I'm a grandfather.  Perhaps I should chime in before it's too late.

I knew it was only a matter of time.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

This habit is still a lot cheaper than others.

So true. One of my pen friends collects Porsches as well, and my husband’s hobbies are collecting guitars and other instruments. I could get SO MUCH in this hobby for what he pays for one instrument.

Oh, my last impulsive purchase got here, I ‘ll post my Geha pictures on the “I got this pen today” thread when I can.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

My friend send to me vintage (early 1950th, I think) Aurora 88, and I am very pleasantly surprised — it’s lovely pen! Comfortable, nice springy nib, piston filler, ebonite section, ink window. I am happy.

On photo below: compare with modern “small 88” (gold cap)

Serial number starts from “E” — as far as I know, it means that pen was made for Spain market.

Nib 14k, about modern “F”, ebonite feed, good ink flow

Don't forget to show it to us!

Now that the honeymoon period is over, I can 😅 here's a terrible picture:

F94-EDDD8-CFA3-40-E3-B736-BAF1-C8-F86-E5

A few things to note: the "flange" (? How is this called?) doesn't have the same thickness all around, and that tickles my OCD, even if that's hardly noticeable

779-B8-A11-F68-A-4-B97-BF56-4214-AB004-A

also the ink flow is inconsistent, it starts nice and wet and across half a A5 page gets increasingly starved in ink. Waiting a few seconds makes things better, and so on. I only tried Pilot blue and Pilot Iroshizuku Ajisai so far, I probably need to experiment more.

I love those old 88s. Mine is just like yours except not for the Spanish market, and my ink window is pretty thoroughly ambered. I also have a somewhat later 88P with a snazzy bevel instead of the usual dome at the cap end. I frankly like these much better than my modern 88 (a Black Mamba).

My most recent, fairly impulsive pen acquisition was a Pelikan P1, which was a model I was not familiar with (it is on its way here, still crossing the Atlantic apparently). Another in my series of "pen models that copied and improved on the Parker 51." Another one in this group that I am looking for is an early Lamy 27.

Visconti Voyager 30 LE #150/300 in beautiful ebonite. Another thread on FPN sent me on this impulse buy and I couldn't be happier!

I saw the post for Speerbob this week. I was looking at his offerings. And impulse won out.  I did check to see which nib I would get by dipping in ink, and writing with a Levenger Truewriter F and M. Medium won, and then I ordered a Levenger Truewriter in Pinkly Pink. I’ve seen it before, with no interest in it.

I’m thinking I’ll put Yama-Budo in it when it arrives. Or maybe Pelikan Edelstein Star Ruby.

There are more of them in stock, hint hint 😜

Lamy 27 with EEF nib. First impression: dare I say that I think I will prefer this to my Parker 51s?

I am not sure which specific Lamy 27 model - I've asked in this thread:

EDIT: It's more likely a 99 model, not a 27, but they seem to be pretty much the same. See the thread linked above if you are interested.

A Waverley Cameron eyedropper just popped up on my eBay feed. Suffice it to say that my no-buying intentions have gone by the wayside.

Well, I had decided I should stop ordering impulsively. I made a mistake in not researching prices, and overpaid on a pen. The website I got it on uses a countdown timer on sale prices. However, they had the same price counting down when I looked again. That site showed the Kaco Retro pen. I used to want one. This time I searched around, and got the red one for under $10.

It’s not *my* impulsive purchase, but my husband’s for me- a Kaweco Kalligrafie twin nibbed Sport. It was in my browsing history.
