esterbrooks are really decent pens once they're up and running.  And the nice thing about them is that Esterbrook made a HUGE range of nibs -- and in different levels as well.  Even the 1xxx series nibs, which have fold-over nibs with no tipping, write nicely (at least the two that have the 1555 Gregg nibs do -- those are the only ones I've gotten restored so far.  Plus, the nib units are easily interchangeable -- they just screw in and out of the section.

And most of mine I didn't pay a lot for them, (I think the most was for a black LJ that I picked up at the last minute at an early pen show I went to -- the seller dropped the price a bit because that way he didn't have one more thing to pack up on a Sunday morning).  Mind you, I haven't gotten most of them repaired yet -- other pens kept cutting the line....

But as for this new one?  Even if I don't get it repaired next weekend at B/W, at least I can find out whether sticking the nib unit in Rapid-O-Eze will be a good idea or not.  (I'm a little concerned that there might also be that black whatever gunk on the section, though -- as well as the nib and feed...).

This is only a guess because the description of the pen itself says nothing, but their site has leather pen rolls and the color selection ("rust red", for example) matches the color options you're given for that item. Perhaps they include one with the purchase? (Also the Dark Cherry pen is very attractive.)

Yes it is, but I always wanted a car in British racing green and this is probably as close as I will ever come! So I am ordering the green one.

If I could I would get all three! I like all three colors.

The old Ogiva's dissembled easily... this is how mine came apart...

I don't understand. Why would I want to take it apart?

Your reply reminded me of what became an often repeated saying when my sons were growing up -- 'Just because you can doesn't mean you should.'

Which then reminded me of overhearing one of women on the basketball team I coached in the early 1990s tell a plus size teammate that, 'Wearing Spandex is a privilege and not a right.'

I bought a Hongdian A9 in blue moire with a fine nib. It’s a way bigger pen than is normal for me, but the material is so pretty and I wanted a modern pen with an ebonite feed for those sheeny, saturated inks.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of16 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Parker 45 Deluxe M, Lamy Turmaline

Unknown Chinese Maker A-108 Acrylic Pen M, Diamine Dusted Truffle

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

Saturday, while perusing ebay, I came across a new M700 Toledo (F) for a very reasonable price. I've always kind of wanted one and I added it to my watch list. Yesterday the seller sent me a discount offer. It's now officially the most I've spent on a single pen. Thank FSM I can afford it.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Me, too. BB nib here instead of an F, but that´s not the point. The pen is gorgeous.

For me, yes. For a now fellow Toledo owner who obviously has a tender spot for F nibs, not so much.

Love the moire effect, but that blue! That's *very* nice!

I have a Hongdian--red rabbit in honor of our house-bun that died last year--but haven't flushed it yet to ink it and try it. I expect pretty nice things based on the reviews on the medium "long knife" nib. Kind of excited to see how it feels.

(still admiring the blue...)

Came across a couple of my old Lamy medium point Safaris, so I ordered a pair of fine points - one a yellow safari and the other a ruthenium LX fountain pen. Want a couple of somewhat inexpensive day to day pens. Figured the yellow one would really stand out.

My Asvine P20 arrived today. I inked it up with a wee vial whose origins are long forgotten, and that had evaporated to about 1/3 of the quantity. Reconstituted with a little water, and the pen is a gorgeous writer, smooth and luscious. Love it!

I got the orange/amber and the chatoyance is rich and beautiful. My only modification would be to dull down the Greek key in the band with a matte finish - a satin or frost texture.

Of course I can live with it as-is, but I'd be interested in seeing how the pen would look with this aesthetic adjustment. It's so inexpensive, I've really nothing to lose. Any suggestions?

Kind of an impulse since I noticed this Burgundy Sheaffer Tip-Dip was still there after a year (once talked with the stall owner, and even mentioned the correct model name, but guess wasn't important enough to change it). Decided to go ahead and get it since didn't seem like any corrosion set in. Got it home and got it restored with in an hour. Did have to use the ultrasonic cleaner for the decades old dried up ink.

At the London Pen Show I ordered a new Onoto Prospero fitted with a plunger filler instead of the normal c/c

It is such a beautiful livery. Can't wait to receive it
