What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

A Leonardo Momento Zero on Pen Chalet’s Final Drop. It’s a returned pen that was inked up by the buyer. It has the papers and box. The pen is the blue Hawaii with a stub nib. I bought it because of the stub nib. Also used a 10% off coupon, and it was 35% off since it was a return.

I purchased a Pelikan M805 in black from Cult Pens when the Pound plummeted. Call me an opportunist. I have plenty of other M800s, but figured this was a good time to add a simple black version. Who doesnt need a black German pen?

Two Caran d’Ache Léman Grand Bleu fountain pens with a fine nib.

Please ignore if this question is rude or intrusive, but, ah, this makes me really curious. One to use and one to save? Always want two colors of ink? Sell one for more than it cost? Those are my only guesses.

I spent $160 today, on ink samples, notebooks, and 4 basic pens to play with all the ink. (An Ahab, 2 Nib Creapers, and a Prefounte)

The Platinum Prefounte is the only model I don't already know that I like. But I figured for $17 (Pen and converter), it was worth a shot.

That was my last impulsive purchase, but one.

I just ordered a bottle of Diamine Noel from Pure Pens, along with an ebonite Noodler's Neponset (Pilgrim green LE).

$55, after using their MARCH10 coupon for 10% off. :yikes:

I suppose all my pen acquisitions were impulsive. Latest one was an Aurora 888 Nettuno. I mainly go for Auroras these days - I just find I can rely on them never to disappoint - so I’m pretty susceptible to any Optima or 88 which has something that catches my eye. In this case it was nothing more than, “Ooh, dark blue. I like dark blue”. Of course I had seen the Nettuno edition around for ages but for some reason that day it seemed to me that only an abject fool would think he could possibly live without one.

I can’t explain it better than that.

I ink them up with MB Maya Blue and Chinese Blue.

Okay, well, I apparently lied (um, somewhat) the other day. While I'm still the highest bidder on [mumble mumble] I don't expect to actually win the auction.

But in the meantime, the *real* last impulsive purchase was to pre-order one of the new Safari colors (Violet), F nib -- along with a converter and (because the nib choices were somewhat limited), an extra nib (black B nib). Plus, I ordered a small notebook sampler set (which includes Field Notes, Apica and IIRC Memosyne).

I might have waited a bit on stuff, but got an email ad from iPenStore this afternoon. (They're expecting a partial shipment of the 2020 Safari LE pens on Monday). But in a case of virtuous self control, I didn't buy any ink....

I ordered what looks like a Wing Sung 601 except it is aerometric. I liked the look of the material (seller says "celluloid" but you know...): it looks like flamed metal somehow (though it's plastic).

A bit worried about the sac as I don't see myself replacing it. Yes, I know, cheap pen but still, I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Thinking of getting a vacumatic just for the heck of it (and because I don't find any of the affordable vac fillers nice enough)

Sitting at home all day has got me shopping. I had enough points at Pen Chalet to get a free bottle of ink (up to $20, which means no Iroshizuku or Edelstein).

I went for a 4.5 oz bottle of Noodler's Black.

But to get the free, I had to buy at least one other item. A $2.75 ink sample would have done it, and I chose two samples (Aurora Blue and Aurora Black).

But then there's the $50 min to avoid $5.99 in shipping.

So I added a Nib Creaper. for $12.88. And a Noodler's Boston Safety pen for $44 (they're usually $55).

The latter pen is the true impulse buy, as I have never used one before now.

$62 for my "free" ink. That's how they get ya.

I highly recommend that you watch the video that Nathan Tardif made when the Boston Safety pens were first released. It's a little more complicated a pen than the Charlie eyedroppers are....

I need to re-watch the video myself at some point, because I need to flush mine out, and I want to take it fully apart. (That's a good price on that pen, BTW, and not bad on the Creaper).

I have watched Nathan's videos about the Safety Pen, for sure. I think I know what I am getting into, but we shall see!

20% off the typical cost of those Bostons made the pen impulse-buy-worthy.

Pen Chalet is almost always cheaper on Noodler's pens. The only trade-off is that they usually have a limited color selection on Nib Creapers and Ahabs. I thought I bought their last 3 Nib Creapers this week, but it looks like they may have had more than 1 black one. :P

My last impulse purchase was three Ensso Italia pens: one in titanium, one in brass, and one in anodized aluminium.

I have a weakness for machined metal pens, and these ones look great. Unfortunately the cap is not very well designed, so I can't recommend them.

I've been meaning to share this fantastic pen for a while and now I've got no excuse not to!

Some may remember this very special Onoto Sterling Silver Plunger Filler from their social media posts last year - though not for long! I snapped this up and am very pleased I did. I nearly bought one of the vintage inspired solid silver overlay pens (the ones that look like the 1915 pens) but in the end that gold on silver won!

It has a fine 18ct Onoto point and is filled with Pelikan Black, I like its slight brownish undertone and good behaviour.

Here's a few comparisons. I got the Magna Classic from my first - and as yet only - pen show, the 2019 in Bristol. I always used a blue/black in this pen, it seems to fit the aesthetic. The green pearl 6234, c. 1947, was a lucky find not long after.

I've fancied a modern Plunger Filler for a while and these new models couldn't have been released at a better time!

My only gripe is that silver band on the section - I would have preferred a seamless transition, but a person can't have everything (I mean where would you put it?)

Keep uncapping and capping them - the threading does improve!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Well, my impulse pre-order of the new Safari got pushed back. The new email ad from iPenStore said that their shipment got pushed back by Lamy for a couple of weeks. :(

I went to the local pen porn store for ONE bottle of ink.... probably shouldn’t have even gone in. Picked two bottles, because I needed another black ink. Then I mouthed off about making me a cash deal on a Pilot 823.....he did, so I had to take him up on the black version of that pen.

Damn that man!
