Thanks for the information.  I keep looking at the Explorers, but can't decide on a color.

It’s hard with that pen, isn’t it?  Red, maybe.  The white with black trim looks nice, etc.

That blue one is probably what I would end up with if I saw it at the store, but the contrast of the black and white one is pretty.

Top 5 of 20 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Parker “51” Desk pen EF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Yiren Giraffe IEF, Pilot Yama-Guri/sky blue holographic mica

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I’d love to see them in person.  I checked, and the KC pen store, The Pen Place, has them. But they are charging $31.25. I’ve seen $25 more often as the price. Though it’s higher on Amazon.  Pen club members get 20% off at The Pen Place, which gets the price to $25.

Now THAT is a strong recommendation for the Explorer (though I realize you were only addressing Misfit and not the whole world)!  How do you think it would do with a 9-year old as a first FP?

I did say we could discuss it—I didn’t say I would necessarily agree to it unconditionally, or mention any specific terms and conditions (which would not be appropriate in this public forum anyway). 😛

That said, the offer was genuine specifically in Misfit’s case, but I am quite confident that most folks looking for a fairly inexpensive, light pen would find the Explorer quite satisfactory.

I've been scouring eBay trying to complete my Pelikan M2XX demonstrator collection. I came across an Athens ballpoint Pelikan M620 and bid on a whim as the price seemed pretty low, assuming I'd never get it. Won the auction this morning as the sole bidder. Looking forward to seeing it in person.

Picked up a desk pen on the way to work today, one of those "oooo shiny" kinda purchases. it's got a gold nib but no markings exept a "MADE IN USA" on the lever

A Churchill Bengal Tiger Kirinite Fountain Pen. I've been eyeing pens made by this Cambridge, UK, producer for a while and decided to go for this one. The pen will be delivered in the New Year :-)

The producer is: Gilbert House Pens

I dunno.  Is it the price?  Can't decide between the two models?  Having trouble finding the color that just speaks to you?

I love my two Decimos -- a Vanishing Point is a bit too heavy and awkward for my hand --  but my husband loves the used Vanishing Point I found in an antiques and collectibles shop a few years ago, once I swapped out the F nib assembly on it for an EF one.

They aren't cheap, and I had a bit of trouble with the original Decimo's door not closing properly at first once I swapped out the nib assemblies between it and the VP (then LOST it :crybaby: after that got fixed) but I was able to get a replacement one (in the color I wanted) from a vendor in Japan on eBay (and for less money -- even with paying for economy airmail shipping from Japan -- since I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup).  And liked it so much that I sprung for a dark blue one, with a stub nib, once that color became available in the US.

It's not so much the color\finish I am concerned with, it's more of the fact I don't know if the clip will work with my specific grip.

“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you'll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart."

My last spontanous buy was today. I was offered this Caran D`Ache test set 🙂 The nibs are surpringly good and it is fun to have the entire variety of nib sizes. Any stories about these test sets are gratefully received. Happy New Year

@MoBe beautiful presentation box!

Thank you. It was indeed spontanous, didn't plan to buy any Caran D'Ache pen in the foreseen future 🙂

Ending 2024 on a high note with my first Pelikan limited edition pen: a used Original of Their Time 1935 Jade. I usually stick to the special editions as spending over a thousand for a pen is a hard limit for me. I just don't think I'd get $1K worth of pleasure out of it, no matter how nice a pen is. I guess all the other bidders were out partying as I scored this for considerably less on eBay. (My husband calls New Year's Eve amateur night and we stay home.)
