Pilot custom 845. first reason, I heard almost 845 pen's price will be risen as soon. so I bought at 375$. Second reason, 845's red color with urushi lacquer was so fascinated.

I bought the last available Sailor Mini PGS Rockhopper Penguin by the skin of my teeth today

Congratulations!

I relented and finally bought this limited edition Faber-Castell Loom fountain pen and ink gift set today:

after having tossed it out of my shopping cart at checkout time so many times in the past few months. I think the matt gunmetal Loom I have is fine and performs decently, although I prefer the Faber-Castell Essentio Aluminium fountain pens to it any day. This colour combination is nice, though; although in the review photos added by customers against the item listing, I have to question how red it is compared to the matt gunmetal, when in some of the photos I can hardly see any difference. I also think this limited edition cost too much for what it is, … but what the hell.

As well, I bought a couple of Admok J400 pens — one fitted with a Chinese nib (which I assume is Admok branded), and the other has no nib as supplied but is tapped for Pelikan M20x/M40x nib units.

Pilot's most recent round of retail price increases were effective 1 October 2024.

I thinks that matt color adds elegance. I curious the real thing

acutally I bought admok and asvine pens at Chinese online shop. It was so satisfied.

and recently I bought Chinese urushi pen at that shop. and It was wonderful. I hope to introduce this pen afterwards

I don't know whether I should consider my latest pen purchase impulsive or not.  I was in Houston at a conference and visited the Mont Blanc store where I saw some of their pens dedicated to Jane Austen.  Sadly, they were not more style (nor in a budget I wanted to spend).  But the MB sales clerk did talk to me about Dromgoole's and I visited the website before going to the store.  On their website I saw that one of the new arrivals was a Retro 51 Pride and Prejudice pen (my favorite JA novel, quite possibly my favorite novel regardless of author).  The price point was also far more palatable to me.  So once my conference was over I swung over to Dromgoole's and came home with the Retro 51 Pride & Prejudice, though I need to wait until my anniversary or Christmas or sometime that my spouse decides to give it to me.

While there, however, I ended up looking for a first fountain pen for a 10-year old that wanted a quiet pen.  The TWSBI was quite quiet, but I was not about to do a piston-filler for a first FP for a kid, and after trying out several different pens, a silver Faber-Castell Hexo M nib on Rhodia paper was the winner.

The MB Jane Austen one or the Retro 51 Pride & Prejudice one?

If the MB, there were some nice details, but it didn't feel like a 4-figure pen to me.  In person the cap is more of a union blue kind of color, even though in pictures it often seems to appear more grayish.  Then pen seemed to be of moderate weight, neither super heavy or super light.  Frankly, there was nothing overly memorable about it.

If the P&P, I only held it very briefly as I was literally waiting for the UPS truck to arrive to the store with the delivery (I'm technically awaiting being giving it as a gift...i just made sure that the nib worked well with a quick dip sample at the store). But it is definitely has some heft to it, but from my recollections, the diameter of the pen/grip is narrower than the MB Jane Austen.  If I didn't know anything about FP branding, the P&P pen would have seemed like it was a more expensive pen than the MB Jane Austen one.

Hope that helps, but if you have any other @Misfit let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

@Janeite most sorry I forgot to ask about the specific brand. I meant the Retro 51. I’m trying to stop buying pens for awhile, but that one is so tempting. I love that book too.

Two impulse buys today. A Majohn P139 in white with the #8 nib. I know it's styled off the MB Hemingway which I'm never going to have, but it's such a classic look so worth $50 to dream about the MB. The other pen is the Waterman Expert L'Essence du Bleu with a fine nib. When amazon hit $101 on it, the stylish looks and reviews saying it's a real workhorse of a pen made me hit buy. It's only a 2 year run that started in 2022 so the series is going to dry up soon. If I like it I might go back for the Carene which is cheeper than the standard models right now. I was tempted to get the more expensive pens but some people have had drying out issues with that model as well as ink coming out the breather hole sometimes on uncapping. The inset nib is so nice looking.

Laguna Niguel, California.

A Montblanc 644N with OBB nib. And now I really should delete my password for my eBay account and never look at it again.
