What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

And very impulsive it was, too. This Montblanc model 30 from the 1930s was zapping on my wavelength from the moment I saw it; it took maybe 5 minutes to read the listing twice and go after it. 5 days later and here it is. What a beauty, tight as a drum and writes like heaven. I don't usually go matchy-matchy with inks, but I put Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki in it.

Gorgeous I've never tried writing with a vintage Montblanc. I hope it writes as good as it look.

I finally gave in and ordered a Pelikan M200 Cafe Creme from Chatterley Pens. They were down to their last one, so I gave in and nabbed it.

That is one elegant pen.

Here is the Leonardo MZ in a material by Brooks called "Forced Patina". A run of 100 for Pen Chalet, who did a nice job of picking an example that leaned to the earth tones and away from the turquoise. It really does give the impression of patina in progress.

Wow! What a beautiful pen!

Congrats!

My last impulsive purchase was something much more mundane, a Pilot Custom 823 Black.

I had one (Brown) once, sold it and missed it a bit.

Pilot F nibs are just too amazing to resist!

Beautiful, Jon, and I like the balance of the colors.  I hope mine is evenly mixed.

I think you are going to love the Cafe Creme. Mine made me buy the brown demonstrators to keep it company. You have already done that, so your Cafe Creme will be happy with all the other Pelikans in your amazing collection.

I saw one of these on eBay, and almost bid. I don’t know enough about them to know what to look for. Fantastic photos.

@Tashi_Tsering The picture of the Art Deco pens on miniature train tracks is a hilarious homage to the famous train drawing. Kudos on every level!

Had an incredibly suckful morning: the gas replacement people around the corner from my house started working around 7:30 AM; followed by knocking the almost full bottle of Grinch Garnet -- in the box, no less -- onto the kitchen floor, breaking the bottle in the process (although my husband kindly cleaned up the mess on the white ceramic tile floor); after that, I got on the road later than planned and stopped at a rest area just across the state line only to have trouble finding my car keys -- and in the process, discovering that the TV remote decided to go on a car trip with me because I found it in my PURSE!  So when I got to Morgantown, WV, and got onto I-68, saw that there were a couple of antiques places (I may have been to them in the past) and stuck my nose in the one closer to the highway.  And on the counter, sticking up from a small container, was a blue Sheaffer Snorkel!  Asked what the price was, and the woman didn't know, but sent a photo of it to her husband (who was off at another antiques place) and he told her "ten bucks") and for me?  KA-CHING!

When I got into my hotel room for the B/W show, I went online and have tentatively ID'd it as a Statesman (white dot, palladium silver Triumph nib, and a relatively wide cap band -- although I haven't had a chance to measure it yet.

And the best part?  I think it might be an F nib, which means that I'll be in less of a hurry to find another Snorkel with an EF nib now (my husband is currently "borrowing" my other blue Snorkel, which does have an EF nib).

I didn't feel like dealing with the PA Turnpike, and the alternate route I was shown was to head east from Morgantown.  So, apparently one of those times when the universe decided I *needed* a pen....  (The downside, of course, is that makes 6 more acquired pens in two months.... )

Thanks! :)

Skyline is a very interesting model, but be careful when choosing, especially online. The plastic these pens are made from is prone to shrinkage. Loss of gilding is also common. My friend sent me 6 pens to choose from and I only kept 2.

The small version (12.5cm capped) is uncomfortable for me without posting, the medium (13.5cm capped) and large (14cm) are more comfortable and have larger nibs.

Nibs are pleasant, have some springiness (not flex, but springy), medium ink flow.

There was a huge variety of colors for these pens; the pens with caps with longitudinal stripes seem to me the most interesting. The caps of these pens are celluloid, translucent (like Pelikan barrels).

I think Skyline is an interesting model, but I like Wahl-Eversharp Doric and Decoband much better.

Thanks! Normally, I stick to the demonstrators, but the ink window, and you guys who seem so happy with yours, made me realize I'd be bummed if I missed out. Plus, Pelikan Special Editions are really the focus of my collection these days. They never disappoint.

Thanks! I think I bought the last new one online in the US.  It will complement my morning latte macchiato, which is usually when I start my journal for the day.

Correction: Goldspot still has a couple listed.

I like the two tone Cafe Creme. I’ve wished Pelikan would come up with another two tone version. If they chose the colors as well as they did with the Cafe Creme, I bet it would sell.

Thank you for the information @Tashi_Tsering I had no idea the Skyline came in different sizes. I’m watching one on eBay. I’ll check the size.

It is 5 3/8 inches which is 13+cm. So it’s a medium. I like the one I’m watching because it is burgundy with a striped cap.  The seller is very reputable.

Better. I really don't understand what the qualities are about this nib that does so much to improve my handwriting. It's just the right combination of wetness and light feedback, I guess, and just a little softness. It makes me want to write with flair and flourish. This is definitely one of my top 5 pens.

I’ve considered ordering a broad for just the same reason.  Although, I’ve also wondered if Mitsubishi will try making the 2000 in a color other than black.  Hmmm…

Another “steam locomotive” from Wahl-Eversharp — “Symphony” model (2nd generation).

The pen was designed by Raymond Loewy (on photo below), who designed the S1 steam locomotive in 1939. Asymmetrical cap resembles the front of the S1

Oh you make me want a train pen @Tashi_Tsering  is the medium Skyline a good one?

I have a small hand and a high grip. The medium Skyline is quite convenient for me. There may be a little less weight to it than I like. When compared with other well-known pens, for me the medium Skyline is more convenient than the vintage Pelikan 400 or modern Pelikan M200

If the Skyline is in good condition and the price is acceptable, then the medium Skyline seems like a good choice.
