What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Sort of impulsive....

I went to an estate sale out in the next county east on Saturday morning (got lucky on the traffic after having woken up 10 minutes before the alarm went off.  They had "Cross pens" listed but those turned out to be mostly BP/pencil sets. And they also had a couple of Parker Vectors, which appeared to be either BPs or rollerballs.:crybaby:  And a Tombow but I couldn't get it open (I couldn't tell whether it was a screw on cap or not, and it seemed a little on the heavy side for me.

But they did have a few Sheaffers, and I picked up a black one for five bucks (they had two or three of the same model, but I left the rest).  Checked before I went to pay for it and it has a converter installed, then discovered after I got home there were a couple of Skrip Black (I think) cartridges, still wrapped in plastic as well, in the bottom of the box.  And the paper with the warranty stuff and directions for filling and cleaning the pen had photos of the various types of nibs on different models -- the "Connaisseur™ nib", the "hand-set inlaid nib", and the nib for mine the "trim Fashion nib".  So I think the pen I got a Sheaffer Fashion, and from doing a bit of image searching online after I got home, think it might be a "Fashion I" (the clips and clutch rings on the "Fashion II" models seem a little different).  Got the pen flushed last night (it was actually pretty clean on the inside) and while I haven't had a chance to try it yet (the last couple of days have been really stressful) I got it inked up this afternoon with modern Skrip Purple.  Can't tell what the nib width is yet.

I'll try to get some pix of it tomorrow, but make no promises....

Absolutely beautiful.

I was certain I had replied to this, but in any event, thank you.

Thanks!  I certainly hope so.

Just did a bit of writing with it, and think the nib might be a medium.  While I'm not overly enamored of black pens, I have a fair number; because if they're older models, or vintage ones, that's what I seem to find the most of in the wild.  I'll just have to see how I manage with a really skinny pen (I should compare it with the girth of the BHR Waterman Ideal ringtop I picked up a while back at another estate sale).  It does have some heft to it, weight-wise, for such a skinny pen.   But for $5 US -- and had the converter already installed plus the unopened plastic bag with the cartridges in it?  No complaints about the price....

I just bought a later model Ciselé Parker 75 made in Meru with an 18k Medium nib. I was waiting to buy one at the pen show, but this one was being sold at a very good price and I was offered a deal on top of that. I’m intrigued by the differences between this 75 and my early flat tassie vermeil- I can’t wait to compare them in person!

While it seems like I've been going nuts, my activity just reflects what comes up in auctions and sales, and certain items you just can't hem-and-haw about. Impulse, you might say. So when a 1st generation Sheaffer Crest came up, and at a super reasonable price, I didn't hesitate. Excellent in condition, this pen was only made for two years (1941-42) and was the first metal cap pen that Sheaffer produced. I've wanted one of these for quite a while, an important little slot in my Sheaffer collection, and now it is here! (2 of the auction photos shown)

It’s getting to the end of AliExpress’ Choice Day sale (ends  tomorrow), and I have a ton of coins and coupons, so I ordered a few things, including 2 Jinhao 80 in blue and brown with gold trim, and a very slim, small pen with a nib that looks very similar to the one on the Pilot Falcon (the pen, not the FA nib).

The M600 Vibrant Orange was an impulse in that it popped up when I was looking for something else.

These jumbo pens were made in Japan for elderly people with stiff fingers. I collected a few extra large pens in anticipation of developing arthritis and one of them is a black version of this pen. It is a vacuum filler. You only twist the blind cap enough to detach it from the barrel, then you pull it out all the way, put the nib in the ink and quickly push it down. The rod has packing material to seal the barrel. It could be cork or fiber. You must ensure that is in good condition and seals well. It does wear and break down and will need replacing from time to time. In some types you must keep ink in all the time to keep the packing wet.

Renee Meeks (Scriptorium Pens) does wonderful, bespoke work and often with very interesting materials. I saw a new pen pop up on her Instagram feed in a blank I had never seen before from Conway-Stewart: White Quartz. I have an identical shape/size pen from her, the "Idyll" model, so I hesitated for less than 5 seconds. Should be here in a few days:

I just found a very clean MB 146 at a great price on the usual auction site. In the pocket of the vintage gift box I was tickled to find this warranty card. A few minutes' search in Google revealed that there used to be an Ulrich's Book Store in Ann Arbor, three blocks from the University. I like to imagine that this pen was a gift to a lucky graduate in 1990. $211 then would be $513 today, so someone was proud of their newly degreed offspring.

If bidding on eBay is impulsive, I won an auction for another Levenger True Writer Kyoto with F nib this time. It looks enough different to justify having two of the same pen colors. Anyway, I wanted it, and was lucky to put in a very late bid, and win by $1.

I just picked up this pen online, but I know next to nothing about it. No amount of searching has told me who "E & B" of London were, and that's a pretty nebulous search argument anyway. The auction listing calls it a Zebra pen, but I don't see that name anywhere on the pen or the gift box. All the Zebra pens I've found online are disposables or economy pens, not luxury items with solid gold nibs. The box and the tag say this is part of the BK Weaver Collection, and I've tracked him down. He's a still active designer named Barrie Weaver. His website mentions that he designed this pen for Zebra in 1990. But who were "E & B", and how were they connected to Zebra?

I needed one more item to get free same day shipping on an Amazon order so I’ve got a Wing Sung 630 coming today. 😆
