It's due tomorrow.

My last impulse pen buy was at a bricks-and-mortar store here called ‘Home Bargains’.

I saw a (barely-) own-branded blister pack that contained a no-name transparent plastic pen with an unmarked white-metal nib, and two cartridges of black ink.

The only detail on the back of the cardboard inside the blister pack was that it was ‘Made in China’.
VAT (at 20% ) was included in the price.

That price was 59 pence (£0.59).
I haven't seen one since, only a two-pen pack that contained one red FP and a two or three cartridges and one blue rollerball - for ‘fully’ £0.99....

The pen I got is fairly narrow, and very light-weight. The cartridges are proprietary, but SICs fit in it (only one at a time though, which is a shame). Its plastic clip broke off after two days - so I guess that it should only be called upon to serve as a roll-stop, and not e.g. to secure the pen inside a shirt pocket.

For the price I paid I am frankly surprised that it writes at all, and it actually writes with a wet line that I estimate to be roughly an Asian ‘M’ nib. Which is right in the wheelhouse of what I like. Lucky me.

A Caran d’Ache 849 in fluorescent green. I saw it in a blog post, got to try it at pen club, which meets outside the Pen Place store. So I went in and got one, with an EF nib. I am a stub and italic nib fan, but some EF nibs can show some line variation. The nib on the pen I bought does not feel as smooth as the one I tried. That pen was new to the owner.

Funny thing is, last night I was thinking about how that impulsive act was not the smartest. Then I thought of a pen I need repaired by Edison Pens. They have a pen I have wanted for awhile. My main thought was, get the pen repaired, order the new one, and say no more pen buying. I would like to get to that point. (Gifts are another thing.)

As I've mentioned, I just got a Pelikan m205 BB stub nib ground by John Mottishaw and a plain black m205 - Well after I blew my pen budget. And I'm getting a Snorkel restored  .

Hi WLSpec,

That's a great pen with a great nib! Congratulations. 👍

Deja vu with Ink-Vue. A few months back I got a Waterman Ink-Vue Silver Ray pen with a RED Keyhole nib. And Now I can't quite to lay off of them. If I see one for sale for less than $120, I feel compelled to close the deal. I found one about 12 seconds before the auction ended today, and ended up snagging it for a bit under $110.

In my defense, they are a great pen which checked all the boxes...

1. vintage

2. Flexy

3. very large ink capacity

4. It is an Ink-Vue, you always know how much ink is left, no surprises.

Picture of the first which started this wicked trend.

  • 1 month later...

I picked up the new-ish platinum prefounte in dark blue. The F nib was kinda junk. Swapped it for an EF and I gotta say it's a nice little thing for $10.

I just bought a Waterman Graduate Allure on eBay for 8.50 usd. It came up as a new listing, looks kind of nice, so I jumped on it. I hope I didn't make a mistake.

My new Santini-Italia Libra Ambra arrived yesterday. Probably my last serious pen purchase until the current crisis settles down.

It was this Wancher Pen in the silk ebonite: https://www.wancherpen.com/pages/zogan

I went with the Sakura grip, ebonite feed and gold nib. As the nib is back ordered I expect to receive the pen sometime in August.

That was my Saturday night self isolation impulse buy.

Yahoo Auction just had some (and they still have a few!) pocket pens from Pilot. I won a classic stainless steel Myu, and a couple of Elites, one with a hooded White Gold nib and the other with a more pedestrian 14k nib. The seller still has a few of the Myus that finish either late this week or early next.

I'm good for awhile though.

Well, it remains to be seen what my most recent impulsive acquisition is -- I bid on a pen on eBay and won't know whether I've won until the end of the week (I lost another one with seconds to go the other night...).

I suspect the next ACTUAL acquisition will be one of the new Violet Safaris, once they become available stateside.
