What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I remember @AmandaW mentioning using a Papa Kakuno, and I did see there was a family of them.  Last night I was looking for the clear Kaweco Perkeo, then thought of the Kakuno. It comes in a clear version. The Kakuno family showed up. I impulsively ordered Papa and Mama while waiting to go to sleep.

What size tip does it have?

Will have to check when my husband is back from his work trip. He took the pen with him and I forget

My last impulse was a red barreled Ellington pen with a fine nib. I have one of their stealth models (jet black with a black nib). They both write really smooth and use an international cartridge. No problems with them drying out here in Arizona (like my Watermans and Lamy's do). I could use bottled ink, but it is too much of a hassle. Cost of each was about $40. I know I'm cheap but I am retired and just had to put $1800 of repairs in my car and a new water heater in the house.

I am a fountain pen/ penguin junkie,

Not for myself, but my wife wanted it, so I (pre-)ordered one of these:

Now she just has to remember to collect it in Tokyo.

I won my first ever ebay auction.  This copper orange Lamy Al-Star.  I had an extra z57 nib lying around so I eventually wanted to find a good home for it.  Saw this and put in the minimum bid.  Much to my surprise, I won a week later.  I always thought I’d pick up a Lamy Safari for that nib since the first fountain pen I ever bought was a white Safari.  I was in Design school when the Safari first came out and it had won a lot of design awards.  The budding Industrial Designer in me had to have it.  I don’t remember much about that pen except that it was dirty all of the time.  I opted for the al-star because of the added weight, colors and finishes.  I was outbid on an NOS charged green one so I bid on the orange one that I also liked.  A week and a half later it showed up in the mail.  It’s a nice sketching pen with that z57 nib.

I had to look online to see what a z57 nib was.  What width did you have?

Extra Fine which is great for sketching.  Not the finest of lines but flows very smoothly when used for sketching.  No skipping.  I think this Al-Star may be the lightest pen I own.  It may take a little getting used to but I'm finding that I enjoy lighter pens when sketching.  It's fun having the Safari-like triangular section.  I think I lost my first pen (and only Safari) one or two years after I got it.  Haven't held that Lamy section for about 40 years.

I ordered a Kaweco Sport in Bordeaux to qualify for free shipping at Amazon. When checking out, they offered a month of Prime membership. I just had a month of free Prime membership in August. It seems like I’ve read they don’t offer free Prime that soon.  The Bordeaux pen might look good with a Casio watch I ordered.

Edit:

oh me oh my, and I ordered a Pilot Elite in Burgundy….  I’ve totally copied someone on Reddit. I need to stop buying pens.

I have and love this pen! Now you need to find the limited edition orange ink they made to go with this pen! It is one of the best behaved oranges I have ever used.

No impulsive buys lately, but heading to the Dallas Pen Show this Thursday and am quite sure there will be impulse buying going on there.  Love the Dallas show!

I am also really enjoying this pen just the few days I’ve owned it.  It also came with two cartridges of the orange ink.  Now I’m afraid to try it because, if I like it as much as you suggest, I may not be able to find it again!

I just bought a gold Sheaffer TRZ 70. I love these slim pens so much. It’s not labeled NOS, but the converter is present and the sticker is still on the barrel.

I have yet to succumb to temptation, but Onoto has announced the release of ceramic Scholars in a number of new colours.

Hmm...

The BRG Scholar would match my car.

Hmm...

Keep in mind that you will (almost) always be able to find the ink that you want, but the real question is, "at what cost"?

BTW, does the ink have a specific name in addition to "orange"?

I just received a NOS Pelikan M620 Madrid ("Cities of the World" series) from a long-time friend and dealer. I've wanted one of these for a good 10 years, and while they pop up from time to time, the likelihood of an unused, complete boxed set was not something I thought would happen. I didn't hesitate, and it is really lovely. Photo for reference, I will take pics in a day or two.
