Gee....now I might have to get one of those.

I'm such a sucker for a big nib...

My only current larger nibs are on my MB 149 and Sailor KOP and I love them. I used to have a Namiki Emperor #50 and actually didn't care for it. In any case I ordered the A9 in blue with a F nib. So thanks for costing me $20 ;)

A Pelikan M101 Originals of their Time 1935 Lapis Blue, with a stiff M nib, in mint condition, complete with box and papers, arrived at my doorstep today.

I don't even like the Pelikan 100 pens because of their "hacked off" rear end. Give me a 100N and I am happy. I have to admit, this one is a handsome pen (as long as I can ignore the flat end). It was practically shoved into my hands with a "Please take it!" and at a price I would have been an idiot to say no to.

I... err... well, I don't fully understand how this could happen, but it's mine now. 🤷‍♀️

Oh wow! Those are exceedingly beautiful pens and while I also prefer the shape of the 100N, I would dearly love to even handle one of those Originals of Their Times models let alone own one. Congratulation!

I got mine in. It's solidly built and writes easily. I like the moire pattern on the body and the dark (not fully black) trim. I filled it with Diamine Steel Blue which was the closest color match I could get to the body of the pen. The nib has some give due to the length of the tines. It's not as bouncy as a King of Pen but if you push it a little the tines will spread without risking springing the nib.

I think the F nib is holding this pen back from being great. It needs an M, B, stub or flex nib to take advantage of that big ebonite feed. I know some of the Chinese companies have released different nib widths after the initial release of a compatible pen model so I will keep an eye out for any Hongdian #8 size nibs (or #42 in their numbering) that come out later. I am curious if a Jinhao 9019 medium nib would fit into this pen for greater flow.

Thanks, @Lam1 this helped a lot.

Two questions, if I may... First, being 18k gold, does this have a soft touch?  Or is it a stiff, firm nib?  Second, when you say the grind is almost like a cube, does this mean there is effectively only one writing angle?  That is, do you have to hold the pen so the bottom face of the cube is flat on the paper?

@Mechanical

Sorry for the delay to reply.

Yes, the stub that I have does have that soft touch or cushion feel that my other VP nibs have.

And, yes, you do have to hold the pen with the bottom flat on the paper or else it doesn't write.

Please, keep in mind that this is just one data point, since I have never tried any other VP stub. There are some threads, either her or on reddit that discuss the BP stubs (I saw it recently, but can't remember where).

Here is a quick pic of how it writes (the paper is Rhodia and the squares are 5mmX5mm):

Another Lorelei 667 EF piston filler. A yellow one. I already have turquoisey blue and purple pink.

Will work for pens...

Well, if you happen to be in Vienna/Austria for next year's Pelikan Hub, we can arrange that. I am planning on going and taking this pen with me. 😉

If I did find myself in Vienna for next year’s Pelikan Hub it would be a great surprise to me, but I will keep it in mind! :)

Do you find that the siren-song of the Lorelei lures you irresistibly to liquid-based doom...? 😉

(I'll get me coat.)

Thanks!  This is a very attractive option.  I like the amount of line variation you’re getting and still you’re able to stay within a 5mm spacing.  A cushioned  touch is just what I’d want in a daily-use stub.

Currently most used pen: Lamy 2000, Makrolon <F> -- filled with Lamy Pink Cliff ink

Oops I did it again. No more for the year! I know I said that before but I mostly mean it this time.

I just ordered a Pilot E95s. At least at $101 on amazon it wasn't too bad. That's what happens when I ink up a nice Parker 45 and remember why I like having a long tapered section. It makes a think pen feel thicker since "section" actually isn't that thin farther back.

After seeing your photos of it in another thread, I did a quick Google search.  And saw the price tag(s) associated with that pen model..... :yikes:

😔 Sorry.

If it's any comfort to you, know that every time I'm using one of my Lamy Safaris I end up earworming a Breeders song.

Although then again, it's not really a comparable 'fate', is it? I like the song, and Kim Deal's voice is ❤️, m'kay?

Yes, I know. But that's definitely not the price I have bought it for. I have bought it in the 3 digit range, not in the 4 digit, like they are offered on ebay.

A Parker 51 (the new version). I have yet to own a vintage 51, although it is on my list. I know that the new version sometimes gets unfavorably compared to the old one. Meh! I had $86.41 burning a hole in my pocket.
