Just had a big sad (well, not so big in the grand scheme of things but a bit) moment. I thought I got a really good deal on a Sheaffer Triumph Snorkel (the all gold-fill model) and now I realize I actually bought a Sheaffer Triumph Touchdown because the pictures were terrible.

It was a great deal for a Snorkel and kind of a middling to bad deal for a Touchdown. Sigh... can't even do much since they never claimed it was a Snorkel, and I should have known because Snorkels don't have visulated sections. But that's how impulse buys go, should have taken more time to think about it.

There are days where you are the dog and other days where you are the tree. 🤷‍♀️

One the good side: You´ve got a pen coming and who knows? It might be a very nice writer.

That's true, and on the bright side, touchdown pens are less annoying to service. But still, sucks that I overpaid a bit...

And if you were a country, we might say that urination (your-i-nation). P.S. sounds better orally...

Welp, it's (bleep) cracked. I knew I had a bad feeling about this. I don't even know why I buy vintage pens anymore, I should just skip a step and light my money on fire directly. Save some time, you know?

If you are going to the Chicago Pen Show (next week, I think?), bring it with you. Check out the cost of fixing it or what it might be worth as "parts" trade to be use toward another purchase. Or, if you bought it from someone who did not reveal that it had a crack (and it wasn't obvious) they should make good on it if they have any integrity.

You may also want to post a picture or two here and ask for advice.

Here's a picture of the offending pen. I am so sad because it's a gorgeous pen. I like Sheaffer's TM models but they're a bit light for me, this has some added heft.

SheafferTouchdownCrack2.thumb.jpg.347ce95dbbaed6cc57ddb85b04981970.jpg

Pen looks more or less perfect from the outside besides a little pinprick dent to the side of the clip but on the inside... so many problems. Besides the crack, the inner piece of the blindcap fell out after I unscrewed it (these pens are a rolled-gold overlay over the world's crappiest plastic, not solid metal) and I had to shellac it back in place.

I did get it working with a very questionable fix, but I am assuming my fix will not hold up for very long.

Today I went to an estate sale company's in store sale, and came home with 3 pens (t was 1st Tier Brand day, apparently).

1) Aqua (Pastel Blue?) Snorkel Valiant, with what I think is an fine or extra fine nib.  Needs rehabbed of course, but for $10 US plus sales tax?  Sure!  That means I can afford the repairs.

2) unknown model stainless steel Waterman c/c pen, with what also appears to be an F nib.  It has what seems to be a twist converter, but looks sort of like a cheap slide filter (and also not with a clear window in it).  But again, under $11 with tax.

3) Parker 45 Flighter (B nib).  This was a little pricy for a 45, IMO, but the store owner came down a little, and the nib won me over.  It's a UK production pen, and I'm not sure but what the nib -- while marked on the collar as being B -- kinda looks like a stub B).  And has the old style converter already installed in it as well.

Ironically, there were actually TWO blue Snorkel Valiants at the sale.  But the other one was marked as being $40 even though the pens looked identical (with the possible exception of the nib, and that the expensive-ish one *might* have had a snorkel tube with the slanted end).  Asked the store owner, and was told that their "consultant" priced the two pens.

But it was a nice haul, after standing in line for 2-1/2 hours to get in (I read the start time wrong, and also wanted to get there early to look at the pens -- and to find parking because there was a 5K race starting right in front of the building at 8 AM....

I'll attempt to get a photo taken of the Waterman to try and ID what model it is at some point.

Wait, what?  Maybe you should become a house flipper. ;) You seem to have the find the actual bargain gene encoded.

Just stop by my table in the foyer.   I won't be doing repair work onsite, but I can always do the work from home and send it back.   I will also have a few Sheaffer (both snorkel and TD) for sale.

Ehhhh, no.

Pens are inexpensive compared to houses....  At least the ones I'm willing to pay for....

Oh I absolutely mean the pens....

I don't have the budget for a pen that cost more than my first car -- let ALONE what our current house cost us....

Well, this was an impulse buy born of curiosity, a Geha cartridge pen. I want to find out if suggested alternatives to the rare Geha cartridges actually work, or if eye dropper conversion is possible. I have a line on cartridges if it all goes South.

On impulse I bought the original Kaweco Sport, although not the 30s model, this dates from the 50s. It is a piston filler and not in hard rubber. Boy is it pretty and smaller than the modern Sports.

@MarcoA63those are fantastic Kaweco pens.

I wouldn’t say I impulse ordered a Kaweco Sport pen, that was planned, but some of my Cult Pens order was impulsive to make the coupon work vs paying shipping of $20.

This thread has some information about one workaround for GeHa cartridge pens.
https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/323812-geha-schulfuller-cart-size/

I remember seeing a thread several years ago (FP GEEKS) where someone had success using a Pilot Con 20 convertor successfully on a GeHa Steno cartridge pen from the 1970s.  I’m not sure it has any application for your pen, but I thought it worth passing the information along.  I’ve followed BoBo Olson’ s advice to avoid GeHa pens without a piston because of the lack of available cartridges, so I have no personal experience with the work arounds.  Good luck!

A Platinum Plaisir ‘Black Mist’, a Kuretake brush pen, a HongDian N8 in red (the one with the maple leaf motif), and two more HongDian 6016 with silver-coloured furniture.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Oh, I haven’t visited the Geek forum in a long time, I should check in and look at that. I did find a source for Geha cartridges should I need them. I have a Pilot squeeze converter, but I don’t know if it’s a B or 20.  My Geha piston filler is such a good pen, and I’m excited to experiment with the new one.
