They find me, I swear! Actually, it was @fireant who let me know it was on the sale table. I went to take a look, and it was exactly the amount of cash I had on me. I wasn’t even meant to have that cash on me, but I had gone shopping the day before with cash and there was a 40% off sale.  Here’s a few writing samples, the first in my Cartotecnica Monzese journal (blurred out a name), the other on 35 NFC paper.

"it was exactly the amount of cash I had on me" <-- Haha likely story. I've heard that one before...😜  Meanwhile you have a legendary Waterman 52 👍👍  On top of that, CluelessMe had no idea what 35 NFC paper was but when I looked it up it just showed stickers and tags and a video on how to make NFC digital business cards for free... 🤪

I just ordered my first Majohn A2 (alas, not in my top two preferences in terms of colour) for US$12.53 (delivered and taxed), and my second HongDian 1843 for US$5.49, on AliExpress. Neither of those pen models really interested me that much, especially the latter because of its glossy, slick metal section and the physical step-down to it from the barrel. However, when I saw one offered at sub-US$5 price (before tax, but with free delivery), I couldn't help myself. It was delivered to me in Australia in just eight days; and, when I finally inked it up this morning to test, it really isn't that bad ergonomically.

Oh, and I also picked up a HongDian H1 yesterday for US$5.66.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Not sure what the next impulsive purchase will be (because it will be an impulsive purchase!) but I do know when... St. Louis Pen show coming up June 23-25th.

A red Parker Senior Duofold aerometric-filler pen and pencil set. If I can keep my daughter from stealing the pencil, I think I'll enjoy writing with it.

All of my pen purchases have been impulse buys. I'm getting better at figuring out what I like now, and have more thought put into my purchases.

Yesterday I went and bought a Montblanc Le Petit Prince Star special edition pen (so described by the seller), which appears to be the Classique size, from Japan. I'm not even sure why, except that it's been two months since my last purchase. It looks like it might be nice. We'll see in 2 to 4 weeks, I guess.

Oh, I tell a lie. Last week I ordered one of those new capless pens from China on Aliexpress, the name/model of which I forget, because of some stuff I read here. I was curious and it was $13. To me it doesn't really count as a purchase. (found it: Oaso A016 in green)

👍

My husband has flat out said he won't ever buy me a pen because he's afraid of getting something I won't like or is too big of heavy for me to use.

Of course he won't buy me ink either, because he thinks I have too much already....   A few years ago I told him I didn't have NEARLY as much ink as people like Amberlea Davis or Sam Capote, and he said "This ISN'T a competition!"

All those qualities still require pen training! I'm sure @inkstainedruth's husband would buy her a pen if he were confident it was the correct one!

So... now I can finally give you an update about my impulsive pen acquisition almost 15 months ago:

Nakaya Dorsal Fin 2, Aka-Tamenuri, bicolor B-nib (although in Europe, we would rather call it an F-nib).

Nakaya Dorsal Fin 2_01.jpg

Nakaya Dorsal Fin 2_04.jpg

Nakaya Dorsal Fin 2_03.jpg

Initially I wanted to get the goldfish converter, but the seller´s homepage said I would have to wait another 8-12 months to receive it and there was this snowflake converter they had in store, so... well, I still can get the goldfish converter if I want to.

The pen is a real beauty and I will probably spend quite a bit of time just looking at the lacquer.

That really is a lovely pen, and the nib is especially striking. Congratulations!

I bought this Parker 51 - 2021, a pen I thought I would never buy after all the mainly negative reviews and because I really don't like modern Parker pens (Duofolds excluded). I do however like my vintage 51's and have been a little curious about this new version since introduction. Friday I came across this Deluxe version with close to 50% off, enough for me to satisfy my curiosity.

It arrived yesterday so have been playing since, overall I do like the design and feel of the pen, it writes very smooth when it writes but suffers from serious hard starts. I am experimenting a little with different inks since the M nib writes pretty wide, currently inked with Pelikan Blue/Black to control it a little although this will not help with the hard starts. Wondering how I will feel about this pen after some use.

Oh, and I just bought a vintage green Pilot Vanishing Point in an action, so time to control my impulses for a while....

Congratulations! Nakaya's are truly beautiful pens.

I just talked myself out of one, a vintage Swan Eternal 46. Just too expensive for what it is, and I don't need another majestic black pen. I accidentally discovered it about 4 hours before the auction was due to end (6:35 pm Pacific Time; if you're interested, hurry on down), so I think that would count as impulsive if I were to go ahead with it.

The Japanese B is rather a European F, not even quite an M I would say. The nib is smooth but nowhere near a baby bottom, no skipping, no whatever. I flushed it and then inked it up with Montblanc Midnight Blue and it wrote nicely from the very start. The nib seems to be a tiny little bit on the flexible side, if you push it a little bit it lays down significantly more ink without being a dry writer if you don´t. There is absolutely no stubbiness to this nib (something I miss a little, being a huge fan of vintage Pelikan B nibs), but that wasn´t to be expected either.

The whole pen is surprisingly big, it looks a lot slimmer and smaller than it actually is. Every time I am uncapping it, I am again surprised by its... well... bulkiness. The fin standing upright in my hand when writing doesn´t make it any easier to wield this pen. I think it will take me some time to really get used to it.

So...

Looks: I am thoroughly in love and touching it is pen heaven.

Writing: This will take some practice to love it as much for its writing qualities as it deserves.

The Platinum #3776 Black Diamond EF I ordered has been shipped already. Last I heard it was delayed, to arrive 1 August, but now it will be here next week. :)

Will work for pens...
