My little heart deflated a little when I opened the Pelikan M200 EF in copper rose gold. I found it so underwhelming, I was really disappointed. Back it goes, back to the nest it thought it had flown, back to the bits of shattered eggshell and crumpled straw. I’m surprised to discover that I’d far prefer the TWSBI white and rose gold! I’ll look around to see if I can find a similar style in another brand, but I might be pulling the trigger on a TWSBI purchase next week.

You were disappointed? I thought it looked very much like the pictures when I saw it in person, so the looks can't have been much of a surprise. 🤔

But as I am not a fan of the white Pelikans at all, well... I know the feeling.

I think it was because the barrel section didn’t have as much of a copper glow as I was expecting, it felt quite dull and flat to me in person.

Second buy of 2025. I just ordered a Delta Duna in Regal Skies which is an Atlas limited edition of 150 pieces using McKenzie Pen works acrylic. With the Atlas exclusive sale it was only $126. Enclosed is a pic from Atlas.

This pink Platinum Preppy Wa with 03 nib, brand new for AUD $5.99, which ended my never-pledged, de facto “no buy” that made it through all of January 2025.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Here they are. Three pens I ordered this week, plus my old Pelikan M400 white tortoiseshell, just because they make a nice group. 🙃

I particularly love the Pelikan M605, but I’m delighted with the Sailors as well. They’re very sweet pens.

There’s been something of a volte-face this week. I’ve gone from “no, not very keen on plastic pens really, and Pelikans are usually always so dark and heavy-looking” to this

How does this write? They all look beautiful, but I have heard they are a bit scratchy.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the Robert Oster Earth if you try it and want to comment. It's on my shortlst of inks of interest.

Will work for pens...

I just ordered this beauty yesterday with a broad Cypress steel nib. I’m debating between a Bock 14k music nib or a BB platinum or palladium 23k Bock ground to a curved arch from fpnibs.com to pair with it. I’ll decide on the replacement nib after writing with the pen for a few weeks.

The pen is the Cypress Kawari-Nuri Twining Golden Blue Flat Top. I wanted to try out the brand with one of their mid-end lacquer over ebonite offerings before going nuts on all of the great looking designs they have.

Based on my personal experience and usage, these pens are not scratchy at all. However, I should note that I refrain from using European ink brands, as they tend to be slightly more viscous compared to their Japanese counterparts. Furthermore, I have been utilising fountain pens since my early primary school years and have accumulated extensive experience with various fountain pen makes and nib types.
