What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I far prefer refilling cartridges anyway, so no big deal for me...

IMHO, converter is the worst of all the common filling systems, in that you have to perform heroic deeds to use the last 20% of a bottle of ink, risk cross-infection if ever you have SITB in your ink supply *and* have smaller capacity than dedicated self-filling pens.

For those of you buying items from the seller Amazon Japan on amazon.com, they are having a buy-2-for-5%-off and buy-3-for-8%-off.  Most items sold by them qualify.

It may be time to consider the use of either an ultrasonic cleaner or a product like Koh-i-noor "Rapido-Eze". If you have been changing the water, is there ink residue apparent? If the water isn't becoming colored by the ink, it's possible someone put a non-water-soluble ink, like India ink, in the pen. I do think you need to step up a level in your intervention.

Try soaking in water with a drop of dishwashing liquid; but Rapido Eze and an ultrasonic cleaner would indeed make this quicker.

I suspect that procuring an old sheaffer bottle off of the shall not be named auction website might  be a way to relieve one of the required 'heroic deeds'.

I am pretty sure I have an old Sheaffer bottle w/ the "ink shelf".

Contact me if you want it. Your only cost would be postage.

Or see me at tthe Commonwealth Pen Show this September (2024).

No need to go to the bay of evil 🙂

There is beauty and elegance even in its simplicity...

An interesting looking pen of which I was unaware.

If you would be kind enough to post additional information, it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

20 Osmiroid Models 65 (lever fill - need sacs) and 75 (piston fill - work fine) NOS w/ no nibs all in a range of colours *the pens are from England and deserve the appropriate spelling. They all take Esterbrook nibs (of which I have plenty)

AND three sets of nibs -

two sets of the calligraphy nibs (one set of italic and one regular writing with copperplate nib)

One complete set of the drawing nibs

I will plan to sell them as is, as a package at the Commonwealth Pen Show in September.

I appreciate the offer and thank you for it.  I have no need for it though.  I, for some fortunate reason have no problem fetching up the last dregs of ink out of bottles.  (lucky me!)

My father used Sheaffer pens and ink exclusively hence my familiarity with the bottles.

@Gloucesterman That's interesting, in that I just picked up an Osmiroid 65 lever filler a couple of weekends ago at an estate sale with an Italic B nib on the pen and with an extra nib unit labeled as a "B4 Straight" (it looks kinda like a music nib, having 3 tines).  Also, at the same sale, found a Sheaffer No Nonsense calligraphy pen plus TWO extra nibs for it (don't recall offhand what the widths for the Sheaffer nib units are offhand -- apparently didn't get them catalogued in the inventory file :headsmack: -- although in my defense it was a crazy week where I didn't feel all that great and had to play catch-up on things that needed to get done -- including eating too much on Friday when we went out to a Chinese buffet (and I didn't eat all that much to begin with) and having to take stuff for my insides when I got home and then sleeping for about 12 hours....

Don't know if the Osmiroid or the Sheaffer are in working condition yet (I'm a bit concerned that the only inks I saw in the place where that was happening was Higgins India Ink :o) so after buying SIX pens at another estate sale (including a THIRD burgundy Snorkel desk pen -- this time with a stand) the next morning and then after treating myself to breakfast ran to a couple of art supplly places trying to get a couple of jars of Rapid-o-Eze  as a precaution....

@Gloucesterman You probably haven't heard of it 'cos I got the name wrong. Doh! It's a Nobil. Anyway more details are available here. This is a really good site IMHO.

Thank you for the added information.

I will definitely check it out at some point soon.

Ruth, it's a Sailor "Luminous Shadow" King of Pen, in Storm Blue, with ruthenium (just for you!) trim. Their first KoP models that aren't either a cigar or Pro Gear shape, and done in quite different materials. These are all mostly sold out but I happened on a pen friend who was reducing his personal inventory, and I jumped at the offer in a way I usually don't. It will be my first KoP and I'm looking forward to it very much. Supposed to arrive on Weds, will take pics.

Well, I don't quite know the reference, but my 8 hours of yard work over two days hurt a lot more!
