Hi @hariharan

That's a nice Mini-Review. 😀👍

What ink were you using and what paper were you writing on?

Its a waterman mysterious blue ink. Usually i prefer to use Bril royal blue the first time. However, i was out of stock and i used waterman. Both Bril and waterman blue gives me consistent performance in all types of pens and papers.

In this case, i am not sure about the paper, i had bought this notebook. "pagework" in amazon. The performance is much better than i had expected. I usually buy an Indian brand "classmate" for notes. But the paper in classmate note books are thin and even a fine nib, sometimes seeps.  I am quite happy with this "pagework" notebook, given the price range.

I've been looking for an ebonite pen for some time, but hadn't decided quite what I wanted.  While putting in an order for a bottle of ink, I noticed that the vendor had some Eboyas in stock... and added one to my cart.

This is the medium body Houju with beige swirls sitting next to a Lamy Safari.

I find it hard to photograh; it is very high gloss.

The pen was listed as an F, which seems right to me.  But on the data card from the manufacturer it is graded as MF. :-)

Currently most used pen: Lamy 2000, Makrolon <F> -- filled with Lamy Pink Cliff ink

@Mechanical nice; I bet it looks stunning live in living color!  My impulse is currently at the import stage in Anchorage with estimated delivery on Monday.

I really need to improve my photography.  I think at least half of the problem is lighting,

This particular pen is finished so nicely I find that I just want to hold it. :-)

That's some understated, and thus very elegant mottled ebonite 👍

Thanks, @lamarax.  I tend to feel the same way.  Not that my eye is not also drawn to the bolder combinations, but a pen with subtlety can have enduring appeal.  I think this one will be like that.

Last night I bought a Geha spade nib pen, another cartridge filler this time. I think it’s a 736P, as it looks just like the example on Ruettinger’s Geha section- but the nib is 18k rather than 14k.  I love the similar style piston filler and the school cartridge pens that I have, this one looks like a hybrid of the two types.

I love my old hard rubber pens, plain, chased, rippled- they are all beautiful and feel really nice to hold. New pens tend to smell too much for me, but they are lovely to look at.  Your new pen looks like beautiful wood grain.

It does look a bit like some exotic wood; that is definitely a plus for me.

You know, I’ve read postings where people talk about the smell of ebonite, but in this case, that smell is quite faint.   Maybe the smell varies by the amount of sulfur used in vulcanization? Or maybe the source of the original raw rubber makes a difference?

That’s definitely a possibility. I know there’s differences between Japanese and Indian ebonite, Su-Jen from Taccia mentioned it in discussion at last year’s PNW pen show.  I helped a friend research MSRPs for a collection that was consigned to her and the ebonite Noodler’s pens definitely reminded me of tires. The only modern ebonite pen I have is a Namiki that’s thoroughly lacquered, and that one doesn’t smell. I haven’t had a chance to smell any modern “naked” Japanese ebonite pens yet.

In another thread I said that I was not looking to add any pens... but who am I kidding?

Went to buy "ink and a notebook" at pen-store.gr in Athens and ended up with this:large.Pilot_VP_Seashore(2024).jpg.21d6975bc76a5bc53a2bf55845122513.jpg

Pilot VP Seashore (the 2024 LE). I did get a bottle of the Edelstein of the year and a Rhodia notebook.

I highly recommend the pen-store.gr. The owners (I forget their names and the card is packed away already) are wonderful and they have an excellent selection of pens, paper and ink! I will certainly buy from them (online) again. If you find yourself in Athens, I highly recommend a visit.

@Lam1, very nice!  What nib size did you choose?

I know this feeling where you are simply looking for ink and then your eyes lock on to some bit of shiny-shiny… which then comes home with you.

They're called Livás (Λιβάς). You can meet the sons of the founder (Periklis & Nikos) together in the shop at all times :)

Wonderful people indeed and they offer an impeccable service both online and in presence. I find myself always looking for an excuse to visit the physical store just for the good vibes (i.e. I choose to pick up my online orders from the store -- it's located downtown and on my everyday route to work).

Congratulations... it is a nice looking pen. A few weeks ago it prompted me to buy another VP, then a Majohn A2, then an old Namiki Capless with the facets. These things have a way of multiplying. I had a VP, Decimo, and Fermo already...

I've waited months for this little gem to arrive from FPUK.  The wait was worth it!

It the 2024 limited edition offering to members.  It is a plunger fill made my Nahvalur.  It came with the cardboard and foam presentation box you see in the photo.  it also came with two nibs; the broad I ordered, and a medium.  Each nib is in the same rich blue (So says the red/green colour blind man.  It could be purple for all I know.).  All in all, it is nice pen, and it didn't cost much at all.

(NOTE TO SELF:  Ask someone if it is blue or purple.  It probably is purple)
