What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I (almost) never make impulsive acquisitions, especially of pens. The closest I get is when I sign up for a PIF, for example the recently acquired flex nib Indigo Blue acrylic Himalaya, which my wife promptly fell in love with, and thus came to own. So I showed her the fprevolutionusa.com site, and she promptly bought nine pens, two of which have since become mine (Himalayas in brown ebonite with flex, and emerald green acrylic with a 1.0m stub). So I suppose they were acquired impulsively, and they're now mine. Does that count?

Wow, 9 pens, no holding back on that case.

The last impulsive buy for me was the PenBBS 308 in Galaxy since I missed it on the PenBBS 309 release,

I always have lusted for a Galaxy finish and finally it was satiated.

... placed an order for a Pelikan M605 White Transparent from FPNibs, ...

Alas, that is not to be. I had tremendous trouble over the weekend in getting their credit payment processing system to accept my card, and was on the verge of abandoning the purchase so many times. Now that it finally worked, and Pablo has started working on the nib for me, he discovered that the last unit of the pen he had on hand has a crack in it, and his supplier has no more stock with which to replace it. I guess that 'White Ghost' is simply not mine to have!

Bought two Lamy Studio's today , terracotta and imperial blue.

It was difficult to pick a color, I also loved the matte black one and the brushed steel one. An F was a bit to scratchy for my tastes, so went with M-nibs for both pens.

Love how they write , while Safari's have the same nib, it does write a bit better with the Studio's.

An Aurora 88P somehow found its way into my shopping cart on Ebay.

How this happened is a complete mystery to me.

Hi IS,

Yes, they do... and its not your imagination... it's a little known fact,... but the nibs on the Studio's are tested/tuned by hand, not robot tested like the lower-echelon Lamy pens are.

Be well Sophie... and enjoy life... and your two new Studio's.

Hi Pentode,

Auroras are always finding their way into my pockets... I've decided to be calm, cool and nonchalant about the whole thing.

How this happened is a complete mystery to me.

Its one of the mysteries of the ages... why try to solve it... let the mystique live on... what is life without it?

Be well. :)

Well, just lately I ended up with a green enamel Townsend from ebay. I mean, it was $49... I basically had no choice!

And then today I found a 14K NOS fine Townsend nib for ~$50. Since the green pen came with an M (because it seems like 90% of ebay Townsends have M or B nibs), and I thought it was just a serendipitous opportunity.

I'm not at all sure what else I was expected to do in either situation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My latest impulse buy was a Pelikan Go after seeing it talked about here. Seemed like a nice cheep piston filler. I did look at reviews first. But I wondered if I should have done it later. Still waiting for it to show up from Germany.

I like to think I don't make impulse buys, but research and think things though first. Looking at my pen collection I have done a number of them. Visconti Ragtime, Wing Sung 626, Moonman Wancai, two PenBBSS 471's, and now the Pelikan Go.

The Wing Sung 626 I don't much care for. The nib is not the best and I don't like how the converter fits or the cap threads work. Nothing wrong with the Wancai or 471's but I also don't see using such small pocket pens. The Ragtime is good but works best as an eyedropper filled pen and I don't really care for doing that.

Actually I bought a Pelikan m120 Iconic Blue pen as an impulse buy and it reminded me how much I liked my m200's. I am very happy I bought it. But it also helped push me to buy the m205 clear demonstrator and a m101n. So in a way it was a costly impulse.

I felt a need to buy a pen made in England and ended up with a Parker Victory MK IV which then caused me to buy a MK V, a Parker 61, and now on order a Parker Senior Duofold Aerometric. So that was a costly re-entry into vintage pens!

That is just what happens when you get bored with current offerings.

What lovely nibs those Parker Victories have. Is the Duofold also an English one?

Yes the Duofold also is a Newhaven England model. Those really are nice nibs. The Victory V has a OM nib this is a wonderful semi-flex. It's 0.3mm in the thin direction and in the main direction is 0.5 that flexes out to 0.9mm easily. I like the M on the Victory MK IV better but it's not as soft. Both are really nice writers.

My first Namisu Nova purchase seriously curtailed my pen purchasing. My experience of it and it's Ti EF nib was so positive that it seemed to turn the running tap of purchases into a very slow drip drip drip.

How could I resist then when Namisu were having a SALE on their old prototype models.

I'm chuffed to bits I bought another. The Bock EF nib is an utter joy to use.

I entered the shop looking for nothing in particular, then I saw the Dark Lilac Safari (M) at the normal retail price, 18 euro. Token (I already have one, but I like it very much and they are getting hard to find). Then I saw the sale corner with a Lamy cp1 pt (gold nib, F) together with a leather pen case, also by Lamy, for 100 euro all together. No need to ask, I did it.

Well if THAT pen doesn't, nothing will. Arco Brown material is amazing...

Not a pen, but a case to keep them in. I'd been keeping mine tucked away inside leather pouches in a shoebox in our storage room. I went to Scriptus to test drive a HomoSapiens and planned to leave without swiping my credit card. On the way out I saw this guy on for $40. The seller said it was mine for $30 even. Sold!

I wouldn't call this a full impulsive purchase because I was looking to buy something just didn't know what. I came across a Platinum 3776 Ascending Dragon for a good price and bought it. It's was delivered today and I'm waiting to get off work to go home and try it out.
