Today I plunged for a pen, but not very deep, for several reasons, but the strongest reason was that it was going un-bid on and it seemed very cheap, so I bid on it and won it at the starting price.

The pen is an ST Dupont Fidelio, a model which is one of the few exceptions to my rule against lacquered metal pens, because of the fit and finish, and the excellent balance. I have only one so far, this one makes two, and I suspect there will be more. This one has a gold plated barrel and cap, which is a bit gaudy for my taste but I'm willing to give it a chance; and it has a Medium nib, while I prefer Fine, but if I like the pen well enough otherwise I can have the nib ground at the pen show this summer into something more fun, like a cursive Italic or something. .

Perfect combo.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You are such an 'enabler'.... 🙂  At that price it would be rude not to..  Now...all I need to do is get my handwriting to look like yours  🤣

Don't we all wish we had penmanship like @Stompie.

Number 3....one more to go.  The nib on this one is a custom nib from John Mottishaw, according to the seller.

A Gioia Alleria, even though I've never even seen one in real life, because I've been curious about them ever since I first saw the name (who wouldn't love a pen named Joy?) and now Fontoplumo had them on sale last week. I also opted for a cursive italic grind from their nibmeister, which I have also never done before, just because @dms525 has mentioned them on here several times. So I now have a pen I don't know with a specialty grind from a nibmeister I don't know coming soon (hopefully). Love to live dangerously here! :lticaptd:

Frank's nib technician calls himself a "nib whisperer." The CI grinds he has done for me are very close to a formal italic in that they have amazing thick/thin line differentiation. They write very smoothly for me.

Let us know what you think of the pen and of the nib!

Happy writing!

David

This is the first reference I’ve seen to mapping nibs. Can you tell more about them?  Your handwriting is gorgeous.

Thank you!

Gillott and Leonardt do Mapping and Drawing nibs. They are little tubes with very sharp points that snag the paper at the slightest chance. They require a very light hand to write with, or draw with but they give a hairline second to none!  They are also, most of them, very flexible

and make for some interesting writing.

Scribblers have this picture of one of them but you can not really see what a tube they are.

I'm curious about this one, I've been put off by that giant step to the section, especially since I usually hold pens fairly far back from the nib. Has it caused you any problems?

This is an extremely enviable talent that you have!

While my own recent acquisitions have also been in the £15-£25 range (plus one gratefully-received gift 😊), the pens that I find myself (still) hankerin’ after at the moment tend to go for ~£150, ~£500, ~£600, and ~£1000 😲🥺

No, I do have an Onoto Heritage with Henry Simpole overlay but this is a brand from India.

Sorry to get your hopes up.

I do 'hanker' after expensive pens, but my 'luxury' pens are limited to a Lamy 2000,  my Edison Collier, Platinum 3776, Pilot Custom 74 my Parker 75 and a Faber Castell Basic Carbon Fibre with a lovely EF nib

Strangely, the pens I have inked and are used most are pens costing less than £20 Parker 25,  45,  various Chinese pens and lately Plumix pens.

Just for the record I have never 'binned' any pen...

As you may have seen I have recently purchased a new nib for my Chinese Dolce-Vita Narjanja...which was probably valued at less than £10 in full working order.

Probably too much G&T..... 😐

The Magna carta?  It's a blue and orange. I think it might be called persimmon.
