What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

A couple of new-to-me brand piston fillers at an estate sale down river from me yesterday morning.  One is apparently a brand from the DDR (East Germany) before re-unification called Heiko.  The other one (I'm guessing possibly also a German brand -- especially since there were a lot of books at the sale that were in German) I had some trouble deciphering the imprint (it looked as if it said "Singroitz" but when I did a bit of Google searching last night it might actually say "Singwitz").

Not sure when I'll have time to get photos taken and posted (this is going to be a busy week for me coming up).  But for $8 US apiece I figured that even if they need some work that's NOT a bad price to pay for piston filler pens (okay, not as good as the Senator Windsor I found for a buck, at another estate sale company's warehouse sale  -- but still...).

I do not need any more pens.  I have 25 inked-up at present, that I use every day for writing in my "quotation notebooks" and another 10-ish in dry-dock.

SO, that said, just last night I just learned about the Jinhao 80 pens, and what they are like (in particular, using Lamy nibs!).  I much prefer sensibly priced pens, so I would not buy a Lamy 2000, anyway.

Being a lover of my numerous Lamy AL-Stars and Safaris (and having a number of spare Lamy nibs for them) I impulsively realized that I must have a couple of Jinhao 80s to check out!

I prefer Lamy 1.1 and 1.5 stubs, so that's what will go on my Jinhao 80s when they arrive with EF and F nibs, from Amazon tomorrow.

I think a quasi-Lamy 2000-ish (homage?) from Jinhao, which can take Lamy nibs, makes very good sense!

(I am already a fan of the Jinhao X850, X750, X159, 100, and 82 models, so springing fairly small change to add a couple of Lamy-nib-ready Jinhao 80s was easy.)

I ordered an Estie oversize with a Journaler nib. I tried mightily to resist but then a friend mentioned she saw it on sale at Dromgoole's...

Of course a lonely pen rattles around in the shipping box so I ordered some ink to keep it company on the road.

‘Need’? Need is of little importance when ‘Want!’ comes calling 😉😁

I haven’t needed to buy any more pens for a while now, but I have bought several in that time, and there are still a few out there that trigger my brain’s ‘Want!’ impulse

I’d love to know what you think of the Journaler nib. I await your comments once you get and use it.

A few weeks ago I was crushed to learn that Leonardo was unable to produce a bespoke Momento Magico that I ordered through Stilo e Stilo.  I loved visiting their store, it was intended to commemorate our previous trip to Italy, and it was going to be my first Leonardo pen.  Today the clouds parted when I saw this new offering from Stilo Fetti.  I ordered one without giving it a second thought (rare for me).  I love wood fountain pens so to obtain a wood Leonardo with a mosaico section has me beyond excited!  I’d prefer it to have a gold nib but many here seem to like Leonardo’s steel nibs almost as well so, fingers crossed.  Besides, I can always order a replacement nib.

I purchased a noodler ahab because im poor and I read online I can mod the nib fairly easily to reach some decent level of flexibility. But its not arrived yet. I read online it smells putrid. Hope the smell isnt as bad as they say online.

FYI - Malwarebytes flagged that site as riskware.

I’ve run a few scans and they all show that no personal info has been exposed.  Definitely will have me more vigilant in the future.  Thanks for letting me know.

Noodler's Ahab can be adjusted to be a nice flexible writer. The only limitation is that you have to put more pressure when flexing. I have several: nice colours , durable and easy to maintain.

I bought a second series Canadian Waterman oversize Hundred Year pen, the one NOT ribbed, in maroon colour, amber barrel bottom and medium nib. Wow! What a writer.

Yes, I would call that impulsive...

Went to Vienna today with no fountain pen in mind and returned home with

1 Exekutiv-Simplo-Wien from 2024

made from Red Ripple Ebonite from 1935 and with an old and truly amazing 14K Bock nib (VERY flexible) and

1 Montblanc 216 from 1955 - 1959

in Coral Red with an also pretty amazing and VERY flexible 14K nib, produced in Denmark.

I have absolutely no idea how this happened.

Vienna does that to you. You go there innocently enough, then suddenly you see things you can’t live without. I can understand how, despite his talent and reputation that Mozart went broke there…😃

it sounds like you found some nice pens.

Found a kaweco perkeo calligraphy set with three nib sizes. Couldn’t pass up the great deal and it was listed as the last one. It’s my “try before I buy” a stub for the next step up pen. Plus, I like my kaweco sport and perkeo, so, bonus.

Kaweco Lilliput fireblue. I spotted it on Amazon for an amazing price. Ordered two and put one in the "Christmas is coming" fix box.

Now I'm trying to decide what to ink it with. So many choices...

I think I saw the same price. Then, in weakness, I ordered it, using $16.94 in credit card rewards to lower the price. I hope I like the size as I’ve never held a Lilliput.
